Chapter 4

9 min read2,260 words

A certain teenager was holding his chest, moving with cautiousness.

If someone said that he likes men, he would have no problem admitting to it. But if he accidentally spoke with wrong choice of words and everyone mistook it thinking that he was hitting on their major general, he really didn’t want to admit to it anymore ah!

Because of this he was faced with the tragic consequence of the crews and soldiers of entire battleship feeling that he was trying to lure in their major general. Many people whispered at the sight of him. Their eyes looked at him with disdain, sympathy, ridicule, snickers, and many more. Especially that blue-haired lieutenant, the way his eyes stared almost seemed to stab daggers at him, wanting him dead. It was not my intention to desecrate your major general! God knows how Miao Te really wanted to scream this sentence at this lieutenant who seem to identify him every time as, ‘you’re the sinful person who desecrated my noble major general, the bold guy’.

… If you want to put the blame on someone, blame your major general’s shocking snow white face with beautiful starry sky eyes. After all, looking at beautiful things can make a person lower their guard, am I right? Because although he likes cute girls, he can’t deny that he also likes beautiful things. Of course, it was the kind of pure, untainted like. The teenager would never admit that he was so stupid as to be a person who is a face-con.1 Seriously, that major general’s eyes are really beautiful, just like the deep and mysterious starry sky, when you watch intently it feels like it’s drawing you in…

Wait, thinking back, that guy just said that he was still young… In other words, even the major general himself might have misunderstood. Oh fvck, no wonder that person stared at him with such strange eyes. That person tossing himself a “you’re still young”, was probably him refusing euphemistically.

Ah. Ah…The teenager covered his chest in relief. Fortunately, it’s a good thing the Lord Major General played it safe in public so he was not sneered at and kicked instantly off of the platform.

But he didn’t know why that super cold major general pardoned him at that time. Maybe it’s because it’s just like what the man said, “You’re still young”? After all, the blonde female soldier has mentioned that the Empire now has increased it protective measures when it comes to minors because the fertility rate is too low. And Miao Te, who was an adult in his own era, was now thrown out of his high horse and was currently tagged with being a ‘minor’.

The brown-haired boy was sitting on a metal chair, his thoughts still in a mess, when something was suddenly passed to him. He fixed his eyes on a white headset. Why did you give me a headset? To listen to songs? Miao Te thought as he looked up to the young soldier who gave him the headset, while also confusedly taking it. It was a pure white headset. Its two semi-circular earmuffs that felt like soft leather were attached to a white metal frame.

After tens of thousands of years, why does this headset still look the same as before and has not evolved?

The above thoughts disappeared as soon as Miao Te put on the headset. After wearing the seemingly ordinary white headset, the earmuffs that looked like soft leather suddenly melted like flowing water, automatically adjusting to the shape of his ears and wrapping around it tightly. The part of the earmuffs that was against his skin fits exactly to the arc of his cheek and the arc of his earlobes, it made him feel like there’s a ball of warm water surrounding his ears. Shallow pure music came from the earmuffs, soft and gentle, making him somehow sleepy. Unconsciously, he could no longer keep his eyes open until it slowly closed. He lay on the metal chair with his eyes closed and fell into deep sleep.

“The brain waves have fallen into tK300 frequency, confirming that the user has entered the hypnotic state.” The soldier on the side reported as they were typing.

A huge hologram floated in the air, a pure white screen glowed with light inside. The young major general sitting on the commander’s seat nodded slightly, the velvety black hair tips scattering slightly along his narrow phoenix eyes along with his nod.

Then he said, “Start the test.”

In order to prevent infiltration of spies, any newly recruited soldier must undergo a hypnosis test. Through this hypnosis, the subconscious mind of the test subject is scanned; and while answering the questions, all the thoughts in the test subject’s mind will solidify into a picture and will be flashed through the screen.

Although he knew that youth was a person from the Uriel family which had very clear intentions, Taylor does not intend to use his privileges to allow the youth to skip this step. With that in mind, he did not place much importance to this simple hypnosis test. He just gave commands accordingly and focused his attention on another hologram that was suspended in front of him. This hologram showed the war taking place in another galaxy.

…

………… Miao Te doesn’t know what this situation is. He was certainly not awake because he was sure that his body was still asleep; but confusingly albeit he was asleep, his consciousness was still very clear.

Still in a daze, a voice came over. “Tell me your name.” The voice sounded very kind, gentle, and tempting; one could not help but want to trust the owner of the voice. So he answered subconsciously. “Miao Te.”

“Where are you now?”

“… A capable major general … on his battleship.” When the youth’s subconscious response was presented, a face appeared on the huge hologram suspended in the air.

The blue-haired lieutenant’s face that was responsible for monitoring instantly turned grave. He glanced darkly at the unscrupulous guy who had spoken to his boss several times, but the other side was still undergoing hypnosis and could not see his ugly expression at all.

