Chapter 51: "The 50th Floor"
6 min read1,504 words
In the underground city, a barren and desolate land stretched out.
This vast space was composed of rocks and gravel, everything tinged in a reddish-brown hue.
Sand swirled across the desolate ground.
The murky air spread throughout the space.
In this world, which at first glance seemed completely uninhabited and had never seen human presence, a battle was unfolding.
"Roar!"
"Roar!"
Accompanied by terrifying roars, a group of monsters, their heavy footsteps causing the ground to tremble, charged forward like a stampeding herd, kicking up clouds of sand and dust.
The monsters had two curved horns like those of goats, their necks bulging with ugly, horse-like faces. They were easily taller than an adult, their muscles bulging, and they wielded clubs that resembled fossilized bones, looking like savage wildmen.
These ferocious monsters were clearly powerful, far surpassing those found in the upper and middle floors of the dungeon. They were at least classified as level 3 and more, and their numbers were vast, like a barbaric tribe inhabiting the wilderness. Their charge was as formidable as an army of thousands, instilling fear.
Their target was the intruder who had suddenly entered this floor.
"Fire!"
The leader of the dwarf race, positioned at the rear, gave the command in the midst of this desolate wilderness.
At his order, the archers, who had already drawn their bows, released their arrows in unison, sending a rain of iron-tipped arrows through the air, which fell like a deluge upon the charging monsters.
"Thud!" "Thud!" "Thud!"
In the next moment, the arrows easily pierced the bodies of the monsters, some impaling their heads, others penetrating their chests, causing them to howl in pain and collapse, disintegrating into dust.
On the desolate ground, numerous magic stones appeared, but no one paid them any attention.
The monsters, regardless of their fallen comrades, some even with multiple arrows embedded in their bodies, continued to charge forward, snorting and glaring with bloodshot eyes, roaring in anger.
This fearless charge ultimately brought many of the monsters face-to-face with the adventurers of the Loki Family.
The dwarf leader remained calm, issuing commands.
"Frontline, raise your shields! Hold them back!"
"Midline, spread out! Find opportunities to support!"
"Rearline, mages, prepare your incantations!"
Fen's voice reached everyone, dispelling their tension and anxiety, and the adventurers of the Loki Family, with determined expressions, began to carry out their orders.
The dwarves and beastmen, wielding large shields, stepped forward without hesitation, forming a shield wall and charging headlong into the horde of ferocious monsters.
The midline, composed of humans, dwarves, and Amazons, tightened their faces and scattered.
The elves, with their exceptional beauty, gathered around the royal elf, and under her lead, began to chant their spells.
"Rifiea! Stay focused! Pay attention to your incantation!"
Lifiria, in a protected position, warned the elf girl beside her.
"Yes!"
Rifiea took a deep breath, gripped her staff, and began to chant the spell along with the royal elf and her fellow elves.
"Bang!" "Bang!" "Bang!" "Bang!" "Bang!"
At the same time, at the frontline, the monsters had already clashed with the adventurers of the Loki Family. They swung their heavy clubs, roaring and attacking, forcing the dwarves and beastmen, who held large shields, to retreat, their faces turning red with exertion.
"Get lost!"
Only Gries did not retreat. Instead, he charged forward like a small tank, sending all the monsters flying like balls, creating a scene that was both shocking and awe-inspiring.
The midline, responsible for support, also joined the fray.
"Haah!"
Dione, wielding a pair of curved blades, her black hair flowing, darted around like a brown lightning bolt. Each time she spun her slender arms, her blades cleanly sliced through a monster's chest, destroying its core (magic stone).
"Yah!"
Tiona, with a similar cry, charged at another group of monsters, wielding an exaggeratedly large double-bladed weapon. She spun it like a windmill, turning into a brutal meat grinder, cutting the monsters in half.
"Come on, monsters!"
The young werewolf Bert, his expression now ferocious, moved with incredible speed, faster than Dione and more brutal than Tiona. Unarmed, but wearing a pair of iron boots, he dominated the battlefield, often sending a monster flying before anyone could react, creating a thunderous impact.
Such intense and deadly combat could only be described as a war.
Among the adventurers of the Loki Family, only three had not yet joined the fight.
One was Fen, the leader, issuing commands from the rear.
