Lin Yifan took a deep breath to stay calm, snatched the revolver from Shindou's hand, and looked around.
In the side mirror, a terrifying eyeball in a head of black hair was staring at him.
"Damn you!" Lin Yifan cursed, thinking that he had assumed that staying away from the TV would be enough, but he had almost forgotten that Sadako had once killed a couple in a car. It seemed he had been too naive!
With one hand on the steering wheel, Lin Yifan, in a life-or-death situation, didn't care that he was on a busy road and aimed the gun at the side mirror!
Bang!
The glass shattered, and the entire side mirror was blown off. The vehicles on the road immediately fell into chaos due to the gunshot.
Several cars collided head-on in front of him, and Lin Yifan almost crashed into them. He quickly turned the steering wheel and performed a high-speed drift, leaving several black tire marks on the road.
The car scraped against several other cars that had collided, but fortunately, Lin Yifan's control was good, and he didn't crash into them.
Before he could catch his breath, a ghostly hand reached out from the rearview mirror. Without a word, Lin Yifan pulled out a yellow talisman and forcefully pressed the ghostly hand back, then immediately smashed the rearview mirror with his gun.
The broken glass shards fell, and Shindou, who was huddled in a ball, trembled in fear, too scared to speak.
After doing all this, the car had already entered a bustling street. Lin Yifan glanced at the talisman on his chest, which had stopped burning, and relaxed, driving the car back on track. He hoped no one had called the police; otherwise, he would have to face the Japanese police.
Once the car was safely on the road and mixed in with the traffic, Lin Yifan finally breathed a sigh of relief. Sadako seemed to have given up, and the talisman on his chest was no longer burning.
The scene had been too intense, and his chest was heaving as if his heart would burst through his chest. Coming to his senses, sweat trickled down his face and gathered into droplets on his chin.
He took a long breath, wiped the sweat from his face, and said, "We should be... safe for now..."
When Lin Yifan looked at Shindou, her mouth was wide open, and bloodstains ran from her neck to her collarbone.
"Uh... Ah... Lin..." Shindou's words were cut off as a ghostly hand pierced through her neck, blood spurting from her wound, instantly staining Lin Yifan's face red.
Frightened, but suppressing his panic, Lin Yifan slammed on the brakes, pulled out the revolver, and fired at the side mirror. Sadako's scream echoed as the mirror shattered, and the ghostly hand was severed and left on Shindou's neck.
The severed ghostly hand, after a few seconds of disconnection from Sadako, turned into specks of light and disappeared, leaving only the bloodstain on Shindou's neck.
Seeing Shindou's face frozen in her final expression, Lin Yifan's face darkened. He drove the car to a small alley in silence, took Shindou's wallet, opened the car door, and pushed her body out.
"Phew." He checked the surroundings to ensure there were no mirrors in the car before closing the door.
Inside the car, Lin Yifan gripped the steering wheel tightly, his face expressionless as he stared into the dim distance. After a while, he lit a cigarette.
The smoke filled the car, and he took deep puffs, feeling the pain in his lungs, a masochistic pleasure that reminded him he was still alive.
After finishing the cigarette, Lin Yifan wiped the blood from his face with a cloth, almost tearing his skin in the process, and angrily threw the blood-soaked cloth away.
"Is this ever going to end!" He shouted at the videotape, gradually calming down.
He lowered his head and took two bullets from the revolver's cylinder, rolling it with a "click" and sliding it back into place.
His mood gradually calmed, and Lin Yifan realized that staying here any longer would mean certain death, but he didn't know where to go.
"Right, this phone number?" Lin Yifan took out the business card from his pocket. The two strange backpackers he had met on the train earlier hadn't caught his attention at the time. Now, thinking about it, their tone of voice seemed to suggest they knew something.
Just as Lin Yifan was about to drive out and find a phone booth, four police officers appeared at both ends of the alley.
"Stop!" one of them shouted.
"Come out, hands up, or we'll shoot!"
Lin Yifan's face darkened. Such bad luck. He could only blame himself for being too conspicuous on the street, but it had been necessary.
He slowly opened the car door and raised his hands. The four police officers with guns immediately surrounded him. One of them checked Shindou's body: "Sir, the victim's wound is strange, not a gunshot wound."
"Don't touch the body, wait for the forensic team. Take this man back first."
Lin Yifan raised his hands helplessly. If he were taken to jail, the police would likely find his body the next day, a terrifying sight.
He wanted to find an opportunity, but there were people in front and behind. He might be able to take out the two in front, but he had no chance to turn and shoot.
