Chapter 14

Because it was still early, there weren't many cars on the road. Ferren quickly drove his Ferrari 550 out of Shallow Water Bay Road and entered Happy Valley, the southern part of Wan Chai.
Hong Kong's financial sector is very developed, with numerous commercial banks and countless ATMs. Happy Valley, which has to reroute traffic for horse races, has branches of various banks. Therefore, every morning, many armored cars (commonly known as "sealed cans") enter this area. Ferren encountered several of them on his way.
When the car turned into Kwong King Street (①), as it was a one-way road, Ferren had to reduce his speed to below 30 km/h. Just as he was complaining, a loud "boom" came from a few dozen meters ahead, startling him.
Having heard the same explosion sound countless times in the cycle space, Ferren instantly identified the source of the loud noise: "This is... C4?"
Without hesitation, Ferren parked his car by the roadside, turned his back to the buildings, and quietly approached to see what was happening. Based on his judgment, there were many banks on Kwong King Street, and since C4 was used, it was highly likely that a bank robbery was taking place.
Fortunately, it was still early, and most of the shops hadn't opened, with few pedestrians around, which saved Ferren from more trouble.
Approaching the explosion site, he heard the alarm bells ringing outside the bank. Ferren quickly pressed himself against the wall, or rather, the door, as his back touched the alloy gate of a shop. Using the slightly protruding partition walls between shops as cover, he used a quick peek method, sticking his head out and immediately pulling it back, already having a clear view of the scene.
It turned out that the explosion was not aimed at the bank but at the armored car. Two masked robbers were applying C4 to the upside-down armored car door. Another four robbers, armed with AK47s, exchanged signals and split into two groups, each heading to the middle of the road at the front and back of the armored car to keep watch.
The robbers' formation was flawless, and there was no need for a central coordinator. However, they never expected that Ferren had sneaked up to them without being noticed.
Ferren was well aware of his current situation. Two robbers were walking toward the middle of the road, ostensibly to block the one-way traffic to facilitate the robbery. However, once they stood in the middle of the road, it would be almost impossible not to spot him, and at that moment, he would undoubtedly be exposed to their gunfire.
Ferren did not think his body, which was several times stronger than an ordinary person's, could withstand an AK. Therefore, he had to take action. The only good news was that the Happy Valley Police Station was only a few minutes away, and the colleagues there should arrive soon.
Taking advantage of the moment when the two robbers had just started walking diagonally into the road, leaving a blind spot, Ferren crouched and quickly moved toward the armored car. At the same time, he reached into his pocket and pinched several large nails between his fingers.
"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!"
"Rat-tat-tat-tat..."
As Ferren threw the nails, one of the robbers heading to the middle of the road unfortunately turned his head, and his peripheral vision caught a glimpse of the stealthy Ferren. He immediately opened fire with his AK, shooting at him.
Fortunately, Ferren's combat instincts were deeply ingrained. As soon as the AK's spring mechanism sounded, he lunged forward, hiding behind the armored car. At the same time, the two robbers installing the C4 each received a nail in their necks, causing them to faint. The two robbers guarding the other side of the armored car also received nails in their necks, pinning them in place, unable to move.
Ferren, who had hidden behind the car, did not idle. He quickly removed the detonator from the C4 and grabbed the AK from one of the robbers, holding it in his hands. Unfortunately, the "rat-tat-tat-tat" gunfire did not stop, pinning him down and preventing him from raising his head.
"Click, click!"
Suddenly, the sound of a gun being cocked came from inside the bank's glass door. Ferren, who was about to return fire at the two robbers on the road, stiffened, and without thinking, he pulled the unconscious robber in front of him as a shield.
"Bang! Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat..."
The intense gunfire shattered the glass door, spewing out from the bank, enveloping Ferren in a tight, impenetrable net.
"Thud, thud, thud, thud, thud!"
Countless bullets instantly turned the robber used as a shield into a sieve, and some of the bullets even penetrated his body, shooting toward Ferren. Ferren had to use the butt of his gun to block them. Based on the firepower, he instantly judged that there were three more robbers inside the bank.
"Damn!"
Ferren's anger flared, and he cursed under his breath. His inner fury suddenly surged, as using a human shield was already a violation of police regulations.
"This is your fault!" Ferren's lips curled into a sinister smile, and he used his foot to lift another robber, adding another layer of human shield.
With two layers of human shields, the AK bullets were no longer as easily penetrating. Seizing this opportunity, Ferren, with his superhuman wrist strength, extended his AK out from behind the human shields, aiming at the bank's entrance. Using only sound to determine the position, he fired a few shots.
