Chapter 19

In the summer, Qi thought that ghosts were things that humans turned into after death. They killed because they carried grudges from their lifetime. If these grudges could be resolved, perhaps the danger could be averted, and the ghosts haunting this place could disappear.
Regardless of whether this method was feasible or not, he felt it was a way to solve the problem and was worth a try.
As for the three new staff members, he had no intention of managing them for the time being. However, the woman named Lengyue could be approached tentatively; he felt there was something more to her.
Although he had already made a plan, Qi did not rush into action. After all, it was only his first day here, and he needed time to familiarize himself with the place and the students.
"I hope that ghost doesn't cause trouble for me too soon."
Praying silently, Qi began to set up, placing the amulets he had obtained earlier from the temple in various corners of the duty room. After all, this would be his "base" for the coming period, and he needed to be well-prepared.
Meanwhile, with the three new staff members.
"This is really a great opportunity. Not only will I make money, but there's so much more..."
Han Xiyuan, with a lecherous look, took out a pinhole camera from his backpack and carefully placed it near the top of the door. The pinhole camera was an essential item for his trips. In fact, he used to make a living by secretly filming and selling these so-called "peeping devices" online. So, upon learning he would be working as a dorm supervisor at this all-girls college, he brought some with him.
He installed cameras in the showers on each floor, and the remaining ones were placed in some empty dorm rooms.
After finishing everything and coming out of the dorm, Han Xiyuan felt his heart was about to explode with excitement. His mind was filled with the images of those young and beautiful girls showering in front of him.
"Can't wait for the second day!"
Han Xiyuan couldn't wait to see the "beautiful scenes" he had secretly filmed.
...
Li Xiaoxiao sat on the bed in the duty room, talking on the phone with a friend. Whenever students passed by the window, they would curiously look inside. Each time, she would stiffly smile at them, getting to know the students she would be managing for the coming period.
"Hey, do you think this company is reliable? Why do I have no confidence at all?"
"What are you afraid of? I've already told you, the company is registered with the business administration. Besides, if there's really a problem, just give me a call, and I'll report it. Don't worry..."
After hanging up with her friend, Li Xiaoxiao sighed and got off the bed, a sense of unease rising in her heart. It felt like something bad was about to happen.
...
Lengyue carried a box that looked like takeout. As she climbed each floor, she would sprinkle some powder on the ground, continuing until she reached the top floor.
Perhaps because of the open windows, the wind on the top floor was noticeably stronger, making Lengyue frown uncomfortably.
"It seems that person wasn't lying. There must be a ghost here, but I wonder how powerful it is."
Murmuring to herself, she took out a light yellow talisman from the box, held it between her fingers, and shook it vigorously, drawing an arc in the air before pointing forward:
"Warning talisman, set!"
As Lengyue spoke, the talisman stuck firmly to the wall. After confirming it wouldn't fall, she turned and went downstairs.
The talisman she had just stuck to the wall served as an alarm. In other words, if there was really a ghost and it caused any disturbance, she would sense it.
Unless... the ghost was stronger than her.
Time flew by as the three of them prepared. Before they knew it, it was almost lights out.
Qi glanced at his phone; it was exactly 10:00 PM, half an hour before the school's designated lights-out time. He decided to go to the 7th floor again during this time.
In fact, he had already gone up around 8:00 PM, asking each dorm room about the suicide that had occurred on the top floor a few days ago.
However, to his surprise, not many students knew the details of the incident. They only knew that something had happened, but they didn't know how Wang Yiran had died.
The school's official explanation was that Wang Yiran had committed suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills due to excessive academic pressure.
Qi had asked around the entire floor but had hardly obtained any valuable clues. In the end, he had to pin all his hopes on the 703 dorm, where Wang Yiran's close friends lived.
But he was hesitant to go there again because he had accidentally seen one of the students earlier.
After all, meeting so soon would be awkward.
However, thinking that nothing was more important than his own life, Qi decided to go up and ask.
Since the students knew a male dorm supervisor had arrived, some of the girls locked their doors as if they were protecting themselves from wolves. The sight of girls running around the corridor in their underwear and panties had become a thing of the past.
However, there were some who didn't care and didn't lock their doors, like the 703 dorm, where Wang Yiran's close friends lived.
Qi had intended to knock on the door, but to his surprise, the door opened with a creak as soon as his fist touched it, revealing four pale figures.
The four female students were only wearing thin underwear and panties, sitting on the bed in pairs, drinking and smoking. The room was filled with a heavy smell of smoke.
Qi estimated that they had smoked at least two packs of cigarettes.
Almost as soon as the door opened, the four girls instinctively looked toward the door. Qi's face turned red with embarrassment, but this time it was unintentional.
What surprised him was that the four girls remained calm, except for the one he had seen earlier that morning.
"Ah—!"
That girl, after a few seconds of shock, screamed and ran to the bed, wrapping herself tightly in a blanket.
The other three girls remained calm, or perhaps they felt that being caught smoking and drinking in the dorm was more serious than being seen by the dorm supervisor.
"Cough, cough." After a brief awkward moment, Qi cleared his throat, trying to maintain a serious tone despite his flushed cheeks, and said calmly:
"Let me make it clear, I didn't intend to barge in. It was just an accident while knocking.
Of course, that's not the point. The point is, you're drinking in the dorm! And the smoke is so heavy, are you trying to burn down the school?"
At this point, Qi deliberately emphasized his words because the school's rules clearly stated that drinking in the dorm was strictly prohibited, and violators would be expelled.
"We... we're drinking beverages." Seeing that Qi didn't intend to let them off, one of the girls tried to argue.
"Do you think I'm an idiot? Can't tell the difference between beer and a beverage?" Qi felt he was being treated like a fool. He gestured for the girls to put on their clothes. While they did so, he closed the door and walked in.
"Let me tell you, just because you caught us drinking doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. We might get expelled, but you won't be off the hook either!
We'll ruin your life!"
The girl from the morning was terrified when she saw Qi walk in.
"There's no need to be so angry. I didn't say I would punish you or use this to threaten you. I just have a question. If you answer honestly, I'll pretend I didn't see you drinking and smoking.
After all, I did see something I shouldn't have earlier."
As he spoke, Qi glanced at the girl, his expression becoming more expressive.
The girl glared at him angrily and turned her head away. The other three girls, relieved that the threat of expulsion was lifted, quickly asked what Qi wanted to know.
Seeing their cooperation, Qi didn't waste any more time and got straight to the point:
"You must know Wang Yiran. I want to know what happened between you on the night before the incident."
At this point, Qi had a sudden idea and added:
"Actually, I'm a police officer. I'm here as a dorm supervisor to investigate Wang Yiran's case. We suspect it wasn't suicide but murder...!"
Qi used the "police officer" identity again, knowing that high school students wouldn't be too cautious and wouldn't demand to see his credentials.
Of course, his position as a male dorm supervisor was the best cover. Why else would the school let a young man manage a girls' dorm?
As expected, the girls' expressions relaxed when they learned he was a police officer.
"Are you really a police officer?"
"Do you think an ordinary man could become a dorm supervisor here?"
Seeing that this approach worked, Qi felt more confident and added a touch of authority to his tone:
"Alright, now answer my questions. Remember, don't leave out any details!"
