Chapter 3 of 35

Chapter 3

2 min read570 words

A few days later, Harris left for the royal palace in a hurry to finish his business.

I persuaded him till the very end.

I didn’t try to commit suicide.

I don’t need to live in the same room as Caesar.

So let me have a room to myself, I said.

“That’s cute. If by any chance anything bad happened to you, I’d regret making that kind of mistake for my whole life.”

He said, and spat out another sentence from his mouth, “Leave the decision to Caesar.”

That guy. Didn‘t he just say that at the end because it was becoming troublesome?

I woke him up in the morning and tidied up his clothes, made him tea and gave him simple healing treatment services too. Isn’t that because we were comfortable with living in a room together?

I was suspicious of Harris’s response.

“Lord Louie. I received an order from the previous chief to watch over you, but I didn’t get an answer as to why I have to.”

“I-I see……”

I wonder if Harris hesitated to tell him about it because it was a serious situation.

The suicide attempt incident caused quite a stir in this base, so it seems that it’s likely that it would be considered to be relevant.

No, wait, that’s not the point here!

“Uh, I can live in a different room-”

“Are you going to disobey my orders?”

“No…that’s……”

Why am I being blamed? I mean, Caesar probably can’t take being in the same room with the person he hates too.

Do knights even require self-control in this kind of place?

“Anyways, I’m supposed to bring my luggage by tonight. I’m saying this now, but don’t meddle in my life. I’m not close to people like the previous chief. Don’t step in without my permission.”

“Sighh……”

That’s why I said that I was fine with living in a different room.

This is bad, my stomach is starting to hurt.

“The candy that I received from Lord Louie, does it contain something? After tasting it, my body felt lighter.”

“There are substances that will help the body to recover. If you’re tired, you can come and get it from me anytime.”

I ignored my stomachache and worked hard.

I was observing the progress of the knight who broke his bone the other day, and it looked great.

“Speaking of which, who will the vice commander’s position be given to?”

I suddenly thought of it, so I decided to ask him about it.

“Ahh, a vice commander from another base will come to fill in. He used to be a vice commander here, and apparently he’s well-informed about this base. General Caesar had an urgent appointment, so it seems like the previous chief, General Harith, arranged for a reliable assistant.”

“He-eh…”

If I remember correctly, Caesar’s age isn’t that far from mine.

He may be too young to be the chief.

Harris’s retirement was sudden, so having an assistant will probably be easier for him.

Harris is a simple-minded person anyways, and he wasn’t very good with paperwork.

It’s easy to imagine that it will take a toll on Caesar’s life.

If the successor is a smart person then the burden will be lesser, but……

No, why do I have to worry about Caesar’s burden?

Rather, I want to run away from the heavy life that I will have from now on.

I sighed quietly.
