Chapter 34 – Xiu Jin Garden (2)
Keeping his head down, Qi Zheng’s eyes darkened. He laughed loudly, “Don’t fancy.”
Duke Ānguó had not expected a response from his son at all. All these years, it seemed that Zheng gē’r harboured great resentment for him, and so they had never really talked. “Then, then should I have your mother search for another girl?”
This time Qi Zheng did not respond, but the corner of lips tilted into a taunting smirk.
“What type of girl would you fancy?” Duke Ānguó asked again. As a father, he had never treated Zheng gē’r as a fool. All he’d ever believed… was that his son was merely a simple man.
Duke Ānguó asked a few more questions but it seemed like Qi Zheng was done with responding.
“Then I shall take my leave.” In the end, Duke Ānguó could only leave disappointed, again..
Qi Zheng placed the bamboo stick in his hand down and squinted as he watched the silhouette of Duke Ānguó disappear through the door. It seemed that the woman had yet to give up with her intention to betrothe him off…
The Third Miss of the Shen’s? The image of a lovely and innocent young girl came to mind.

She would also not want to marry him! One heard that she was deeply infatuated with the Ninth Wangye.
On the other hand, Shen Ziqiao had arrived at Xiu Jin Garden with both Hong Ying, her sister, and Cui Ping in tow.
Xiu Jin Garden belonged to the wealthiest family under the sky – the He’s. Built against mountain terrains and surrounded by lakes, it was a splendour with exotic flowers and rare herbs everywhere. The scenery was enchanting and beautiful, slightly resembling Summer Palace, perhaps the author had intended to depict Beijing’s Imperial Summer Palace
This Xiu Jin Garden had been mentioned a couple of times in the book, it was also where the female lead first met the head of the He family.
Shen Ziqiao leaned against the waterside pavilion’s banister, and looked at the lake bloomed full of lotus flowers, in an attempt to recall the book’s plot, she found a great deal of detail now fuzzy in her mind.
She only has herself to blame for picking out arcs to read at that time, and opting to overlook the rest of the main plot’s developments.
“The He’s have gifted the Imperial court such a magnificent garden, while allowing visitors to enter and go as they wish. This… this is…” When Hong Yu heard about how the He’s had selflessly opened the garden for public appreciation after its construction, she was dumbfounded.
Shen Ziqiao laughed, “Quite the nouveau riche.”
Cui Ping pursed her mouth, “The common people would not dare to enter though.”
Hong Ying pointed at a mountain peak in the distance, “Third Miss, look, don’t you think that looks like a statue of Buddha?”
“Indeed.” Shen Ziqiao nodded, muttering, “This is such a good area. The land couldn’t possibly have been cheap. The head of the He’s is way more upstart than the nouveau riche.”
Hong Ying was devoutly praying when she heard Shen Ziqiao mutter to herself, “What were you saying, Third Miss?”
Shen Ziqiao shook her head with a smile, “Nothing much. You can all go and look around, there’s no need to keep me company. I’ll be fine sitting here.”
Cui Ping’s expression soured, “Third Miss, you can’t send all us nubis away. The Ninth Wangye will not be in the villa today and you mustn’t go there again, or Old Madam will certainly beat us to death.”
“En? The Ninth Wangye’s villa is nearby?” Shen Ziqiao asked curiously, it seems like she does have a slight impression of it.
“Third Miss…..” Cui Ping looked at Shen Ziqiao as if to tell her to stop feigning.
Shen Ziqiao smiled and proclaimed, “I won’t go, really won’t go.”
However, Cui Ping, apparently, had not believed her. Hong Ying walked off though, to pick rare fresh flowers for the vase at home, Hong Yu, on the other hand, had a more sedate disposition, and was not curious enough to go anywhere, so she stayed behind to serve Shen Ziqiao should there come a need.
Cui Ping was not truly convinced that Shen Ziqiao came here today with the mere intention to appreciate the blooming of lotus flowers, so she spent the time keeping watch of Shen Ziqiao without even blinking her eyes.
