Allen was hidden in the treetop as he eavesdropped, and when he had heard Emily’s words, he knew he was right. The one who had poisoned her was the innocent-looking girl before him, and betrayal was something Allen hated. It was an evil that was in everyone’s lives.

But during an alliance Death Ring, it was unusual for allies to plot for each other’s death this early. But ultimately, Allen wasn’t too surprised, in these kinds of life and death situations, it was a true test of human nature. Right now, Allen was determined to kill this girl, but that was if she could escape from these two boys.

“Lucy was poisoned?” Latife laughed out loud, “Emily, if you’re going to lie, at least come up with something believable. When would you even find an opportunity to poison her before the Death Ring? And now that it’s started, you haven’t even met with her. Do you think it’s a believable lie?”

Emily was unbothered, “You were wrong, Lucy was poisoned before the game started.”

“Impossible!” Latife was stubborn, “No matter how close you were, there wouldn’t have been an opportunity!”

“Of course, Lucy isn’t an idiot, she wouldn’t have given me a chance. But if it was a problem with someone she trusts? For example, her instructor Aisha?” She spoke softly.

“That’s even more unbelievable.” Cannon pointed at himself, “Emily, are you challenging our intelligence? If the committee finds out that Aisha had poisoned Lucy, the consequences would be unimaginable. I can’t imagine what kind of offer you could’ve made to convince Aisha.”

“I’m not done speaking. It’s true that Aisha poisoned her, but what if she didn’t know it was poison? Ultimately, Aisha is just a tool, a medium.” She spoke calmly, “My instructor, Mr Hanni, is her lover. I had him change Lucy’s strengthening medicine into another drug when he met with Aisha.”

“Oh, so mister Hanni is following your orders now?” Latife mocked.

“Of course, it’s not that simple, mr. Hanni just enjoys it when I beg under him. I’ve made him happy, and along with some other benefits, he’s quite willing to help me with this.”

Canon and Latife turned to each other, like Allen who was hidden in the trees, they didn’t expect the entire situation to be this complicated. And now they knew, Emily was an opportunist.

“Alright, Emily, we believe you.” Latife spun his javelin, “But don’t you think that it’s more beneficial for us if we used this opportunity to eliminate you and Lucy?”

“No, that’ll be too boring for the two of you.” She placed her hand out, opening her palm to reveal a little golden square box, “This is the antidote for Lucy, you can threaten her with it. If she wants to live, she’ll have to comply with all of your demands. Any!”

Emily emphasised again, “As long as you let me go, this is yours.”

Both of the boys visibly swallowed. Compared to killing Lucy, it would obviously be a better choice to have her complying to their every demand. Especially as they thought of her thin, long legs, their breathing became heavier.

“Deal, leave the thing and go as far as you can. You should pray, Emily, that we’ll never meet you again.” After glancing at each other, the boys quickly made their choice. Latife took a step forward and continued, “Also, leave her location.”

“I don’t have her exact location, but as long as you head in this direction, you’ll definitely find her.” She pointed toward the west before placing the box onto the ground before her. Taking a step back, followed by ten more, she quickly started running.

But as her figure ran, there was a sudden shout from behind her. With a shriek, she threw out the dagger she had been hiding.

A clang sound quickly followed, the dagger had hit something. Turning her head for a moment, she saw Latife’s javelin. While she managed to deflect the attack, her balance was still affected and she fell onto the ground.

She was cautious, but she was too weak in terms of strength. With just a fall, her calf was now bloodied as the sound of a gunshot rang through the forest.

The sound was from Canon’s revolver, the barrel was unusually large compared to normal revolvers, and its bullet tore a bloody hole on her leg, breaking her bone!

“You liars!” Her face was as white as snow as her breathing quickened.

Latife walked over as he slowly pulled his javelin from the ground in the meantime, and as he stood before her, he used the weapon in his hands to hold her chin, “What are promises? Is that edible?”

Emily laughed as well, “I knew you mutts wouldn’t keep your promise, I’ll tell you now, the antidote is fake too!”

