"Hey, are you listening? A pair of people are heading towards this grave."
"Yeah. Damn, of all times, they come now... and there are only the two of us here at night."
The hero's cemetery—this is the place where great heroes who have accomplished remarkable deeds rest, and it is a place where many people show their respect.
The gravekeepers, who guard such a cemetery, were hurriedly preparing for defense.
Unbelievably, two suspicious figures were discovered heading towards this place. Knowing it wasn't a coincidence, it was certain that they were foolish people who intended to desecrate the heroes.
"Probably thieves trying to steal valuable items. There are some truly despicable people out there."
"I can't stand their schemes to make easy money, but touching the heroes' belongings is even more unforgivable. They should be captured and executed."
The gravekeepers, fueled by anger, held their weapons. They had defeated several grave robbers in the past, most of whom were thief-like individuals. The two, with their strong sense of justice, could not allow someone who had sold their soul to the devil to go unpunished.
This time, it would be the same—capture them and cut off their hands. The grip on the gravekeepers' weapons tightened even more.
**********
"---They're coming. First strike is the key."
"---Right."
The gravekeepers were hiding in the shadows of the gate, ready to ambush. The moment they entered, they would cut their bodies in half with their axes. This was the quickest method and the one they were most confident in.
They had buried many thieves using this method before. It was only possible because of their skilled teamwork.
"---Now!!"
"---Yah!!"
The two swung their axes simultaneously. The ones standing there were a man who looked familiar and a girl who appeared to be about the age of a young girl.
The man, with remarkable reflexes, dodged the axes. His movements were far beyond those of a thief. He gave off the impression that he could be a famous adventurer.
"---Fayris!"
However, the attack hit the girl perfectly. Fayris, as she was called, collapsed as if she had lost all her strength.
A slight sense of guilt arose within the gravekeepers, but in a battle for life, there was no time to think about such things. They quickly shook off the evil thoughts.
"…Heh heh."
While confirming the organs spilling out of her abdomen, the girl died.
Only the man was left. Just as one of the gravekeepers turned his gaze towards him, he noticed something strange happening to his body.
"Ughhhhh!?"
"---W-What's wrong!?"
The one who shouted was the gravekeeper who had attacked the girl. He was crouching, pressing his abdomen, eyes wide open, and writhing in pain.
The man didn't seem to have done anything. However, the girl was already dead, and she hadn't done anything either.
"It, it hurts… it hurts—"
Then, as if his soul had suddenly vanished, the gravekeeper collapsed.
"Hey!?!"
When he approached to check, the gravekeeper was found dead with his organs spilling out of his abdomen, just like the girl had died.
"You… what did you do?"
"…I see. This is what Aria meant…"
"Don't spout nonsense and answer me!"
"Resurrection of the Dead"
Without answering the gravekeeper's question, the man muttered some strange words.
"…Phew. Thank you, Licht."
"If you had that ability, you should have mentioned it earlier… I was scared."
"---What!?"
The gravekeeper couldn't hide his shock. The girl, whom he was sure he had killed, had risen as if nothing had happened. Her abdomen showed no signs of injury, not even a scratch, as if time had been rewound.
"Don't, don't come any closer!"
The gravekeeper, whose legs had given out, tried to create some distance using his hands.
Even so,
the distance he had managed to create was quickly closed in just a few steps.
"Stop… stop it…"
"---Hahaha. Hahahahaha."
The girl, with a terrifying smile, thrust the knife she had taken from the gravekeeper into her own neck.
Although the one who should have been killed was trying to die, the gravekeeper was not happy about it. He knew it would come back to him.
Trying to stop her, his legs gave out, and his breathing became erratic with fear. In the end, he could only watch her suicide.
And,
under the gaze of the two, the girl easily lost her life.
