Chapter 33 – Xiu Jin Garden (1)
When Shen Ziqiao came out of De’an Courtyard with a splendid mood as dazzling as the brilliant sun outside.
Hong Ying was standing at the sloped front steps when she saw her master, and went up to greet her at once, “Third Miss, you’re back already? Are you alright?”
“Why wouldn’t I be? Shen Ziqiao smiled and asked. “I’m in a good mood today, let’s go out for a walk.” Since her arrival in this world a few days ago, she had spent every moment walking on eggshells instead of truly enjoying the view of this world.
“Did the Qi’s messenger not come forth to discuss that matter?” Hong Ying was as blunt and straightforward as they came, and she had felt unfair the moment she heard of how the Old Madam had the intentions to marry Third Miss off to a fool. She was nothing short of restless when she came to know that Third Miss was to meet with a member of the Qi family, but there was nothing she could do.
Shen Ziqiao smiled and said, “What are you talking about? Qi’s Mama Gu had already left for home.”
It’s good as long as the visit was not for that matter! Hong Ying smiled again, “Where do you want to go, Third Miss?”
“Anywhere is fine, I am not familiar with it anyway.” Shen Ziqiao responded. She had not been to anywhere else in this world except the Thousand Buddha Temple.
“Let’s go to Xiu Jin Garden then. It’s the lotus flower’s blooming season now.” Hong Ying remarked.
Shen Ziqiao had never heard of the place, smilingly she nodded her head, “There it is then.”
Standing at the side, Ping’er piped up, “Nubi will arrange for a horse carriage.”
As both the master and her servants were happily getting ready to leave home, Cui Ping stepped in front with a forced smile blocking Shen Ziqiao, “Third Miss, Old Madam has instructed that nubi is to follow regardless of where you wish to go.”
“Is that so? Then we’ll go together.” Shen Ziqiao replied nonchalantly.
At the Qi’s, in the auxiliary study room.
Little Gu Shi placed two bazi cards on the big mahogany desk, “ My lord, these are the bazis of Zheng gē’r and Shen’s third daughter. I have had somebody calculate their bazis and was informed that they would make an excellent pair.”
“The Shen’s and us Qi’s are quite well-matched in terms of our social statuses.” Duke Ānguó, Qi Silin took a glance at both the bazi and asked without raising his head, “And the girl’s character?”
Still nitpicking on the character? Was it not enough that someone was willing to marry their daughter to a fool? Little Gu Shi criticised him internally, but responded with a smile, “Mama Gu had already gone and taken a look personally, she said that the Third Miss was a lovely and pleasant girl with an easy manner, unlike what was rumored.”
“Oh? Was there a rumor?” Qi Silin asked indifferently.
Little Gu Shi bit her lips, “That…..”
“Nothing happens without a reason. Do be more diligent in your search for a wife for Zheng gē’r .” Duke Ānguó raised his head, glanced at Little Gu Shi and stood up.
The imposing stature of the Duke brought Little Gu Shi an overwhelming sense of pressure, unable to look him in the eye, she lowered her head, “Yes, my lord. I understand.”
How was one supposed to go and pick a wife for a fool? Little Gu Shi felt that Qi Shilin was definitely too partial towards his eldest son.
But even if the fool received all the love and attention in the world, who was to say that he would end up inheriting the title? The only person who could be the heir, is none other than her son, her Feng gē’r !
Just as he was about to leave the room, Duke Ānguó turned back and saw Little Gu Shi still standing motionlessly in the same spot. With a raise of his thick eyebrows, he asked, “Is there any other matter?”
Little Gu Shi roused from her thoughts and pressed her lips together forming a thin smile, “Not at all. Where are you going, my lord?”
“I am going to Zheng gē r ’s place.” Duke Ānguó replied.
Qi Zheng was alone in the room having crickets fight.
Qi Zheng continued playing with the crickets when he saw Qi Shilin entering his room, but instead of greeting his father he kept playing and pretended not to see his father.
Duke Ānguó sighed inwardly and sat by the side. His eldest son was extremely intelligent as a child, endowed with great talents. If it was not for his wife passing and his negligence in regards to caring of Zheng gē r who fell into a serious illness, would his son end up the fool he was today?
It had been so many years, and yet he was still gripped with guilty conscience.
“Your mother wishes to propose a marriage for you to Shen’s third daughter. I hear that she is proper and rather pretty.” Duke Ānguó lightly coughed, “How do you fancy?”
