On the mountain path, we were attacked by monsters several times. When I asked if there were always this many, I was told that it had been a while since the last scheduled extermination, and they had been reproducing. Fortunately, another scheduled extermination is about to take place, but I think they should have done it before our journey. However, it seems that there are specific times when a large number of monsters appear, and the exterminations are timed accordingly.

I think it would be better to build a fortress or a garrison along this mountain path and regularly clear out the monsters, but there must be a reason why they don't do that.

After passing through the mountain path, we continued through grasslands and forests and arrived at a large town. Compared to Brynhild, this town is smaller, but it is much larger than the villages and settlements we've passed through so far.

"Today, we will stay at an inn here. We are almost to the capital, but is Lord Christophe feeling well?"

I'm feeling fine, but after such a long journey, my butt is numb. I just hope the trip ends soon. I didn't expect the carriage ride to be so hard on my butt. The carriage doesn't have any suspension, and although there are cushions on the bench, the ride is far less comfortable compared to the cars and trains I was used to in Japan.

"I'm fine."

Mother seems to be used to traveling or is just very patient, as she looks calm, but I must have looked tired.

"We will stay here for two nights, so we will depart on the morning of the third day."

Thank goodness. I'll have to modify the carriage's suspension eventually, but I need to take some immediate action.

What, it's too late for that?

Well, we haven't encountered any towns so far, only small villages and settlements, so even if I wanted to do something, I couldn't get the materials.

"Mother, can I go for a walk around the town?"

"Hmm, I wonder."

"Madam, I think Lord Christophe is feeling down after the long journey. How about allowing him to go with a few guards, on the condition that he doesn't go to the slums?"

Hanna, that's a great suggestion!

"Alright. Hanna, please arrange the guards. And Christophe, you must not leave the guards."

"Yes!"

This town is called Fyls, and it is governed by Lord Filiam. The town is famous for its oranges, and 60% of the oranges consumed in the capital come from this region.

Additionally, the nearby forest is a monster spawning spot, so the magic crystals and materials obtained from monsters also support the town's economy.

I have four guards, two on either side and one behind me. They are quite annoying, but I don't feel the need to shake them off, so I just walk around the town.

It's quite moving to explore a new town that isn't Brynhild or the capital. The brick buildings have a European charm and are a pleasure to look at. As the town is known for its oranges, there are not only fresh oranges but also many orange products. The most popular is the orange juice sold everywhere in the town. The 100% orange juice is richer and sweeter than the orange juice I used to drink in Japan, but it's served warm, which is a downside.

In this world, there is no custom of chilling drinks, and even ale is consumed warm. That's why when I modified the warehouse in Brynhild's manor to create a room for chilling drinks and ale, my mother and the retainers were delighted, and the knights were more willing to guard the manor to get cold ale.

As I walk around the town, I occasionally see people with different ear shapes. These are the typical "animal ears" found in fantasy worlds. Some have tails, and a few even have wings.

My race is Human, and there are many other races in this world besides Humans, such as Beastfolk, Elves, Dwarves, and Demons. There are many more races as well.

The Holy Bandum Kingdom is a Human country, but it is one of the few countries that does not discriminate against other races. This is because the first king, who was a Japanese hero, strictly prohibited racial discrimination.

However, not all countries are like the Holy Bandum Kingdom. In fact, the Holy Bandum Kingdom is one of the few countries with little discrimination.

The most discriminatory country is the Holy Orion Kingdom, a Human supremacist nation. The Holy Orion Kingdom is a theocracy led by a pope, and the country is run by priests.

...Why do religions care about races and discriminate against them? I can't understand it.

While I'm on the topic, let me briefly mention some other countries. I live on the Central Continent, the largest of the four continents. On this continent, there are four major countries, and one of them is the Holy Bandum Kingdom. The other three are the Holy Orion Kingdom, the Dwarven nation of Jegan Republic, and the Human nation of Bossum Empire.

The Bossum Empire is also a highly discriminatory country where it is difficult for non-Humans to live. The Jegan Republic, on the other hand, does not discriminate based on race, but it has a class system based on production skills and combat abilities.
