No matter how much the leader of the troupe reasoned to Xia Yuzhou, he resolutely refused to persuade Si Jun to participate in the cultural festival. He gave several good reasons, such as, “People now consider him to be more handsome than me. If he goes, then I won’t be the most handsome guy at the cultural festival!”
Moreover, he didn’t want to live up to the rumors as his “Umbrella Boy”.1 So he decided to keep a safe distance from the School Heartthrob to let this handsome young master be beautiful alone.
However, reality soon gave Xia Yuzhou a merciless blow.
“We will have a quiz next week, and your score will be added to your final grade.” The lingering pleasant dream in the early morning of the first period was broken by Professor Ruthless.2
A clamour of wailing resounded in the classroom.
“Isn’t this just an elective course? Then why does this class have a quiz that you could only find in horror novels?” Noob lay on the table like a noodle, feeling as if there’s nothing left to live for.3
Xia Yuzhou was startled awake.
Ever since he handed the 10,000 word count paper, Ruthless Lord Gong seemed to have transformed to Lord Gong. He didn’t know if he thought he was a gifted genius who does not need to attend class or that he’s simply incurable, because he never paid attention to whether he slept to class or not. So when it comes to tests, don’t even mention the main points in the lectures, he doesn’t even know the teacher’s last name.4
“Let me copy your notes.” Xia Yuzhou looked at Noob.
Noob spread open his notebook silently. The sheet was shining white, it was simply cleaner than his face.
Xia Yuzhou supported his forehead in defeat, then looked at Si Jun at his side seated near the end of the desk,5 and said, “Let’s go self-study together. I’ll reserve a seat that has an excellent feng shui in the library.”
Si Jun, “I don’t have notes either.”
Xia Yuzhou picked up his umbrella, “Of course I know you don’t have notes. I just want to exchange feelings with you, sir.6 Come on, this little one7 will hold the umbrella for you.”8
Si Jun, “……”
In fact, there’s no need to take notes in this elective course since it’s all theoretical and conceptual knowledge. The only difficulty is that the textbooks are thick enough to kill a person, and since there are too many definitions to memorize, it’s especially difficult for those cramming students who like to live by the edge of the blade.
“You can just mark what the Professor had lectured,” Xia Yuzhou said as he spread out his textbook in front of Si Jun and handed him a pen. At the same time, he turned on his laptop and asked Cai Chengbi, who was now at the dormitory, for the coursework of this course. Although this guy didn’t listen to the class well, he would diligently copy the syllabus of his every class.
Si Jun opened the cap of the pen, flipped the textbook to the table of contents page, and checked the titles of chapters 2, 3, 6 and 9.
Xia Yuzhou, “Mr. Si, your points sure are really specific.”
Four chapters, nearly 100 pages.
Si Jun closed the pen and handed it to him, then flatly replied, “We have no subordinate relationship so you don’t have to use honorifics with me.”
This is not honorific! It’s sarcasm!
Xia Yuzhou was so angry that his chest hurt from holding back, so he put on his mask to prevent himself from biting someone from anger, “Are you a southern?”9
“Ting!” The coursework was sent over and from the look of it, it was a large file. Because it took 38 seconds to transmit the file in the library’s Gigabit fiber network speed.
“Why is it so big?” Xia Yuzhou was somewhat suspicious. The file document is theoretically small. He hooked on Si Jun’s sleeve and said, “Let’s see if this is wrong?”
He clicked on the compressed file named “Reproductive Medicine” to decompress it for viewing, and it automatically opened to full screen. The computer screen went black for a moment, then a beautiful and alluring foreign girl appeared in front of the camera, with her creased brows she cried out, “Yamete!”10
The coquettish cry instantly broke the tranquility of the library, and the whole floor of people instantly looked over.
【How shocking! To think Xia Yuzhou would do such a thing in the library with the School Heartthrob!】
In an instant, Xia Yuzhou whose head was full of such headline news, quickly closed his computer in a flash, while casually craning his head to imitate everyone looking around, and even whispered to Si Jun, “Who is it? To do it in the library, no less ah.”
Si Jun meanwhile, still mantained his posture of holding the book seriously.
When everyone saw Si Jun, their eyes consciously bypassed them and swept their eyes to look elsewhere. After searching in full circle and still could not locate this bold man, they all retracted their gazes.
When the crisis was over, Xia Yuzhou breathed a sigh of relief. He turned on his laptop and with a “click-click-clack” of his keyboard, he scolded Noob, “What the frick did you send!”
The other party typing indicator paused for a moment, and sent a kowtowing emoticon, 【_| ̄|○)) Oops, I got it wrong. This is the reproductive medicine in my computer, what the Professor gave was this Reproductive Medicine Course.】Then finally sent the correct file.
Xia Yuzhou, “……”
Si Jun looked at him and suddenly couldn’t help laughing.11
Xia Yuzhou got infected with his laughter and his anger dissipated. He poked Si Jun with his elbow and said, “Hey, we can be regarded as comrades having watched this film together. You can sort out the key points in the PPT and give it to me afterwards, okay?”
“Hey!”
That simple and crude shout pulled Xia Yuzhou out from his dream of the idle days as a youth, and his eyes darken.
“Why are you asleep, and where’s my big nephew?” Zhou Shu squatted at the edge of the carton, lifted the paper that covered his face and looked at him askew.
