Chapter 33: Scenic Area Tour
The next morning, Li Shenxing got up at his usual time, went out for a run, and after returning, he went to the gym for his daily workout.
Yesterday, he had bought mussels and squid and put them in the fridge. For breakfast, Li Shenxing used them to make spicy seafood noodles.
The squid needed to be blanched in boiling water for a few minutes, and the noodles should be cooked to half-done.
Sliced onions, zucchini, and scallions were quickly stir-fried in a pot, then an appropriate amount of water, mussels, and a sauce made from minced garlic, soy sauce, cooking wine, chili paste, chili powder, and sesame oil were added. [If you have stock, it would be even better.]
Once the water boiled, the noodles, blanched squid, and shrimp were added. After the water boiled again, scallion threads and green chili peppers were added, and the dish was ready to be served.
"Oppa, it smells so good~ Is it ready to eat?" Hyo-ri called out to Li Shenxing in the kitchen as soon as she came downstairs.
Because she had slept well the previous night, Hyo-ri woke up quite early today, before 8 o'clock, and Li Shenxing didn't even have to go upstairs to wake her up.
"You came just in time. I was about to go upstairs to call you. We're having spicy seafood noodles today."
"That's great, I love it when it's cold outside," Hyo-ri said happily.
"Come on, it's ready to eat."
After the two of them enjoyed the steaming hot spicy seafood noodles, they changed into warm, windproof clothes, applied facial moisturizer, and put on scarves, hats, masks, and gloves, as the wind on Jeju Island was quite strong.
Li Shenxing and Hyo-ri, with their backpacks and sports shoes, set out together. They had decided the previous night to visit the main attractions on Jeju Island over the next few days.
Today, their plan was to visit the Chinese Tourism Area and Seogwipo City.
The main attractions in the Chinese Tourism Area include: Cheonjiyeon Waterfall, O'sulloc Tea Museum, Teddy Bear Museum, Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum, and the 4D Art Museum. They mainly planned to walk around the tea garden and visit the 4D Art Museum.
The main reason for visiting Seogwipo City was that Hyo-ri wanted to try the fresh seafood there, such as sashimi, abalone, and seafood soup.
Transportation on Jeju Island is very convenient. You can choose to take a taxi, regular bus, long-distance bus, or shuttle bus to visit the attractions. However, today they decided to take the bus for the entire trip.
Moreover, Li Shenxing had a T-money card, so he didn't have to worry about the hassle of getting change for the bus fare.
The two of them walked to the bus stop at the intersection. Fortunately, they didn't have to wait long, and the 740 bus heading to the Chinese Tourism Area arrived. Buses on Jeju Island generally come every 20 minutes.
When people hear the name "Chinese Tourism Area," they might think it has something to do with Chinese, but that's not the case. It's just a place name, though many Chinese tourists do visit here.
The weather these past two days has been very nice, with plenty of sunshine, making it a great day for travel.
Li Shenxing held Hyo-ri, and the two of them leaned against each other, looking out the window at the scenery. Although it was winter, the scenery outside the car window was still very beautiful.
After about half an hour, the bus arrived at the stop. After getting off, they had to walk a short distance to reach their first destination.
The Chinese Tourism Area is a comprehensive tourist site on Jeju Island and is the largest resort in Korea. It is located by the sea in the Chinese area, covering an area of 1.3 million square meters. This tourist and entertainment park harmoniously combines natural and artificial landscapes and was designated as an international tourist area in 1971.
The area includes attractions such as Pacific Land, O'sulloc Tea Museum, golf courses, fishing villages, Seolin Bridge, Cheonjiyeon Waterfall, and the Chinese Beach. Additionally, there are top-tier hotels like the Shilla Hotel, Lotte Hotel, and Hyatt Hotel, as well as various tourist service facilities, making it the largest tourist service area in the country. Foreign dignitaries often visit this area, making it famous worldwide.
