Chapter 56

"Understood." Liu Yiqing and Lu Jianwen’s faces flashed with disappointment and anger, then they retreated.

It was only natural for Liu Yiqing and Lu Jianwen to feel disappointed and angry. Bu Yun had already made them Hu Donghan’s alchemy apprentices, which meant that from now on, they would be considered Hu Donghan’s confidants. However, Hu Donghan now unceremoniously dismissed them and even planned to find a servant from Die Luan Peak to replace them. How could they possibly feel comfortable?

In other words, in Hu Donghan’s eyes, they were even less valuable than a servant?

However, although the two were very dissatisfied, they did not dare to show it. They respectfully retreated and, as Hu Donghan had said, stayed far away. Of course, as soon as they left the medicinal field, they immediately informed the Earth Fire Hall of what had happened here and what Hu Donghan had said. As for what would happen next, they had no idea.

After Liu Yiqing and Lu Jianwen left, Hu Donghan first released the Medicine Spirit Ghost, then had it place the Spirit Grass in the center of the medicinal field where he had just planted the Lu Jie Grass seeds. He let the medicinal fragrance and yin energy spread out to cultivate the Lu Jie Grass. After that, Hu Donghan returned to the wooden house and began to read the contents of the jade slip.

"The Earth Fire Hall is, after all, an important department within the Yin Soul Sect. Although I have joined the Earth Fire Hall, there must still be an observation period! I estimate that in the next few days, someone will secretly observe me every day... So, if the Medicine Spirit Ghost’s cultivation of spirit medicines is seen by others, it will instead make those people more at ease."

"Grandmaster Steal Heaven basically figured out the Medicine Spirit Ghost’s ability to cultivate spirit medicines the moment he saw it. Now, there’s no longer much need to keep it a secret. Since it’s no longer a secret, it doesn’t matter if someone spies on it."

"Of course, even if someone spies on it, it should only be someone at the level of Grandmaster Steal Heaven or Elder Bu Yun. People like Liu Yiqing and Lu Jianwen have no right to know!"

"The biggest secret I have is the 'True Interpretation of Ghost Dao,' not this Medicine Spirit Ghost. Once a ghost recognizes its master, others can’t take it away. Given their perspective, they should understand that ensuring I can make the best use of the Medicine Spirit Ghost is key! For example, at this stage, it’s these Lu Jie Grass plants!"

"Also, since we’ve moved, the Medicine Spirit Ghost’s dining room needs to be re-established. When Niu Ergen comes tomorrow, I’ll have him create a basement underground."

"Once the basement is established, I’ll have the Medicine Spirit Ghost hide there to refine medicines. I don’t think anyone will spy on it. After all, what Grandmaster Steal Heaven and the others are more concerned about is the spirit medicines..."

While Hu Donghan was thinking, he absentmindedly checked the contents of the jade slip.

In fact, what happened was exactly as Hu Donghan had anticipated.

Although Grandmaster Steal Heaven and Elder Bu Yun were very concerned about this new recruit, Hu Donghan seemed to have suddenly appeared, which made them somewhat wary.

When Grandmaster Steal Heaven saw Hu Donghan’s Medicine Spirit Ghost, he immediately left, not for any other reason but to investigate Hu Donghan’s background.

For a Nascent Soul Ancestor to investigate Hu Donghan’s background was no small feat. This investigation revealed all of Hu Donghan’s information, even the details of his and Hu Meier’s childhood, which were now clear in Grandmaster Steal Heaven’s mind.

The reason for this thorough investigation was, of course, to prevent Hu Donghan from being a spy sent by an opposing sect.

However, the final investigation results were very satisfactory for Grandmaster Steal Heaven. In fact, it was proven that Hu Donghan had a clean background, with a sister who had grown up with him as a witness, making it impossible for him to be a spy. As for having the Medicine Spirit Ghost, it was simply a matter of luck.

Moreover, when Grandmaster Steal Heaven asked Grandmaster Soul Devourer, he learned that Hu Meier, who possessed a high-grade ghost spirit root, had been designated as the next head of the Enforcement Hall. This made Grandmaster Steal Heaven even more convinced that Hu Donghan was not an enemy of an opposing sect. Since he was not an enemy and had a relative who was likely to become a future pillar of the sect, the supervision of such a person could be relaxed. After all, as long as Hu Donghan wasn’t a fool, he would know that he absolutely could not betray the Yin Soul Sect.

The perspective of a Nascent Soul Ancestor was limited to the interests between sects. As for internal squabbles, they were too trivial to bother with. As long as he was sure that Hu Donghan would not undermine the sect’s interests and would instead be beneficial, there was no need for further supervision.

Of course, even a Nascent Soul Ancestor had a bit of curiosity.

Grandmaster Steal Heaven had yet to see how the "Medicine Fragrance Ghost" cultivated spirit medicines.

So, as soon as Hu Donghan released the Medicine Spirit Ghost, Grandmaster Steal Heaven immediately brought all the alchemists from the entire third underground level to gather and watch over the medicinal field.

When they saw the Spirit Grass begin to emit medicinal yin energy, a group of old men marveled together, exclaiming that they had never seen such a wondrous thing. After marveling for a while and watching for a bit, the group left together.

Of course, Hu Donghan, who was still absentmindedly reading the contents of the jade slip in the wooden house, had no idea that he had just been subjected to a cruel and inhumane spectacle. After a wave of drowsiness hit him, Hu Donghan fell asleep, lost in thought.

The next morning, as soon as Hu Donghan woke up, he saw the weakened Medicine Spirit Ghost. He casually threw some wandering souls for the Medicine Spirit Ghost to devour. Then, Hu Donghan walked out of the house and saw Niu Ergen standing at the door.

Seeing Niu Ergen, Hu Donghan smiled slightly and said, "You’re here?"

"Yes, Uncle Hu, I’m here," Niu Ergen replied simply, with a simple, honest smile on his face.

When Niu Ergen saw Hu Donghan wearing a set of Earth Fire Hall attire, he was utterly shocked! Just a day ago, he was still an Enforcement Hall disciple, and now he was an Earth Fire Hall disciple. This Uncle Hu was truly unfathomable!

What made Niu Ergen even happier was that Hu Donghan had actually brought him to the Earth Fire Hall.

Although he didn’t know why Hu Donghan had brought him, as soon as he arrived at the Earth Fire Hall, he immediately received a set of alchemy apprentice attire and an identity badge, and was told that he would be Hu Donghan’s alchemy apprentice. All the benefits of being an alchemy apprentice were also provided—within just two months, he had gone from a regular servant to an alchemy apprentice that even peak Qi Condensation cultivators envied. It made him feel like he was living in a dream!

Although Niu Ergen still didn’t understand why, he knew deep down that it was all thanks to Hu Donghan!

This honest man from a small village had already made up his mind to serve Hu Donghan well and repay his great kindness!
