Chapter 18

"Save? Or not save?"

In fact, Zhao Futu didn't have time to think. The moment the giant werewolf lunged at the white-collar woman, he instinctively threw the short sword in his hand. This was entirely due to the education and instincts he had been trained with, a subconscious reaction that left no room for his mind to catch up. This impulsive action was entirely influenced by his mother's words and actions, without any time for deep consideration.

"If I die here, your education has truly failed miserably." As a modern person, especially one living in China, one must think thrice before helping an elderly person who has fallen, and even more so when encountering a car accident. The education Zhao Futu received was not easy to evaluate. This subconscious action was entirely a reaction influenced by his mother, without time for careful thought.

However,

He had no time to regret or reflect on anything at this moment.

Before the short sword he threw struck the frenzied giant werewolf, Zhao Futu had already turned and fled, running toward the alley between the houses. Among the people here, almost no one could kill that bloodthirsty giant werewolf. Its strength and agility were too terrifying! Neither humans nor werewolves themselves could withstand its direct attack, unless they had heavy weapons like ballistae. Otherwise, it was almost impossible to truly harm it.

"No grenades, no rocket launchers! How can I fight it?" A sense of despair rose in Zhao Futu's heart.

But he gritted his teeth and continued to run forward. He knew that if he couldn't kill the giant werewolf, he would eventually be caught due to exhaustion, especially since he was already injured. He felt the wound on his arm tearing open as he ran, and soon drops of blood began to fall onto the ground.

The giant werewolf was enormous. Whether it was because it was too drunk before transforming or due to some other viral mutation, this werewolf's strength could be considered boss-level. It had a crushing advantage over everyone, and no human Zhao Futu saw could withstand a single claw from it.

He had noticed the blacksmith earlier.

But the blacksmith was too drunk to provide any useful information. According to Zhao Futu's speculation, the blacksmith was likely unconscious when the giant werewolf transformed. However, under the influence of the werewolf virus, during the full moon, the virus matured and immediately triggered the transformation process.

Although the transformation was complete,

The blacksmith, as the main body of the transformed werewolf, was already half-dead from intoxication. This resulted in the giant werewolf being in a special state between drunkenness and berserk rage, leading it to attack any creature that approached. The human body was already heavily intoxicated before the transformation, and the werewolf body would likely remain in this state for some time.

This was even more so because the werewolf virus had not caused a second wave of mutation during the transformation process.

When humans are infected with the werewolf virus, there is a latent period. This period is very short, and the virus quickly matures. Once it matures, a werewolf's life is essentially formed. At this point, although the infected human has not yet transformed into a werewolf, they already possess some of the werewolf's powerful regenerative abilities.

In the "Underworld" series, the protagonist Michael's wound healed quickly after being bitten by the werewolf leader.

This is one of the signs that the werewolf virus has matured.

However, at this stage, the human is only a half-werewolf. To fully transform into a werewolf, another special catalyst is needed. This catalyst is the full moon. On the night of the full moon, the mature werewolf virus in the infected human will fully erupt, and this eruption is the process of transforming into a werewolf.

This process is extremely painful and dangerous, with nearly 40% of werewolf virus carriers dying during this stage. However, those who survive generally complete their first transformation successfully.

The willpower of the infected person during the full moon is the key to their survival.

...

"Phew! I can't... I can't go on!" Zhao Futu panted, leaning against the wall and sitting down.

His physical strength had severely declined due to blood loss, and his data-driven body had entered a weakened state due to excessive blood loss. Thanks to the mysterious abilities of the Nightmare Space, in reality, Zhao Futu would have likely fallen into a coma or died from blood loss after such a severe injury and intense physical exertion.

But even so, he had little strength left.

Before luring the giant werewolf away, Cain and the others were severely injured. The only ones with minor injuries were the glasses-wearing man and the pyramid scheme man. Zhao Futu doubted they would come to his rescue, as they had likely taken the opportunity to escape while the giant werewolf was distracted. They had probably already completed the main mission of killing a low-level werewolf in the previous battle, and their current task was simply to survive for 48 hours.

If they could escape from here, they could complete the task easily.

"Am I going to die?" Zhao Futu sighed lightly, feeling a sense of不甘 (reluctance).

He heard the angry roar of the giant werewolf. It had been delayed by the narrow space and winding terrain, and its boundless anger finally led it to make the right decision: to tear down all the houses! Its massive size made it difficult to move through the narrow alleys, and by the time it squeezed through, Zhao Futu had already run to another spot that would trap it again.

"Phew! I really don't want to die!" He still had a strong will to live, but his body could no longer move.

Zhao Futu tried to use his strong will to move his body, but he could only lift his hand a few times and could not stand up and run again.

In the end, he gave up.

"If I hadn't saved her, I might not die," Zhao Futu thought.

This place was truly dangerous. A small act of compassion could lead to death.

But did he regret it?

He should regret it. Zhao Futu really didn't want to die; he had too many things he needed to find answers to. But he also realized that if he had to do it again, he might still make the same choice.

"Sigh! When you make a mistake, you must pay the price." He sighed lightly and slowly closed his eyes.

Death crept closer, and he murmured in a low voice, "I wonder if that idiot woman managed to escape. If she didn't, I'll have died for nothing..."

But the next moment, he opened his eyes in anger.

Because the figure of the idiot woman suddenly appeared beside him, and she ran over to support him, tears in her eyes, asking, "Are you okay?"

This isn't a drama!

Why did I risk my life to lure the giant werewolf away, and you, the idiot woman, actually came back! If I had known, I wouldn't have saved you, you fool! Women are indeed brainless with big chests, unreliable in critical moments. If they were reliable, even pigs would climb trees!

Zhao Futu couldn't suppress his anger and spat out a mouthful of blood, fainting completely...
