From the port, it took ten days by carriage.
Upon arriving at the capital of Stilier, we stood in front of a mansion that made us want to comment, "Is this really a palace?" in astonishment.
No, no, right?
We had heard that a mansion would be prepared for us.
But, who would have thought that one of the royal palaces would be provided?
Mother held her temples and sighed, "Well, we weren't using it, but still..."
According to Mother, this large palace was used by the royal family three generations ago.
The king from three generations ago built a new palace during his reign, so this one had been left unused.
"Knowing my brother, he probably thought, 'It's not being used anyway, and it's a reward, so why not give them a palace?' and decided on this place with that kind of attitude."
Mother sighed again.
Yes, I've never met Uncle in person, only communicated through letters—but if it's Uncle, he would do something like this.
He's the kind of person who is bold and easygoing, and loves surprising people.
We brought a few servants from the Felsenstein Duke's household, but they all stood there with their mouths open.
I could hear them muttering, "What? Cleaning this will be a hassle, right?" and "How many rooms are there?"
Yeah, that's right. It's obvious that the number of servants is insufficient.
It's unreasonable to expect ten servants to clean such a huge palace.
Not to mention, the garden is also very large!
But, there's nothing we can do about what we've received.
We would have preferred more information and confirmation beforehand, but our family also bears responsibility for leaving everything to Uncle.
As we entered the entrance hall, which was so wide it could have been a ballroom, two rows of men and women in servant uniforms lined up.
"Huh?"
I couldn't help but let out a strange sound.
As I wondered who they were, a handsome man in his fifties, wearing a tuxedo that made him look like a butler, stepped forward and smiled.
Wow, what a handsome man! No, a handsome older man!
"Nice to meet you, sir, madam, young master, and young lady. My name is Filibert. I have been appointed as the steward of this mansion by His Majesty the King. Please take care of me. And these are the servants."
It turns out that King Stilier had even arranged the servants.
This is the second surprise of the day.
Really, I wish Uncle had shared the information beforehand!
Apparently, Uncle had been concerned that the number of servants would be insufficient, so he had hired them in advance and prepared the mansion for us to settle in comfortably from the day we arrived.
Just hearing that makes him seem like a very capable and kind uncle, but it's really hard on the heart. Communication is the basic principle of work. Well, he probably did it to surprise us, so in that sense, it was a huge success!
Mother was rubbing her temples with her fingertips, saying, "I have to complain to my brother later."
"While we appreciate it, I wish he would stop enjoying surprising people."
We three nodded in agreement.
However, we no longer have to urgently recruit and interview servants.
While being surprised is troublesome, we should still be grateful to Uncle.
The servants we brought from the Felsenstein Duke's household were also starting to talk with Filibert and the others, probably to share information and discuss their future tasks.
Since we might be in the way here, we decided to head to the dining room to rest from the long journey.
They said they had prepared delicious cake and tea!
