Chapter 1: When I Arrived, Spring Was in Full Bloom
Because it was spring, today's rain seemed very light and gentle.
Densely, the fine raindrops fell diagonally onto the thick fur of the young buffalo.
The young buffalo's fur was dense, a new coat rich in oil, so the rain slid off it, with only a little moisture seeping into the fur, feeling icy and cool.
Winter fur wouldn't do that; it was thick and dry, capable of resisting both rain and snow.
Each time the winter fur shed, the young buffalo felt the world was very unfriendly to it.
So, the young buffalo slightly shook itself, and the raindrops flew off, turning into a dense mist.
The mist fell on other buffaloes, but it didn't cause any discontent. The fresh grass of spring wouldn't allow them to waste time on such trivial matters.
The young buffalo's figure was small among the herd, but it didn't feel discontent. If it ate grass for two more years, it would grow as tall as its father.
Thinking of this, the young buffalo couldn't help but look at its father standing on the highest point, envy evident in its eyes. The father was dark, tall, with strong, muscular limbs, a thick neck connected to a massive head, ensuring that the long, curved horns on his head would have the upper hand in any collision with an enemy.
The wind blew the long hair hanging from the father's neck, and the hair gently swayed. With the father's melancholic, deep eyes, the young buffalo felt that its father was born to be the king of the buffalo.
Looking down at its reflection in the puddle, the young buffalo felt it should also be the king of the buffalo.
Another young female buffalo's hoof shattered the small puddle, and with it, the young buffalo's handsome reflection.
The puddle became murky, ripples spreading.
The young buffalo panted heavily, its eyes gradually turning red, its neck lowering, a front hoof pawing the ground. It suddenly charged forward, its head, with half-grown horns, colliding with the rear end of the young female buffalo that had shattered its reflection.
The young female buffalo stumbled and then ran away in fear.
The young buffalo calmed down and continued to guard the puddle. It knew that if it waited a moment, the puddle would clear up and return to its original state.
However, the ripples in the puddle did not gradually subside as it had imagined; instead, they became more intense.
"Moo—"
The deep, powerful voice of the buffalo king suddenly sounded.
The buffaloes, who were eating grass, immediately stopped and looked alertly at the father.
The buffalo king, who had been standing on the high slope, charged down like a tank, guarding the northwest corner of the herd, his curved horns facing outward, his limbs tightly gripping the ground, as if guarding against the most terrifying enemy.
The herd quickly moved, the strong bulls all mimicking the buffalo king, their curved horns facing outward, quickly forming a circle to protect the females and calves.
When the young buffalo noticed this, the buffalo formation was already in place. It cried out in distress, trying desperately to get into the circle, but the strong bulls' bodies were too heavy for the young buffalo to move.
Unable to get in, the young buffalo lifted its head in fear, looking around for the source of danger.
There was no white wolf king on the high slope, no crocodile in the puddle, and although a group of vultures were circling in the sky, they were spreading out, as if some danger was approaching.
Vultures were not enemies of the buffalo herd.
So, where was the danger?
Several green wolves stood up from their hiding places and ran away without looking back, making the young buffalo even more afraid and trying harder to get into the herd.
"Moo—" The buffalo king roared again, his voice full of fear... The young buffalo's legs went weak, and it knelt on the ground. The last time the father had made such a roar was when they encountered the saber-toothed tiger king.
That time, the father, who had narrowly escaped, had a long scar on his back.
The young buffalo crawled under the legs of the bulls into the herd.
Trembling, it hid its head between the legs of a female buffalo, wishing it could burrow in.
"Boom—"
A loud sound echoed from the sky.
The originally gray sky seemed to ripple like the puddle the young buffalo had just shattered, but these ripples pushed away the clouds, revealing the clear blue sky behind them.
"Moo—"
The buffalo king roared again, this time aiming his curved horns at the sky.
A bright light ball slowly drifted down from the sky, and all the buffaloes stared at the not-so-big light ball.
The light ball seemed to descend slowly, but it was actually very fast. In the blink of an eye, it landed in the middle of the herd, and immediately, the light ball exploded, a circle of white light waves spreading out. The light waves, like sharp knives, cut through the buffalo bodies without any resistance.
The young buffalo watched helplessly as the female buffalo protecting it was cut neatly at the thigh, her body slowly sliding down and landing on it, letting out a low moan before dying.
