“Have you considered that I could take advantage of your current situation? Killing the third place would give me plenty of benefits.” Allen suddenly spoke.
Lucy paused for a moment before revealing a smile, “I haven’t.”
“That’s it, you’ve decided to come here as well. You instinctively trust me, so, I won’t give up on you!” Allen turned back as light shone onto his face. Despite the dirt and grime on it, his face didn’t seem savage in the slightest, but trustworthy instead.
With a toothy grin, Allen left with his hand waving in the air. He jumped up the mountain, disappearing from her sight.
Lucy seemed to be frozen before a red tint appeared on her pale face. A silly smile appeared on her face, “I won’t give up on you? Hey, that sounds nice.”
“Alright, then I’ll be good and hide too, I’ll stay alive at least.” Lucy started to get up, using the trees around her as support.
With the slow-acting effects of the poison as well as her Origin suppressing it, she was still able to move around, albeit a bit lethargic.
But just as she walked a few steps, a gust of wind appeared at her side. A cold glint of light appeared in the girl’s eyes as she raised her gun almost instantly, aiming it at the figure behind her.
“Your majesty, it’s me!” A large hand grabbed onto the gun’s barrel, belonging to a white haired old man.
His body was built like steel, even gleaming with a metallic sheen in the sunlight. The old man was wearing black clothes and a brown leathery armor, as well as two dual-handed broadswords on his back. On the blades of each broadsword each had a carved design of a wing facing outwards.
“Teacher?” An awkward expression appeared on Lucy’s face as she hesitated, “How did you find me?”
“Your majesty, you’ve been too wilful. How could you enter the Death Ring and bribe the council into giving you a spot? Your father would be furious if he found out.” The old man shook his head.
Lucy snorted, “He wouldn’t care.”
“Your majesty, you’re the love of his life.” The old man’s brows furrowed.
Her nose scrunched up, “He loves those women of his, not me.”
“But he gave Golden Rose to you.”
“That’s because I’m the only one that can use it.” She spoke stubbornly, but before she could finish her sentence, she was interrupted by her own violent coughing.
The old man’s eyes lit up, and as it got even brighter, flames seemed to spew from his eyes. His voice was shaky, “Your majesty, you were poisoned?”
But before she could reply, the man had already grabbed at her wrist, revealing her palm. A silver light poured out of his finger as it condensed into a needle, and he quickly pierced it into her palm. Instantly, a silver pattern lit from the center of her hand, spreading throughout her body in seconds.
“Thank the heavens, it’s not that strong.” The man sucked his Origin needle back as he reached for a box within his armor. Opening it, he took out a syringe filled with a blue liquid. Pulling her arm out, he injected it into her.
In seconds, the pale complexion on Lucy’s face disappeared as it was replaced with a rosy tint.
“Alright, it’ll take about an hour for the rest of the poison in your body to disappear. But you must tell me, which imbecile was it that dared to poison you!” The old man’s voice was filled with killing intent.
She shrugged, “I wonder, I don’t know who did it either.”
“If it’s like that, please follow me, your majesty.” The old man furrowed his brows, “My duty as your subordinate is to ensure of your safety, and I can no longer allow your majesty’s wilfulness.”
“Alright, alright.” She batted her eyelids as she shook the old man’s hand, “Teacher, I promise to go back with you. But, you need to give me a bit more time.”
“Your majesty!” The old man’s voice became shrill as his eyes widened, unable to contain his anger.
“I can’t leave now anyways.” She placed her hands on her waist.
The old man could feel a headache coming, “Why?”
“Because I promised someone that I’d wait for him to come back.”
“That kid?” The old man shook his head, “Your majesty, that’s just a land child, they’re not worth any risk on your life.”
“Marquis Metalon, I’ve already decided on this!” Her tone was irrefutable, “Anyways, I’ll return with you after the Death Ring ends.”
The old man’s expression froze, Lucy had used his title rather than ‘teacher’, she was exercising her authority. He could only smile bitterly as he replied, “Alright, if your majesty had decided already, I can only protect you.”
He then continued, “Your majesty, this is the first time you’ve directly called me by my name. Is that kid really that important to you?”
