“Oh, come on, don’t be mad Eve, one party isn’t going to kill you.” She says pulling on to the side of the road.
“I agreed to go, I’m not mad.” It’s a lie of course I just need to get my mind off Ben. He didn’t talk to me once in the last two days. He’s probably decided that I’ve already caused enough trouble.
“Then stop sulking, please?” She says pushing her bottom lip into a pout.
“Okay!” I practically yell. We both stare at each other before bursting out into laughter.
“Yell a little louder Eve I don’t think Canada heard you.” She says thru laughs.
“Oh shut up,” I say swatting her arm “Now let’s get in there before I change my mind,” I say getting out of the car.
The house is enormous. I’m not even sure whose house this is. I follow Mads into the living room, who now has red cups filling her hands.
“Hey, I’m gonna go find Rue. I’ll find you in a bit.” She says and hands me a cup.
I walk around occasionally taking sips of whatever’s in the red cup. I turn around to somebody tapping my shoulder.
“Er, hey,” I mumble, looking straight at him.
“Hey, long time no see,” He says with a grin. It’s my ex River.
“Yeah, let's keep it that way,” I say and begin to walk away.
He grabs my wrist “What? Why? I know you miss me, Eve. The only reason I came here is because Maddalin said you’d be here. I want to give us another shot.”
“Um, no, if I wanted to talk to you I wouldn’t have blocked you. Now leave me alone.” I say and try to tug my wrist out of his firm hold.
“Exactly you blocked me so I haven’t even been able to present my case.” He says stretching his grin wider, showing off his rack of perfect pearly teeth.
“Present your case?” I ask sarcastically.
“Listen, Eve, I know what I did was messed up, but I have needs. But I promise if you just give me one more chance, I will wait as long as it takes.” He pleads. I know it’s all a charade. We were only together for 4 months, but he got his talons in my skin and it took me another 4 to get over him. I had not been ready to have sex with him when we were together. I hadn’t really been saving myself for anything, but I wanted to get to know him a bit better before I offered him my virtue. I didn’t even want anything special I just wanted to be in a good place when we finally did do it.
“Bye, River,” I say and rip my wrist away, and try to keep the tears from spilling out of my eyes.
I hate that after all this time he still makes me want to curl up and cry.