The other two were a male and a female swordsman.
The black-haired male swordsman.
The blonde female swordsman.
They stood on either side of Fen, like guards, their eyes fixed on the battlefield.
"The time has come."
Fen's calm voice echoed at a certain moment.
"Ryker, Ais."
At the sound of Fen's call, the two swordsmen moved.
"Boom!"
In the sudden burst of wind, the two swordsmen shot forward like bullets, charging into the monster horde.
The air swirled around them.
A whirlwind seemed to appear out of nowhere.
The two swordsmen, like hurricanes, charged into the monster horde with fearless, unhesitating determination.
The others only felt a gust of wind pass by, and the next moment, the two swordsmen were already among the monsters.
"Clang!"
They drew their swords in a split second.
"Swish!"
They swung their blades without mercy.
The moment they entered the horde, the two swordsmen launched their attacks, their swords flashing.
"Thud!" "Thud!" "Thud!"
Instantly, the monsters were gutted and cut in half.
Sprays of blood filled the sky.
The cries of pain came a moment later.
Ryker and Ais, with expressions that could be described as cold and ruthless, became twin storms of blades, cutting down the monsters with countless slashes.
Slash after slash.
Flash after flash.
No monster could react in time.
No one could immediately realize the growing fear in their hearts.
At that moment, Ryker and Ais were genuine war machines, cutting the monsters to pieces, cruel yet beautiful.
"Amazing..."
Someone had already stopped moving, watching the scene, murmuring in awe or shock.
"Tch..."
The young werewolf Bert clicked his tongue, seemingly regretting something.
Everyone watched the two swordsmen with a mix of reverence and unacknowledged admiration, as they used identical sword techniques to continuously harvest the lives of the monsters.
Until—
"Retreat!"
At Fen's command, everyone snapped back to reality and retreated without hesitation, leaving the battlefield.
Ryker and Ais also stopped, not lingering, and retreated decisively.
At that instant, a large magic circle appeared on the ground.
The elf mages, led by the royal elf, stood on the magic circle, the air around them swirling, making their dresses dance, looking incredibly beautiful.
"High-Class Victory Sword."
Lifiria's voice echoed, and the other elf mages also called out their spells, awakening supernatural miracles.
Then, pillars of fire erupted.
Then, flames rained down.
These were all fire-based, wide-area destruction spells, catastrophic forces of mass destruction.
The elf mages summoned this power, making the flames either burst out in a radial pattern or rain down like a storm.
For a moment, the monsters were mercilessly engulfed in flames, their massive bodies consumed, their roars replaced by the sound of explosions, gradually disappearing in the intense heat.
The desolate land was enveloped in heat, which lingered for a long time.
The scene shifted, and the desolate land was no longer visible.
A camp had been set up in the wilderness.
Noisy chatter filled the air.
The sounds of metal clashing and casual conversations intertwined.
Adventurers carried various equipment, drove stakes into the ground, ran around delivering messages, prepared food, and lit campfires, creating a lively scene.
This was the Loki Family's expedition camp.
In this floor, which showed no signs of being deep underground, the adventurers of the Loki Family had built this camp, using it as a base to gather together.
"You're really amazing, Ryker!"
In a corner of the camp, Tiona was excited and enthusiastic, gesturing wildly.
"That was a Fomor, a monster that even a single level 4 adventurer would find extremely challenging to face alone, and you—"
"You cut them down like vegetables, so—easily!"
"You're not a level 4; you're clearly a level 5, first-class adventurer!"
Tiona was visibly shaken by this.
Not just Tiona, but even Dione was looking at Ryker with a strange expression, as if he were a human monster.
Even Ais and Rifiea exchanged glances, their thoughts mixed as they looked at Ryker, who was surrounded by them.
"Ryker is really getting stronger..."
Rifiea's eyes were complex.
"He's getting stronger again..."
Ais silently thought, her mind in turmoil.
Ryker, surrounded by the excited women, laughed awkwardly, then looked up at the high ceiling.
This was the 50th floor of the underground city.
It had been about two weeks since the Loki Family's expedition entered the dungeon.
Ryker, after many adventures, had finally reached this floor.
"This expedition was truly the right decision."
Reflecting on the journey, Ryker smiled.
