Another half year passed, and I can now swing a wooden sword 100 times in a row. In terms of magic, I can not only use the basic attributes of ice but also the intermediate spells of fire, water, wind, and earth, as well as the advanced attributes of ice, lightning, light, and darkness, and even the special attribute of time and space.
However, I don't know what I can do with the unique attributes, so I plan to have them checked in detail at the Grand Cathedral when I go to the capital for the entrance exam of the Royal Magic School.
Recently, I have also started learning how to create magic circles for use in magic. There are items called magic items, which are not just weapons and armor but various items enchanted with magic circles. I have also started studying how to create these magic items.
The foundation of magic is writing magic circles. Even if one can use magic, if they cannot write magic circles, they are called a mage. Those who can write magic circles are called magicians.
Magic items are widely used by the common people, so magicians are often more valued than mages for various reasons. Money is needed to live, after all.
One can only write magic circles of the attributes to which they are attuned. In other words, someone without the fire attribute cannot write a fire magic circle. This is because one must infuse magic power when writing a magic circle, and they cannot infuse the magic power of an attribute to which they are not attuned.
The item itself can be a commercial product, but if it is a poorly made item by an inexperienced craftsman, it will break when infused with magic power during the writing of the magic circle. Therefore, one must choose a suitable item for writing magic circles.
Amidst all this, I set out for the capital to take the entrance exam.
The Brütsels Margrave family has mansions in both the capital and the domain capital, Brünhild. I was convalescing in the domain capital, Brünhild, due to my frail health, while my family generally lives in the capital. However, my mother has been living in the domain capital, Brünhild, to accompany me, and she seems happy to be returning to the capital after several years.
I have one older brother, two older sisters, and one younger sister, but the sisters are from different mothers, and my brother is the only one from the same mother. My father has two other wives besides my mother, who is the main wife, and the other two are the second and third wives. Fortunately, the only male children are my brother and I, and since my brother is the firstborn, there are no disputes over the wives' ranks.
Naturally, I have never met my siblings. My brother graduated from the Royal Knight School and joined the knight corps as a junior knight, and is now a full knight. My eldest sister has also joined the knight corps as a junior knight. My second sister is a second-year student at the Royal Magic School, so she will be a third-year student when I enroll, and she currently lives in the dormitory. My younger sister is studying with a private tutor at the capital mansion and is scheduled to enter the Royal Magic School when she turns 12.
The journey to the capital takes about 15 days by carriage. For this trip, about 20 knights, including Captain Rosaria and Deputy Captain Fedeler, will accompany us. I think it's a lot of guards, but since the main wife of a margrave is also traveling, this is probably standard.
"Christoph, are you ready?"
"Yes, Mother."
"If you feel unwell during the journey, tell me immediately."
It has been over a year and a half since I came to this world, but I was not allowed to go outside the mansion, so this trip is my first outing. I am quite looking forward to it.
Brünhild is a well-developed city with a large population, but it is still considered a border region. The reason is that to get from Brünhild to the capital, one must cross a mountain range, which takes about three days through a treacherous mountain path. In the past, it took about 10 days just to cross the mountains, so the road conditions have improved significantly, but there are still many monsters, and regular large-scale hunts are conducted. However, it is still not a safe journey.
Even without the mountain path, there are monsters, and sometimes bandits attack.
This is truly a fantasy world.
Three days after leaving Brünhild, we reached the mountain path. Until then, we had not encountered any monsters or bandits, but as soon as we entered the mountains, monsters attacked.
"Captain Rosaria, what kind of monster is that?"
"Those are Blood Wolves. Individually, they are F-rank monsters and not very strong, but they attack in packs, so one must be careful to avoid injury."
The Blood Wolves have black fur, are larger than shepherds, and have red eyes. They have a keen sense of smell and can track their prey from a distance.
Monsters have ranks, from G, F, E, D, C, B, A, S, to EX. When a monster reaches rank A, a large-scale hunt is organized, and at rank S, it is considered a natural disaster. When an EX-rank monster appears, it is said to be a crisis for the survival of humanity. Frankly, in the case of S or EX, it is better to wait for them to pass rather than fight.
The 12 Blood Wolves that appeared were easily defeated by the knights.
"Every monster has a magic crystal. If the magic crystal is not extracted after the monster is defeated, the monster will become a revenant and wander. Therefore, we always collect the magic crystals after a hunt. Additionally, magic crystals are necessary for creating magic items, so the Adventurer's Guild and the Merchant's Guild always buy them."
Oh, so there is an Adventurer's Guild.
That's a staple of fantasy worlds!
