Chapter 42 – Like (2)

“Such a coincidence, my grandmother was also there today.” Shen Ziqiao today’s mood was not bad. She was practicing calligraphy when she heard Sheng Peiyin’s words and merely responded absent-mindedly.

Inwardly, Sheng Peiyin constantly reminded herself to stay calm and must not allow Shen Ziqiao to discern her true intention. “You do not seem the least nervous?”

Shen Ziqiao smilingly asked, “Why should I be nervous?”

“Today Old Madam purposely met up with Sister Yunmeng. Don’t you know that?” Sheng Peiyin claimed.

“Simply a meet up.” Shen Ziqiao was convinced that Old Madam Shen would definitely like Liu Yunmeng but she was unsure if Shen Xiao himself would like her.

This good-for-nothing! Was it possible that she truly believed as long as she did not want Liu Yunmeng to be her stepmother then Old Madam Shen would really let her have her way.

Sheng Peiyin was truly annoyed that she wished she could open up Shen Ziqiao’s head and have a look at what her brain was actually thinking of.

“Third Miss, Old Madam is back and knows that Sheng’s third miss is here, thus she sends someone to deliver this chilled melon over.” Cui Liu raised the door curtain and entered with a filled lacquer tray, smilingly stated.

“Thank Old Madam on my behalf.” Shen Ziqiao responded.

Sheng Peiyin said, “Old Madam is truly courteous. I will personally pay my respect and express my thanks to Old Madam later.”

Shen Ziqiao put down the calligraphy brush and she took a glance at Sheng Peiyin smirkingly. She walked to the table side, picked up a piece of watermelon and took a bite, “This is so sweet. I have also not been paying respect to grandmother these few days.”

The jolting of the horse-drawn carriage and social interaction with Madam Shen at the temple had caused fatigueness to Old Madam’s whole body. She had merely wanted to have a good rest when she reached home. Knowing that Sheng Peiyin was with Shen Ziqiao, she had no choice but to summon up her energy and send someone to deliver the melon over while conveniently probe what actually those two girls were talking about.

Before she could even get any information, Sheng Peiyin came hand in hand with Shen Ziqiao to pay their respects to her.

“Grandmother seems to be in good spirit today. I have not come to pay my respect to you for a few days already.” Shen Ziqiao smilingly uttered. Exhaustion could actually be seen on Old Madam Shen’s face as she greeted them while she reclined on a pillow when Shen Ziqiao and Sheng Peiyin entered the room.

Standing by the side, Mama Li took a quick glimpse at Shen Ziqiao; what eyesights did she have, how did she discern Old Madam’s good spirit today?

Sheng Peiyin curtsied, “Old Madam has been well lately?”

Old Madam Shen looked at them indifferently, “I am surprised you have the time to come over today?”

“It would be unacceptable if we did not come to pay our respects after Old Madam had someone delivered the melon over.” Sheng Peiyin responded with a smile, “Why don’t I give your legs a massage, Old Madam?”

“I don’t deserve that. Please have a seat, Sheng’s third Miss.” Old Madam Shen’s expression was somewhat relaxed with such fawning from Sheng Peiyin.

Shen Ziqiao took the seat on the side wooden armchair displaying an improper posture and was swaying both her legs, “Grandmother just came back from somewhere?”

“En. I took a trip to the Thousand Buddha Temple.” Old Madam Shen swept a glance at Shen Ziqiao from the corner of her eyes and stated nonchalantly.

"

"

“The Thousand Buddha Temple is a good place.” Shen Ziqiao reciprocated beaming with smiles.

Old Madam Shen then implied, “I ought to be home earlier, but ran into both sister and sister-in-law of the Liu’s and got delayed.”

“Grandmother ran into Sister Yunmeng?” Shen Ziqiao astoundingly asked then muttered to herself, “It turns out that Sister Yunmeng went to the Thousand Buddha Temple, no wonder Sister Sheng could not find her.”

Once Sheng Peiyin heard Shen Ziqiao’s words, she realized whatever she had spoken earlier had simply not entered her ears.