Feeling frustrated and passive, Lin Yifan was deep in thought about how to escape when—
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Intense gunshots rang out, and the nearby crowd scattered in fear. Two of the police officers outside were shot and fell to the ground, and the other two cowered behind the car.
Seeing this, Lin Yifan pulled out the revolver and fired several shots at the two Japanese police officers, finishing them off. A sports car screeched to a stop at the alley entrance.
"Newbie, get in the car!" Yao Ling called from the passenger seat.
Lin Yifan ran and jumped into the car, and Yao Ling raised an eyebrow. "Pretty cool."
Sitting in the car, Lin Yifan wiped the blood from his face, his messy hair shaking. "Who cares if it's cool, speed and practicality are what matter. Drive!"
Liu Ming immediately started the car and sped down the street, with a swarm of annoying flies (police) quickly chasing them, sirens blaring.
"What do we do to shake them off?" Liu Ming asked, seeing the approaching police cars, feeling nervous.
Lin Yifan pulled out the revolver and smiled coldly. "Don't worry, they won't dare shoot in such a crowded street. You know what to do."
Yao Ling's eyes lit up. "They won't shoot, but we will."
"Right, but first, let's cover the rearview mirror. I almost got caught by it." Lin Yifan, still uneasy, stuck a yellow talisman on the mirror.
After doing this, Lin Yifan leaned out of the window and aimed his gun at the pursuing police cars.
"What!" The police were shocked to see Lin Yifan leaning out of the window.
Several bullets flew straight at the driver's seat, shattering the glass and spraying blood. The hit car swerved and crashed into a tree by the roadside.
"Hey, newbie, use this for some real power!" Yao Ling tossed a shotgun to Lin Yifan.
Without a word, Lin Yifan took the shotgun and aimed at the cars that were trying to ram them.
Flames erupted, and the white smoke from the gun quickly dissipated in the wind. The pursuing police cars immediately swerved, clearly terrified.
"Side!"
Just as Yao Ling warned, Lin Yifan had already aimed at the police car coming from the other direction, trying to stop the sports car.
Lin Yifan squinted and aimed, and Yao Ling couldn't help but say, "Shoot, they're about to hit us!"
Lin Yifan remained calm, sitting there and aiming. He didn't pull the trigger until the car was less than ten meters away.
The shotgun's bullets sprayed out, and the spread of the shot hit one of the police car's tires. With a loud bang, the tire exploded, and the car flipped and flew into the air, narrowly missing the sports car.
With a loud crash, Yao Ling and Liu Ming watched the police car land on the road, their faces pale.
"Are you crazy!" Yao Ling snatched the shotgun from Lin Yifan, still shaken.
Liu Ming's face was also pale. They both knew Lin Yifan had done it on purpose.
"It's nothing. If we don't give those flies a strong dose, they won't stop chasing us." Lin Yifan leaned back in his seat, relaxing. The scene had been like a Hollywood blockbuster.
Yao Ling, though angry, suppressed her anger and calmed down. There were too many mysteries about Lin Yifan, making her unsure of him.
"Playing a police chase in a horror movie, I'm speechless." Lin Yifan finally relaxed after finding his teammates.
Yao Ling snorted, clearly dissatisfied. "That's your own fault."
"If I didn't do that, do you think those flies would leave us alone?" Lin Yifan pointed behind them; the police cars had indeed stopped following.
Yao Ling was speechless but retorted, "Maybe they called for backup?"
Lin Yifan shrugged, a rare smile on his face. "That's unlikely, but I did drive them away, didn't I? I've always wanted to try that move from a movie, and today it came true."
"Crazy." Yao Ling and Liu Ming muttered.
Liu Ming, who was driving, spoke up. "What about Liang Dong?"
"Liang Dong? Oh, he's dead." Lin Yifan said casually.
Liu Ming frowned. "Then you'll have to be careful when you return to Infinite City."
"What?"
Yao Ling didn't give Lin Yifan a chance to ask. "Whether you can return is one thing, but you need to explain why you disappeared from the list, newbie."
Yao Ling showed her phone, and Lin Yifan saw three names on the screen, understanding why they were looking at him.
He immediately feigned confusion. "What? I disappeared? I don't know. After Liang Dong died, I escaped from the yard and followed a journalist, eating and drinking with him while looking for you."
Yao Ling's eyes showed suspicion, but Lin Yifan, being an actor, showed no signs of lying.
"Alright, let's change the topic. We have no idea how to deal with Sadako." Yao Ling gave up, feeling that she wouldn't get anything out of him.
At this point, Lin Yifan took out the business card and pointed to the phone number. "Don't you think we should change our approach? Just because we can't do it doesn't mean no one in this world can."
