Chapter 34: Enjoyment
Li Shenxing and Hyo-ri first arrived at the ice sculpture exhibition on the first floor, where the indoor temperature did not exceed 5°C. However, they were dressed warmly enough, so they felt fine. Although the ice sculptures here were not as grand as those in Harbin that Li Shenxing had seen, they had a strong Korean flavor. Hyo-ri particularly liked the ice slide, enjoying the thrill of sliding down from the top while sitting on a cushion, and she played on it several times.
After she had her fill, they went directly to the 4D photography area on the third floor. The exhibition hall was large, and Li Shenxing roughly estimated that there were over 200 images. He also heard that the images were regularly changed, showing great creativity. There were over a dozen exhibition rooms, and following the blue arrow signs would ensure that no image was missed. There were markers in front of each image indicating the best position for taking photos, and side doors displayed sample photos to help visitors pose in the most personalized and fitting way.
If you were alone or wanted to take a group photo with your companions, the staff would provide free and enthusiastic service, which was very considerate.
However, with Li Shenxing's photography skills, even without those instructional markers, it wasn't much of a problem for him.
"Big T-Rex! Oppa, come take a photo of it trying to catch me." Hyo-ri made a panicked fleeing pose.
"Such a big sushi, the little cat is going to take a bite."
"Such a large bowl of dessert, little cat, you should hurry and eat it."
"King Kong! Oppa, save me~!!!"
"Oppa, run! It's a big python!"
The two of them continuously posed in various ways based on their imagination, keeping the camera busy.
However, by the end, both of them were a bit visually fatigued and no longer as excited as they were at the beginning.
"Oppa, I'm hungry." Hyo-ri hugged Li Shenxing's arm and patted her stomach.
Li Shenxing looked at his watch and said, "If you're hungry, let's go out. We'll take a bus to Seogwipo to eat seafood."
"But it's another half an hour to Seogwipo..." Hyo-ri pouted.
"What do you want to do then?"
"I want... to eat ice cream," Hyo-ri said hesitantly in a small voice.
"No way, it's so cold. What if you get a stomachache?" Li Shenxing objected.
"Ahh... I don't care, I want to eat it. If you don't give me some, I won't leave," Hyo-ri squatted on the ground and pouted.
"Alright, alright." Li Shenxing had no choice but to agree, "But you can only have half."
"They won't sell you half."
"I'll eat half first and then give it to you. That way, it works, right!"
Hyo-ri huffed and said unwillingly, "Half it is, then."
Actually, Li Shenxing was just teasing Hyo-ri. It was rare for her to act so playful with him, completely unlike her usual strong personality. As long as it made her happy, that was fine.
They bought a famous green tea-flavored ice cream cone. Li Shenxing took a small bite and then passed it to Hyo-ri.
Hyo-ri happily took it, licked it, and looked very satisfied. Then she extended it to Li Shenxing's mouth.
"Oppa, let's eat it together."
They took the bus to Seogwipo. If they were lucky, they might see the haenyeo (sea women) diving for abalone.
The two of them went to a large sashimi restaurant near the Eocheong Market. After finding a seat with the help of the ajumma (auntie), Li Shenxing took the menu and ordered the dishes, along with a bottle of rice wine.
Eating seafood is all about freshness. The most important thing is that the ingredients must be fresh, and the seasonings should not be too heavy, as they could mask the natural flavor of the seafood.
The dishes came quickly. Before Li Shenxing and Hyo-ri could chat much, a pot of seafood hot pot was brought to the table, filled with shrimp, mussels, sea snails, tofu, squid, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and sea crabs. The pot was brimming with ingredients, and it came with some side dishes and two bowls of rice. The seafood was freshly killed, and the squid was still wriggling. The hot pot was placed on a stove on the table and cooked right away, with the squid still struggling.
While the seafood soup was cooking, grilled sea bream, sashimi platters, stewed mackerel, and rice wine were gradually brought to the table.
As soon as the sashimi was served, Hyo-ri immediately picked up a piece with her chopsticks, dipped it in soy sauce, and put it in her mouth.
"Mmm~!!! So delicious. It's so fresh and sweet. Oppa, you should try it too." She picked up another piece, dipped it in sauce, and fed it to him.
Indeed, it was very fresh and sweet, crisp, and juicy. Li Shenxing also started eating.
"Oppa, rice wine, rice wine. How can you eat sashimi without drinking? Open it quickly." After a couple of bites, Hyo-ri urged Li Shenxing to drink.
"Alright, alright, I'll open it for you, but don't drink too much at once. Eat something to fill your stomach first." Li Shenxing twisted the bottle cap while nagging at Hyo-ri.
Unable to bear it, Hyo-ri picked up a piece of fish and stuffed it into his mouth to stop him from nagging.
Drinking the refreshing rice wine and eating the fresh and sweet seafood, Li Shenxing and Hyo-ri were quite satisfied with their meal. However, for those who preferred a stronger flavor, it might be a bit disappointing, as the dishes were quite light, focusing on the natural freshness of the seafood. For those who wanted a stronger flavor, they could order spicy stir-fried squid or stewed kelp.
After eating their fill, the two of them left the seafood restaurant and stood by the roadside. Li Shenxing looked at his watch and asked Hyo-ri, "It's 1:30 PM now. Where do you want to go next?"
Hyo-ri yawned and said indifferently, "Anywhere, let Oppa decide."
"Let's go to the bus stop and see. We don't plan to go home just yet." Li Shenxing thought for a moment, unsure of where to go next.
At the bus stop, Hyo-ri sat on a bench to digest her food, while Li Shenxing looked at the map on the sign to decide where to go next.
"Want to go see the Jeongbang Waterfall nearby?"
"No, the waterfall is too small and not impressive."
"How about taking a submarine to see the ocean floor?"
"Boring, I'd rather go scuba diving."
"Then, how about visiting the Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak)?"
"If we go now, we'll get home too late."
"Ahh... you don't want to go here, you don't want to go there. Let's just go home and sleep then." Li Shenxing grumbled, "Oh?? This, hehehe!!! Little cat, come here, how about we go here?? Hehe."
Hyo-ri got up and came to Li Shenxing's side, looking at where he was pointing.
"Ah! Oppa, what are you thinking! This is art, art." Hyo-ri said, seeing his lack of seriousness.
"I didn't say it wasn't art. Let's go, let's go. After we finish, we can go home." Li Shenxing said with a mischievous smile.
"Ah... seeing you smile like that, you must be thinking of something naughty." Hyo-ri said disapprovingly.
However, she did not refuse Li Shenxing's suggestion, and the two of them boarded the bus to LoveLand Park.
LoveLand is the world's largest theme park dedicated to love and sex, and it is also the only theme park on Jeju Island that is open at night. Built in 2004, it has become one of the most popular tourist attractions on Jeju Island. To prevent the park from being associated with pornography and to better convey human understanding and recognition of love and sex, almost all of Korea's most famous sculptors and artists have contributed, offering many good design suggestions and ideas.
The park covers a total area of 39,667 square meters (12,000 pyeong) and features over 100 outdoor works and 40 indoor sculptures. The park itself can be considered a massive work of art.
Note: Minors are not allowed to enter, so visitors with children cannot enter.
Now, LoveLand has become one of the most popular must-visit places for tourists on Jeju Island, especially for newlyweds, who often choose it as their honeymoon destination.