"Rat, rat, rat!"
After three short bursts, the firepower inside the bank was significantly reduced. Ferren cursed, "F*ck!" because he only heard two bullets hit flesh. This was not the worst part; the worst was that the gunfire from inside the bank was getting farther away, indicating that the remaining robbers had retreated into the inner rooms, either to hold hostages or to fortify their position.
At the same time, the two robbers on the road had already approached the rear of the armored car, stepping onto the sidewalk, flanking Ferren.
Without hesitation, Ferren dragged a bloodied human shield to the rear of the car, while he himself quickly dashed to the front, facing the robber pinned in place by the nail.
"Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat..."
Another series of gunshots not only knocked down the two human shields Ferren had left behind but also turned the back of the pinned robber into a sieve. Fortunately, the nails Ferren had shot into the robbers' pressure points were magical, and even though they were dead, they remained standing.
However, the two robbers pursuing Ferren were not fools. Seeing his strange movements and how he quickly dispatched several of their comrades, they became wary and decided to retreat. One of them shouted into the bank, "Six, Eight, Nine, speak!" while the other continued to fire sporadically at Ferren.
Hearing the shout, Ferren knew it was bad. The surviving robber inside the bank would likely take the staff hostage. If that happened, according to police regulations, the safety of the hostages would be the top priority, and he would be constrained.
What troubled Ferren even more was that if the robbers escaped or were captured by the approaching colleagues, his use of a human shield would be exposed.
Given this, Ferren had to take the initiative to attack. Of course, he wouldn't foolishly jump out, as that would expose him to the crossfire of two AKs. Instead, he used a move he had learned from a movie and successfully executed multiple times in the cycle space—throwing the gun.
The principle of throwing the gun can be explained by Newton's laws of motion and Bernoulli's principle. In simple terms, it involves applying a lateral force in the vertical direction of the bullet's trajectory, causing the bullet to curve.
Ferren had calculated that if the target was 20 meters away and the gun had a firing speed of 420 meters per second, to hit the target by bypassing a 40 cm wide person, the throwing speed needed to be only 8 meters per second, provided the shot was taken at the right moment.
Unfortunately, Ferren did not have a pistol, and even if he did, he couldn't use it before reporting to the police station. He could only use the AK, but the problem was that the distance to the two robbers was not 20 meters but 10 meters, and the initial velocity of the AK47 was 710 meters per second. Therefore, the bullet would reach the target in about 0.014 seconds, requiring the throwing speed to increase from 8 meters per second to 28.6 meters per second.
Ferren could execute this speed, but he was sure it would strain his wrist, and the extent of the injury was uncertain.
However, with the situation as it was, Ferren had no choice but to act. He gave a sinister smile to the other pinned robber, took a few steps back, and caught a glimpse of the gun barrels of the two robbers at the rear of the car. He then suddenly flicked his wrist and fired.
At this moment, the last surviving robber inside the bank shouted to the street, "Brother Five, I have three hostages here. Even if the police arrive, I'm not afraid. But Eight and Nine are dead, and I want that guy to pay!"
"Rat, rat, rat, rat!"
In response, a few shots with a strange trajectory were fired, and the two robbers at the rear of the car fell, including Brother Five.
"Hisss—"
After throwing the gun, Ferren's right wrist stung, feeling hot and fiery. It seemed that the 28.6 meters per second speed was not much beyond his limit.
"Damn you!" The robber Six in the bank clearly saw his comrades fall in a pool of blood. "You're not a cop, so why are you meddling?"
"Sorry, I am a cop, I just forgot to mention it... Rat-rat!" Accompanying these words, two bullets flew into the bank, one hitting Six in the left face and the other in the center of his forehead.
"Ugh—"
Blood splattered on the head of a bank clerk, who was shorter than Six by half a head, causing her to scream in terror.
Ferren, however, had no time to care about her. Instead, he went to the armored car, opened the already loose door, and checked the pulse of the cashiers and the driver inside, confirming they were unconscious. He breathed a sigh of relief. If they were awake, they might easily have noticed his use of a human shield.
However, the most fortunate thing for Ferren was that there were no cameras outside the bank, and although there were cameras on the opposite street, the armored car blocked the view, so they likely wouldn't capture his use of the robbers as human shields.
As for the last robber killed by his comrades, it could be considered an accidental injury during Ferren's move to the front of the car. Of course, there was still one robber alive, and Ferren was considering whether to eliminate him.
At this moment, the sound of police sirens could be heard from the street corner. Ferren made his decision, planning to let the last pinned robber die naturally.
