Lin Yifan stood there in a daze, took out his phone, and glanced at the time.
The plot world had passed twenty-one hours and thirty-seven minutes, while the time in the plot world was around six in the evening.
Sweat broke out on his forehead; he hadn't expected that twenty hours would pass just like that after he returned and entered this world again.
And he was about to face the worst outcome: facing Sadako alone!
Biting his thumb, Lin Yifan asked, "Kawaguchi-kun, where is your home?"
"It's in the new district, very close."
The journalist, Saito, quickly added, "Kawaguchi-kun's family is well-off; he is the eldest son of our president."
"I didn't ask about his family, just to understand where we're going. If it's there, it might be more troublesome." Lin Yifan cast his gaze toward the old district, where the yin energy was very strong.
The car turned a corner, and the old district disappeared from Lin Yifan's sight, replaced by a small but beautiful Western-style house.
"Mr. Lin, please come in!" Saito opened the car door and said respectfully.
Lin Yifan felt a bit nervous; he was no expert and had been chased by Sadako.
But he still steeled himself and followed the two into the house. They passed through the courtyard, and Kawaguchi, who was worried, opened the door and hesitated to enter.
Feeling the handcuffs at his waist, he thought that as long as he could handcuff Sadako, it would be fine. But it was easier said than done; her glare was very hard to deal with.
He tightly gripped the handcuffs and held a talisman in his other hand as he entered the house.
"Turn on the lights."
Lin Yifan walked in front, and the indoor lighting was not very good.
He quickly scanned the room; he couldn't be sure if Sadako would appear before sunset, but he had to take some necessary precautions.
"Kawaguchi-kun, bring the TV from your room over here."
"Okay!"
Kawaguchi struggled to move the TV, not knowing what Lin Yifan was up to, but obediently followed his instructions.
He placed the TV from the room next to the one in the living room, screens facing each other. This was a spur-of-the-moment idea by Lin Yifan.
"Mr. Lin, what...?" Saito and Kawaguchi were both confused by what Lin Yifan was doing.
"Nothing, just to prevent any accidents." Lin Yifan's words left the two men puzzled, but they nodded along.
Lin Yifan put down his backpack and, to his surprise, found something extra inside.
"Hmm?"
He took out a handgun, recognizing it as Liang Dong's revolver! There was also a life-saving talisman and three revolver cylinders in the backpack.
Strange, how did Liang Dong's things end up in his backpack? But thinking about it, the guy was locked in his prison, so his belongings were naturally confiscated.
"Gun?" Saito was startled and sat up.
"Nothing, it's loaded with exorcism bullets." Lin Yifan took out a bullet covered in runes and showed it to the two men.
Kawaguchi excitedly leaned in, looking admiringly. "Mr. Lin, can you save me? After this, I'll give you whatever you want; my father is rich."
"Kawaguchi-kun, don't exaggerate. But the president can still afford a few million yen."
Lin Yifan wasn't sure about the exchange rate between yen and RMB at that time, but to him, these were just pieces of paper, useless in the Infinite City.
Waving his hands, he said, "I don't need it. Where is the video tape?"
"Oh! Let me check." Kawaguchi started rummaging through the drawers, pulling out a bunch of video tapes, looking for the cursed one.
Lin Yifan accidentally picked up a tape labeled "Detective Conan."
"Huh, Mr. Lin, have you seen it?" The sharp-eyed Saito noticed Lin Yifan's reaction.
Playing with the tape, Lin Yifan thought about the elementary school detective who started in 1996, never expecting to see him in a horror world.
Kawaguchi, who was still rummaging, said, "Mr. Lin, if you like it, you can take it. We recorded it when we watched it last time."
Lin Yifan didn't say much, thinking it would be nice to take a souvenir back.
"Strange, my tape should be at home." Kawaguchi scratched his head, feeling a bit more at ease with Lin Yifan around.
"You always lose things. Go check upstairs," Saito said with a bitter smile, having no idea what to do with this junior from the president's family.
"I'll go with you, just in case." Lin Yifan picked up the small handgun and handed the revolver to Saito.
The two nodded, and Lin Yifan followed Kawaguchi upstairs.
The sky was gradually darkening, the darkness slowly eroding the twilight.
As soon as Lin Yifan and Kawaguchi went upstairs, they saw a crow fly by the window, a very ominous sign.
Kawaguchi continued to rummage, and after a long search, he said apologetically, "Mr. Lin, let me check my collection. Please don't laugh."
Lin Yifan nodded seriously, "I won't."
Though a bit embarrassed, Kawaguchi pulled out his collection from under the bed. Seeing the manga books like "Dragon Ball" on top, Lin Yifan didn't pay much attention.