"Thud, thud..."
Almost all the buffalo bodies were cut neatly, and some calves, though not cut, had their heads severed.
The light waves did not stop spreading, but their power quickly weakened, cutting through some shrubs and trees, and finally, heavily cutting into the high ground, raising a cloud of dust before disappearing.
The young buffalo saw the body of the buffalo king. His eyes, once deep and sharp, were now covered with a film that had lost its luster. So, the young buffalo hid its head under the half-body of the female buffalo, not wanting to know anything.
After a long time, when the vultures in the sky began to peck at the buffalo carcasses, the young buffalo finally pulled its head out from under the female buffalo's body.
This time, as soon as it lifted its head, it saw a small, soft, white figure.
Yunchuan sat dazed on the ground, and when the young buffalo looked at him, he was also looking at the young buffalo.
Both Yunchuan and the young buffalo's eyes were full of confusion and ignorance.
Yunchuan's hands were small and weak, his legs short and chubby, like a Michelin tire man.
He had only three teeth in his mouth.
Such a harmless Yunchuan.
But the young buffalo, nearly trembling with fear, inched closer to Yunchuan, laying its head on the ground, acknowledging Yunchuan as its new king... Other buffaloes would fight for the throne... They would only kill the buffalo king, or a couple of strong bulls, and at most, trample a few calves, but this small, strange, naked creature had killed all the buffaloes except for it.
Yunchuan sat curled up on the grass, a dung beetle pushing a ball of dung the size of a ping-pong ball past his feet, and a huge, colorful butterfly he had never seen before left its shelter and danced in front of him.
A large hole appeared in the sky, through which Yunchuan could see the clear blue sky.
The wind must have been strong up high, for in less than a minute, the cloud hole, which had been a perfect circle, was torn into an irregular shape by the wind.
After a while, the thick clouds completely covered the blue sky, but the drizzle became even more persistent.
The grass around him was long, at least for Yunchuan, and when he stretched out his left hand, he couldn't reach it, feeling very disappointed.
A grotesque, blood-stained buffalo head dragged a half-grown buffalo body, trembling on the ground.
Yunchuan turned and fled, not knowing how long he ran, but when he looked back at the dirty buffalo head, he realized he had only run about ten meters.
Looking at his chubby arms and the foolish buffalo head, Yunchuan decided to stop and think about why he had ended up in such a situation.
As Yunchuan began to think, the world became quiet.
And the silence was suffocating.
The silence lasted only a moment, and then a wolf the size of a calf appeared in front of Yunchuan.
Its facial fur was wrinkled, revealing a mouth full of fangs, and it approached Yunchuan step by step, drool visible at the corners of its mouth.
Yunchuan looked down at his plump, tender legs, and even he thought his meat should be delicious...
The young buffalo, lying on the ground, had no intention of accepting its fate and flipped over, running away with its hooves.
The green wolf's fierce gaze swept over Yunchuan and the young buffalo, and it leaped to chase the young buffalo.
Before Yunchuan could hide in the grass, he heard a piercing howl. The green wolf that had just jumped out rolled and fell in front of him, its head limp on the ground, blood gushing from its mouth.
Then, Yunchuan saw a tiger with a mottled coat.
He swore it was the first time he had seen the king of beasts up close in the wild.
Its coat was like brocade in the sunlight, rippling as the tiger moved.
This creature moved slowly, each step steady, even as many wolf heads appeared around it, it still walked leisurely.
When it moved, Yunchuan's blood rushed to his head, and he realized how massive the tiger was when it leaped into the air, spreading its limbs to pounce on the wolf pack.
Four paws extended with dozens of two-inch steel-like claws, and with a light swipe, the wolf's head was shattered and it fell heavily beside Yunchuan.
The young buffalo ran around the circle where the wolves and the tiger were fighting, seemingly trying hard to survive. Unfortunately, every time it was about to escape the circle, a wolf would chase it back.
With no place to run, the young buffalo saw Yunchuan sitting motionless in the middle of the circle.
So, it quickly jumped to Yunchuan's side, hiding its massive body behind Yunchuan.
The battle between the tiger and the wolf pack was bloody, and Yunchuan had completely given up on survival, only opening his eyes wide to watch the rare and intense battle with interest.