The scenery by the sea in the Chinese Tourism Area is particularly beautiful, and many movies, TV dramas, and commercials have been filmed here. The courtyard of the Shilla Hotel, where the movie "A Moment to Remember" was filmed, is known as the "Hill of A Moment to Remember."
Following the route, they first visited the "Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum." From the outside, the museum's cartoon-like appearance looked quite bizarre.
After Li Shenxing bought two tickets, he and Hyo-ri went inside together.
According to the introduction on the ticket, the museum has two floors, including 12 exhibition halls and indoor spaces. Upon entering the museum hall, Li Shenxing and Hyo-ri saw a pumpkin carriage boat. The introduction in front said it had once operated on the Grand Canal in Venice. They also saw a singing wax figure band and the world's smallest car.
As they visited each exhibition hall, they saw Elvis Presley's hair, a man with a gold nose, the tallest person in the world, a 24K gold-plated sports car, a skeleton suit from Tibet, a quail egg portrait, and a dwarf in a birdcage. They could also experience a fun rotating tunnel. In one area, they were asked to stick out their tongues, and later they found out that their tongue-sticking actions were recorded by a camera.
There was also a place where they could play holographic dancing and leave their shadows. Hyo-ri was interested and danced a bit, which Li Shenxing found very beautiful.
The second floor was a bit scary, with many unexpected torture devices. They could interact with some exhibits, such as putting their heads in glass jars to take photos with the "human head jars" or pressing buttons next to the electric chair scene, causing the prisoner to convulse and scream.
Li Shenxing helped Hyo-ri take many funny photos and also asked other tourists to take group photos for them.
"Oppa, do you think the things they talked about inside are real?" Hyo-ri asked as they left the museum.
"From what I know, many of them are real, like the Chinese women with bound feet, the long-necked women with neck rings, the women with wooden discs in their ears and lips, the Chinese men with horns on their heads, and the man who can put a snake through his nose and out his mouth. They are all real."
"Really? That's so unbelievable!" Hyo-ri felt a bit incredulous, thinking they were fake just a moment ago.
"These are considered cultural peculiarities and unique people and events. They seem strange to us, but to them, it's just part of their daily life."
After leaving, they didn't go to the opposite Teddy Bear Museum, as they had already seen it at Lotte World in Seoul.
After using the restroom nearby, they walked to the entrance of the O'sulloc Tea Museum. When buying tickets, the ticket seller gave them a box of orange chocolate, and Hyo-ri immediately opened it and took a piece to taste.
"Hmm, it's pretty good. Oppa, try one," Hyo-ri said, putting a piece of chocolate in Li Shenxing's mouth.
Li Shenxing felt a bit helpless, as Hyo-ri knew he didn't really like sweet things, especially super sweet things like candy and chocolate.
Ignoring his unhappy expression, Hyo-ri laughed and pulled him into the tea museum.
The tea museum was small but had the advantage of being uncrowded, with only a few adults and children playing. Following the map, they saw imitation gardens in different styles from various countries. The Chinese and Japanese gardens were small and a bit dirty, as if they hadn't been maintained. The French and Italian gardens were more impressive. The circular glass dome at the entrance was particularly interesting, simulating different ecological environments. There were some plants they had never seen before, which were very beautiful. They could also take the elevator to the top floor to overlook the Chinese area, and if the weather was good, they could see the distant Mara Island.
It took them about half an hour to tour the entire place.
"It's just okay. The place is really too small," Hyo-ri said as they walked out.
Li Shenxing nodded, "It's indeed too small, not much to see. Let's go to the 4D Art Museum next."
There are 4D Art Museums in Seoul, Busan, and Jeju Island, and they are part of a chain. The one they were going to visit was the Seongeup branch in Jeju Island. The art museum was large, with four floors. The first floor was an ice sculpture exhibition, the second floor was a shopping area, and the third and fourth floors were the 4D photo areas.