His expression changed instantly as he slapped Emily on the face, “Bitch, hand over the antidote.”

“You think I’m an idiot? If I hand it over, I’ll just be killed.” She laughed gleefully.

Mocked by her attitude, he stabbed his javelin into her right palm, nailing her to the ground. Reaching to grope her body, he spoke, “Don’t be too happy yet, do you think I wouldn’t be able to find it?”

“And do you think I’d keep it on me? Dumbass!” She spat her bloody saliva at him.

And as she expected, Latife searched every inch of her body, leaving no stones unturned. But he couldn’t find a single suspicious item on her, and as they stared at her smug face, Canon raised his gun towards her head. Pushing the gun down, Latife spoke coldly, “Emily, you shouldn’t have angered us. Dying is too easy for you, I’ll make you regret your decision.”

And as he finished, he broke the tendons in her limbs with his javelin. Her eyes widened, “What are you doing?”

“I’ll leave you here, Emily.” He patted her face gently, “Don’t thank me too much for my generosity, I won’t kill you. But you won’t be able to do much either, other than wait for your death, or maybe a Danger would come along and eat you.”

“No, you can’t do that!” She started screaming, death was a blessing compared to this hell.

But neither of the boys cared, packing up their belongings, they left towards the direction Emily had pointed. And after they left, Allen jumped from the tree and walked towards Emily.

Seeing the boy appear next to her, Emily was shocked for a second, “You heard everything?”

He nodded.

“Save me, I’ll give you the real antidote. I’ve hid it in a tree nearby, bring me there and I’ll give it to you.” She begged, Allen as her only hope.

Allen kneeled before her, “Tell me where it is, I’ll go there myself.”

He stared straight into her eyes, and he watched as her expression changed yet again, and this time, it was a bitter smile, “Alright, it was a lie.”

Allen nodded and stood up to leave. Seeing this, Emily started screaming again, “Wait, don’t you want to kill me?”

“I do, but I think their ideas is better.” He replied truthfully.

“No, no no! I don’t want to die like this. Allen, you want to save Lucy, right? I’ll give you the antidote, please, kill me!” She screamed in desperation, she knew Allen wouldn’t let her go, and her only choice was death.

“Do you think I’m dumb?” He furrowed his brows.

“It’s true! The antidote is in my dagger, the handle can be turned!” She screamed.

His eyes shifted, landing on the dagger next to the girl.

Walking over, he inspected the dagger. And it was true, the handle could be moved, and it was hollow inside. A vial filled with blue liquid slipped from the hole, and the clear surface reflected the girl’s face. Emily rushed to speak, “See, I didn’t lie. Please, give me a quick death.”

Keeping the antidote, he squatted before Emily again as he held her neck, “You shouldn’t have done it.” He shook his head.

The corners of her lips rose slightly, “You wouldn’t understand, Allen. I hope you survive, and then you’ll realise that dying in the beginning is an okay end.”

And as she finished her sentence, Allen snapped her neck, freezing the smile on her face. Maybe she was right. In this cruel war zone, death might be a blessing.

But only the living had hope.

Allen wasn’t ready to let go of his hope, he didn’t plan on just living, he was going to be victorious. As for how he was planning to resolve the situation with himself and Lucy, he wasn’t thinking about it. Lucy was the one true friend he liked, she was a girl that showed him the sun. If he could, he wanted to treasure this brilliance. But at the same time, he wouldn’t forget the bloodstained memories he had.

Bai fang’s eyes and his mother’s finger constantly reminded him of his responsibilities. And if he was forced to make a decision, he wouldn’t know how to choose.

But luckily, it wasn’t time to choose now. Allen was slightly grateful for Latife and Canon, they were his current distractions. The two were obviously in his elimination list, and the list was still very long. At least before Lucy, he had plenty of other things to worry about.

But he couldn’t deny the fact that he couldn’t think of a way to take Lucy’s name off the list.

It was an irresolvable situation.
