“What do you think, Harris?”
“Call him chief.”
“Harris is still Harris anyways.”
The chief of the chivalric order, Harris, is my cousin.
He was a commoner, but his arms were strangely strong and he had become the chief of the chivalric order. At the swordsman tournament that was held in the royal capital, he won five consecutive rounds. He might be a monster. He has tan skin, bulky muscles, and hair the same colour as mine but kept short instead.
I’ve known him ever since I was born.
When I came to this front-line base, Harris was there for me and he really saved me.
It’s thanks to Harris that I’m not getting stomachaches from being told off by that vice commander in such an unfamiliar place.
“I think Caesar is a good and reasonable man.”
“Sure. To anyone else besides me.”
I groaned and cursed at him while rolling in bed.
I’ve been made to live in Harris’s room for some reason.
This is the largest private room in the front-line base though.
“Ah~……I want a room to myself.”
“If you won’t commit suicide, sure.”
“Like I said, you’ve misunderstood.”
Apparently, Harris stuck a label on me, saying I attempted to commit suicide.
When I had just arrived at this front-line base, I was too busy with my new research.
But there was no expensive facility like what the royal research institute had.
The thought of using a suitable substitution didn’t even cross my mind. A reaction started and the toxic gas broke out; my life was in danger.
”
”
That gas was something that’s often used for suicide, so Harris was really mad.
“To prevent you from attempting to suicide, you will be living in the same room as me so I can watch over you!”
Harris decided immediately afterwards.
I’ve told him that it was a complete misunderstanding, but he just won’t believe me.
Well, I can see why.
The person I was going out with stole my research, abandoned me, and just like that, I’ve been demoted to a remote area……
If you think about it this way, it wouldn’t be weird even if I do try to commit suicide (probably).
I didn’t hold that much love for that chief, Harris……
“Are you comfortable being here now?”
“I guess so, it’s been two months already.”
“I see.”
Harris patted my head with a gentle smile.
In Harris’s mind, I will probably be his little cousin forever. I’m already in my mid-twenties though.
“If it’s like that, then I can finally say it.”
“Eh? Say what?”
“I…I got an order as the royal capital’s imperial guard…”
“…Eh-”
The unexpected topic made me open my mouth. I probably look sloppy right now.
“The prince that I met during the swordsman tournament previously, really wanted me to be his instructor……”
“……”
“It’s a promotion, right?”
“…Seriously?”
From being a commoner to becoming an imperial guard. And the prince’s instructor, to boot. It’s such an incredible promotion that it’s unbelievable.
I should be glad about it, but Harris, who’s been a good adviser, is not going to be here……
“Wait a moment, the next chief-”
“Ahh, it’s confirmed to be Caesar.”
“……”
“He’s especially good at tactics, and he’s adored by his subordinates.”
“……”
“He’s going to be the one to watch over you to keep you from attempting to commit suicide.”
No, just hold on for a moment.
Are you trying to say that I’m going to be in the same room as Caesar?
I froze in place and Harris laughed heartily at me with a broad grin on his face.
“If you live together in the same room as him, surely you can resolve his misunderstanding towards you!”
Harris, I have realized once again that you were a dense musclehead…