But the real surprise was underneath. When Kawaguchi took out the manga books, a variety of video tapes were revealed, ranging from different ages and tastes, a veritable smorgasbord.
Lin Yifan coughed and looked away. If it weren't for the others, he might have been tempted to watch some of those vintage adult films in this horror world.
Back then, Aki Sato hadn't debuted, and Sora Aoi was still a naive girl.
After a long search, Kawaguchi scratched his head in confusion, "Strange, the tape was definitely at home."
At this moment, Lin Yifan quietly took out the tape from his backpack. Was this the reward item for the mission, not a replica?
Ding dong!
A sudden doorbell made Lin Yifan's face stiffen, "Did it come from Saito's side?"
Lin Yifan rushed downstairs, gun in hand, aiming at the source of the sound.
"Eh?" Saito looked at Lin Yifan, puzzled.
"Phew, scared me. Who called?" Lin Yifan relaxed and put down his gun, feeling uneasy.
Saito shook his head, "I don't know who called. There was no sound after I answered."
"Bad!"
Lin Yifan and Saito rushed upstairs, pushing open Kawaguchi's room door. They saw Kawaguchi lying among the video tapes, eyes rolled back, mouth wide open, and body stiff.
"There's a TV in the room, damn it!" Lin Yifan aimed his gun at the TV, which was flashing white, and fired, shattering the screen.
Lin Yifan panted heavily, while Saito, terrified, collapsed against the door.
Ding dong! Ding dong!
The phone rang downstairs, the sky darkening as the last light of the day disappeared.
Lin Yifan's eyes twitched, and he immediately hung the life-saving talisman around his neck, looking around warily.
He checked Kawaguchi and found his heart had stopped, just like in the movie, with a terrified expression frozen on his face.
"Mr. Lin... I... I..." Saito, staring at Kawaguchi's body, was too scared to speak.
Without a word, Lin Yifan took the car keys from Kawaguchi and threw them to Saito, "Let's go! Do you know the nearest temple?"
"I... I do!"
"Lead the way, let's run!" Lin Yifan pulled Saito, and they hurriedly went downstairs, the ringing of the phone echoing in their ears.
As soon as they got downstairs, the lights in the living room started flickering, and the two TVs turned on.
"Her!"
Lin Yifan held Saito, who was scared stiff, and aimed his gun at the TVs.
Sadako crawled out of one TV and into the other, repeating the process several times.
"Huh? Sadako can't come out?" Saito, who had been terrified, suddenly felt relieved.
Placing the two TVs side by side was a creative idea by Lin Yifan, a joke that had been popular online, but it actually worked!
However, if it could really trap Sadako, it would be underestimating her intelligence.
Soon, the two TVs in the living room turned off, making Lin Yifan feel a chill.
Bang bang bang!
The sudden sound of someone knocking on the glass was terrifying in the deathly silent room.
The two men turned their heads and saw a ghostly face pressed against the window of the adjacent room.
Lin Yifan fired his gun, emptying the magazine, and shouted, "Let's go!"
The bullets hit Sadako, causing white smoke to rise, but did little damage. They were effective against ordinary spirits but not against a powerful one like Sadako.
She let out a painful howl and a series of cold laughs, crawling out of the window in a strange way toward Lin Yifan and Saito.
Saito, panicking, pushed open the door and shouted, "Mr. Lin!"
Lin Yifan fired his last bullet and threw the gun at Sadako.
"Hehe... hehehe." Sadako laughed maniacally as she chased Lin Yifan.
Seeing Sadako getting closer, Lin Yifan suddenly turned and lunged at her, surprising her.
"Here, for you!" He stuffed a yellow talisman into her mouth and turned to run to the car.
Sadako, pulling the talisman out of her mouth, let out an angry howl.
"Mr. Saito, I'll drive!"
Lin Yifan sat in the driver's seat, made a quick U-turn, and sped away from Kawaguchi's house.
Driving, Lin Yifan kept an eye on the rearview mirror. Sadako stood at the door, motionless, seemingly giving up the chase.
Saito, in the passenger seat, panted heavily, looking back and saying, "We... we're saved. Mr. Lin, your driving skills are really good."
Lin Yifan, tense, didn't say much. He had played a lot of uncredited roles as a driver in police dramas before.
"Lead the way, where is the temple?" He didn't want to stay in this unsafe place, where TVs were everywhere!
Seeing Saito staring at him, he asked, "What?"
"Mr. Lin, your..."
Following Saito's gaze, he saw the life-saving talisman on his chest burning.
