Not far from the group of British students, a couple sat on a sofa. The two had been dining at a nearby restaurant, but after waking up from a nightmare, they found themselves in another nightmare.
However, for them, the happiest thing was that their partner had also survived unscathed. Faced with the ravenous zombies, the two ran for their lives. When they saw Wonderland, it was like seeing a glimmer of hope.
Wonderland, a paradise, what a beautiful name!
However, in less than a day, everyone discovered something was wrong...
They were imprisoned!
Although those people still provided just enough food and water, they had locked the door!
Not knowing what awaited them tomorrow, the eighteen people became restless and uneasy at the thought.
"I'll go ask them what they want and how long they plan to keep us locked up!" A young Chinese man finally couldn't hold back and wanted to get up to confront the people outside.
A woman in her thirties beside him grabbed him, signaling him to sit quietly.
"Those who stick their heads out get shot. Why are you in such a hurry? We Chinese believe in the middle way. Don't worry, there will always be a way out when you reach the mountain." The woman whispered to the young man.
"Sister Lily, if we wait any longer, we might die at the hands of these people instead of the zombies! I don't think any of them are good!" The young man, though sitting down, couldn't help but say.
"Wang Can, you're a big guy, yet you can't be as calm as a little girl." The woman called Sister Lily glanced at the very calm little girl beside her and smiled at the young man.
"I was just delivering food, and I ended up in this mess. What bad luck!" Wang Can sighed, a bit resentful of his misfortune.
"Compared to those who died, you're lucky." The little girl beside Sister Lily glanced at him and said.
Wang Can was speechless, and seeing that the others weren't speaking, he wisely shut up.
Sister Lily didn't say anything either, but she sighed inwardly.
She was already a female host at CCTV, and after ten years of hard work, she had established her place at the station.
Later, as she got older, she married a wealthy man. Lily, who was used to being busy, found it hard to adapt to her new life in a wealthy family.
Her mother-in-law didn't want her to appear on TV anymore, but Lily couldn't stay idle. Taking advantage of the fact that they hadn't planned to have children yet, she found a reason to study abroad and enrolled in a master's program in media at UEA.
UEA's School of Media is one of the top-ranked in the UK and is highly authoritative worldwide. She never expected that the world would change so much just because she came to the UK to study.
Would she ever see her husband, who was rich but had no feelings for her, again in her lifetime?
Although she had long seen through the ill intentions of the people outside, what could she, a weak woman, do?
At this moment, wouldn't it be nice if a black knight appeared to save everyone?
Lily laughed at herself for being too naive, closed her eyes, and stopped thinking about it.
Just as Lily had successfully calmed the young people, the British people couldn't sit still. The two British men walked to the door and pounded on it hard.
Lily opened her eyes and gave a signal to the people around her, indicating they shouldn't act rashly.
Lily wasn't so kind as to try to calm down these foreigners. Different cultural backgrounds and living environments, what was the point of talking about the middle way with these foreigners?
Nonsense.
Lily actually hoped someone would step forward to check the situation outside. The five British girls and the couple also couldn't sit still, getting up to join the two men and pound on the door.
"Let us out! This is illegal detention! You'll go to jail for this!" One of the girls shouted while pounding on the door.
"I'm from the law school, and I can tell you responsibly that you'll serve more than five years!" The girl added, fearing they wouldn't believe her.
Lily smiled at the girl's words, finding her naive and innocent.
The Japanese man also stood up, though he didn't join in, he watched from the side.
The Chinese students, on the other hand, remained seated at Lily's signal.
"Open the door! Is anyone there? Open the door!"
The people outside heard the shouting and walked over, cursing.
"Stop pounding, do you want to attract the zombies? I'll... tomorrow..." The man realized he had said too much and immediately shut up, tapping the door with a baseball bat.
Through the gap in the door, he could see everyone crowded at the entrance, shouting.
"Stop making noise, the zombies have very good hearing. If you attract them, we're all dead!" Charlie threatened.
"Dead so be it! Don't think we don't know what you're up to! Let us out!" The British boy leading the group wasn't afraid of Charlie's threats and spoke boldly.
"Shut up, all of you! I remember who's making the most noise! Wait until tomorrow, and I'll show you what I can do! I'll starve you for a day and see if you still have the energy to cause trouble!"
Seeing his threats didn't work, Charlie became furious and glared at the people inside.
"Stop shouting and go to sleep. We won't do anything to you. This is for your safety," Mike came to the door. Unlike his aggressive companion, he chose to calm the agitated people.
"Imprisoning us is for our safety? Let us out, we don't need your protection!" Another younger British boy spoke up.
"Mike, what's the point of talking to these idiots?" Charlie said to Mike, then glared through the door at the people inside.
"I'm telling you, keep causing trouble, and I'll kill all of you tomorrow! Enjoy your last night, idiots!"
With that, he turned and walked away.
His words chilled everyone in the hall. Although they had expected these people to have ill intentions, hearing it from their mouths made everyone shiver.
Finally, the young wife began to cry softly, hugging her husband. This was no Wonderland.
The other British people looked at Mike, as if he were their last hope.
Mike looked through the door at everyone, opened his mouth, but said nothing, and turned to leave.
He was afraid he might let the people out, and when Edward returned, he would be the one to die.
As Mike walked away, the previously agitated crowd deflated like a punctured balloon. The only sound in the hall was the young couple's crying.
"Truly, looking at people through a keyhole makes them seem small."
With that, Lily stood up from the ground.