Lucy apologised, “I’m sorry, teacher. It’s just that, he’s a friend of mine. And he’s someone worthy of my expectations.”
“Your expectations.” Melaton spoke, “Then alright, your majesty. I shall keep my eyes peeled to see how this kid earned your expectations.”
Allen suddenly felt a chill.
He lowered his body, hiding behind a shrub as he surveyed his surroundings. Just now, he had a feeling that was similar to being preyed on, and his hairs on his neck stood almost instantly. But the surrounding forests were extremely quiet, except for the occasional gust of wind and falling leaves.
Was it a mistake? He thought as he shook his head and got up.
He was currently heading to the forest in the northwest.
Both south and east pointed towards a flat plains, there was no cover in sight. If someone was planning on taking advantage of Lucy, they wouldn’t choose to hide in such an obvious location. Therefore, the sea of trees in the north and the west would be the best option. They wouldn’t be far either, according to the estimated time when the poison activated, the perpetrator would be within 30km.
Once they were past that distance, it would be difficult for them to find Lucy’s hiding spot within fifteen hours. In reality, this distance might be even smaller. As such, the difficulty of Allen’s task was lowered even more.
Hiding the long knife into the shrub, he climbed onto the tallest arbor tree near him. And as he peeked out of the treetop, he could see a sea of trees around him.
The forest seemed relatively calm, but just as Allen started to climb back down, a flock of birds suddenly flew into the skies about a thousand meters away in the northwest direction.
Allen quickly slid down the tree and retrieved his long knife before heading that way.
There was definitely human activity there that scares the birds away. Even if it wasn’t the poison user, if someone was really that close by, he still had to eliminate them.
That distance would only take Allen five minutes to close, and as he reached his destination, he suddenly heard a girl’s voice.
He immediately stopped in his tracks and decided to climb up a tree, hiding within its leaves. And just as he got into position, he saw as a girl ran his way as a javelin chased after her, piercing onto the ground next to her. She stopped, but before she could react, another three were thrown at her feet, blocking off her escape route.
The girl under the tree was Emily.
Her back was faced towards Allen, hiding the girl’s expression. But from her rough breathing, he could tell that she was nervous. Not too far away, two boys appeared from behind a tree.
A light brown haired boy with freckles led the way, and in his hands were another javelin, he was the one that had trapped Emily.
The other was a tall black boy with a head of short golden hair, he had a ring on his lips, and he stared at Emily with cruel interest.
Their particulars flashed in Allen’s mind. The one with the javelins were Lafite and the black boy was Canon.
Their strength was about average, and in Allen’s eyes, he could see a misty light from their bodies. Within their bodies, he could locate four dots of light.
Allen now knew that not everyone’s Origin could be seen. For example, he could only see Hughton’s Origin when he was using his own, unlike lieutenant Ron and the others. Normally, the light’s brightness was also an indicator of its strength, and with Latife’s four Origin vortexes, it was neither bright nor clear.
Of course, Allen wasn’t any better than them.
But two level four Origin users was something Allen could still take on. After all, Qiao and Hera weren’t weaker than these two. Hiding himself into the leaves, he observed the situation.
“Alright, Emily, you can’t escape. Let me guess, you’re planning to meet Lucy for her protection?” Cannon spoke with a nasty tone.
Latife was spinning his javelin as he spoke coldly, “Tell is where Lucy is, or are you only willing to speak after some torture? I believe it wouldn’t be a fun choice.”
“You’re planning on taking her on?” She tried to speak with a voice that would gain their sympathy, but Allen could see the hands behind her reaching for a dagger hidden in her sleeves.
Of course, Latife and Cannon couldn’t see this. Allen kept his eyes on the dagger as his wariness towards Emily grew.
“I can tell you where she is, and I can even guarantee that you’d be able to kill her easily.” She spoke weakly, “She can’t even take care of herself right now, if you were to come in, she wouldn’t be able to resist.”
“Oh, is that so?” Latife furrowed his brows, “She’s one of the top rankers, I don’t think she’d be easy.”
“No matter how strong a person is, if they’re poisoned, there would be nothing to worry about.” Her words were shocking.