Xia Yuzhou sat up suddenly, causing his work plans to fall down messily. They twisted and turned12 to the point that he can’t even recognize what was written down.
He raised his hand and wiped his face. The memory in the dream slowly drifted away, and he couldn’t even remember how Si Jun answered.
He tossed the messed up papers into the wastebasket and asked, “What time is it?”
Zhou Shu glanced at his watch and said, “10 o’clock. Why hasn’t my nephew arrived yet?”
This place is only twenty minutes drive from the Affiliated Hospital of the Medical University. The hospital would start it’s rounds at 6 a.m. so the child should have been awake by now, but for him to still not show up now…
“Something is wrong.” Xia Yuzhou straightened up in alertness. He opened the refrigerator and took out two packs of blood, one of which he threw towards his brother for him to drink. “I’ll go and have a look. You can stay here to take care of the clinic.”
“I’ll go too.” Zhou Shu opened the blood bag and took a bite of it to sip ravenously, all the while, he picked up his backpack and slung it on his shoulder.
Xia Yuzhou put the blood pack to the backpack to store, and snatched it away from Zhou Shu, “You wait here. What if we end up missing each other? So there must be someone in the clinic in case the child arrived.”
“Then you stay, I’ll go instead. That person with the surname Si must be there too!” Zhou Shu pulled him back.
“Do you know what the child looks like?”
“Dunno.”
“Then be good and stay here!”
Compared to last night, the Affiliated Hospital of Medical University is much more lively now that it was bright in the day. It was especially so when he arrived at the first floor hall which was teeming full of people.
Xia Yuzhou briskly walked to the critically ill ward, and just as he reached a corner, he overheard two nurses discussing Chen Mo.
“Thankfully Professor He came on time, otherwise Chen Mo would have been taken away directly.”
“He’s really pitiful, to have such a mother like her.”
Xia Yuzhou came near and pulled down his face mask a bit to reveal his nose and upper lip, “Excuse me, I’ve heard your discussion. I’m a fan of Chen Mo, and I’ve come to visit him. May I ask what happened?”
When the two nurses looked over and saw it was a handsome and genial little brother inquiring, they let down the guard which was evident on their faces and replied, “Sigh, you came at the wrong time. They are doing a television interview over there right now. I don’t think you will be given the time to see him today.”
Xua Yuzhou was taken aback at that, and said, “He’s so ill, how could they interview him?”
When the nurse heard him say this, she got so angry and replied while gritting her teeth, “Isn’t it? Doctor Si said that he cannot be disturned but the mother simply did not listen to reason, and instead brought a bunch of people inside.”
Xia Yuzhou gave his thanks to the nurses and went to the ward after placing back his face mask.
In the ward, reporters carrying their camera with long microphones surrounded to shoot the pale teenager on the bed. A fashionably dressed middle-aged woman with her arms crossed was in front of the door. She said, “I’m his mother, will I ever hurt him?”
A man in a wine red shirt and a white coat looked at her coldly through the reflected light of his frameless glasses. “We have found a suitable bone marrow donor and we are just finalizing the process of the volunteer’s consent. Two suitable volunteers are already willing to donate. If you take him away now, then you simply want him to die.”
“Heh, Do you think I’m ignorant?” The woman sneered and continued, “The last time he was examined, the doctor had already judged his survival rate very low even if he was transplanted with a matched bone marrow. So he will die faster if his body rejects the bone marrow transplanted. Moreover, his current body’s situation simply couldn’t stand the operation at all.”
The man didn’t seem to want to argue with her, but the woman suddenly raised her voice, “He Yu, don’t think I don’t know your real purpose. Don’t you just want to use his fame to make a fortune just like last time? I’m telling you now, I’m not giving you any opportunity!”
The camera in the room turned to the outside of the room, trying to capture the emotion in Professor He’s beautiful face. He Yu was obviously unwilling to be photographed so he turned his head, just in time to see Xia Yuzhou’s curious eyes in the corner. The eyes hidden behind the lenses instantly smiled, as he said, “You’ve come.”
No longer was he the second place holder of the School Heartthrob, right now, a graceful mature man stood in his visage. He had become the youngest associate professor in the Medical University, and he will never be fooled into the stage for the mere prize of a box of sunscreen sprays. It was only that beautiful face that hardly had any change.
“Senior.” He was simply curious, and walked over to watch the excitement, but right now, Xia Yuzhou became a bit silly with the events that had transpired.
When the woman saw He Yu turned his head to look away, she went into the room and sat by the side of the bed. She took the young man’s hand while saying to the camera, “His situation is getting worse these days. The Affiliated Hospital of Medical University is already the highest medical level in the country, and still, they cannot find a cure for him. Look at him, his complexion is so bad that I dare not even have a look.”
As soon as the woman said this, she began shedding tears. She lifted up the young man’s medical gown’s sleeves for the camera to capture the arms that were full of bruises.
“Stop filming!” Chen Mo struggled not to be photographed, but his mother’s firm hold prevented him from moving away, as she rolled up his sleeves in the end.
“You child, why are you so disobedient? Let the audience see your…” The last few words were stuck on her throat, as she suddenly couldn’t say it.
The arms that should have been dotted with blue and purple bruises were now gone, replaced with fair and smooth unblemished skin.