The red-haired major had his head down once again, and although you could not see his expression, you could see his arms resting on the operation platform with his shoulders shaking; he obviously couldn’t hold back his laughs.

The soldier in charge of the hypnosis test can’t help but stiffly glance at the Lord Major General, feeling that his heart was about to be frightened to a stop. Fortunately, the major general’s inky-dark blue pupils were intently focused on the war situation in another galaxy and have not seen what just happened. The young soldier breathed a sigh of relief and quickly changed the picture.

………………

In Miao Te’s subconscious, the questions continued.

“Where are your loved ones?”

“… Relatives … Grandfather … he died.”

“You’ve been living with him until then?”

“……Yes.”

“Do you remember your parents?”

“………” Miao Te hesitated. He didn’t know he was being hypnotized, but his consciousness was clear as ever. He remembered that he came from the Earth of tens of thousands of years ago and he has to keep it a secret from everyone. The old man thought that his memory loss was the best cover for him.

“……Can’t remember.”

“What happened a month ago?”

“……Can’t remember.”

“What were you and your grandfather doing six months ago?”

“Don’t remember……”

………………

Outside, as the answers emerged in the mind of the test subject, what he was thinking were constantly being flashed on the huge hologram in real time. When Miao Te thought of his grandfather, the face of the old man from the Uriel family appeared on the hologram. When it came to his parents and everything that happened more than a month ago, the hologram was blank, which means that the test subject has no memory of that time and so there was nothing in his mind.

The blue-haired lieutenant nodded. It was consistent with the information he received. The last descendant of the Uriel family has lost his memories due to an accident more than a month ago. Even the loss of both language and basic knowledge of day to day living were slowly restored under the patient guidance of his grandfather. He recalled the information and continued to watch the hologram. The test continued.

…………

“What is your birth planet?”

“… the birth … planet?”

“That is to say, which planet is your mother star?”

“My … mother star …”

Almost instinctively, Miao Te remembered the appearance of that planet. During these past few days of travelling through space, he has seen a lot of magnificent scenery along the universe. But for him, the most beautiful scenery that he will never forget is still that one planet.

【Earth】

My mother star, Earth.

…………

In real time outside, the vision that the youth thought of at this moment slowly emerged from the huge semi-curved hologram.

It was in the middle of an endless universe glittered with stars. An azure planet slowly orbits along this dark starry universe. In this deep and cold cosmic sky, that touch of azure glowed with a soft luster and emitted warmth. It can’t be denied that it was that one of a kind extreme beauty that even if it’s just right there, orbiting quietly, its color blue was like soft water enveloping you who were staring, in its warmth.

A sound of glass breaking rang out. A certain red-haired man’s glass cup shattered as it met with the metal floor. The young major general was disturbed by this crisp noise and he frowned as he moved his eyes away from the star map in front of him to his subordinates.

Taylor saw a soldier who always had a serious appearance looking dumb at the moment. He stood there with his mouth slightly open and his eyes hooked in front while holding his breath. He had never seen this subordinate look so shocked to the point of his whole body being disoriented. So in order to find out the cause, he turned his head slightly and traced his subordinates’ gazes. Then he saw on the huge hologram an azure planet slowly orbiting in a dark cosmic starry sky. It was not eye-catching and its appearance wasn’t that shocking. It just lay there quietly in that dark starry sky, seemingly for thousands of years of tranquility.

At that moment, the young major general’s inky-dark blue pupil contracted and his breathing also hitched. There came an urge that seemed to shock the depths of his being. Every flesh and blood, every cell in his body and even his soul was calling out to him, eager to return to that azure planet and merge with it.

.

It was like an instinct. Even if lost for thousands of years, this instinct will always be imprinted on the soul.

Go back.

Must go back.

Back to the planet that gave birth to them.

…

Adjusting back that momentarily disordered breath, Taylor got up. Before everyone could wake up from the shock of seeing that azure planet, he walked a few steps to stand in front of the teenager who was still asleep with his eyes closed. He leaned down and as soon as he reached out, he took off the hypnotic headset worn by the teenager.

Because the hypnotic headset was abruptly taken off, the teenager woke up. He opened his eyes wide and looked in amazement at the handsome face that suddenly leaned over and looked at him almost oppressively.

“What is that?” Sharp inky-dark blue pupils stared at the youth under him. The young major general did not notice that his tone was a little hurried.

Suddenly waking up from the hypnosis, Miao Te was still in a trance as he looked up in confusion, his eyes stared wide open at that handsome face full of oppression. He couldn’t figure out what Taylor asking.

“What planet is that?” The young major general repeated.

Miao Te, in a daze, moved his gaze forward. Naturally, he saw the blue planet that was slowly orbiting on the hologram. That one? “That’s the earth.” Almost subconsciously, he gave the answer. Miao Te found it odd. Does this need to be asked? Even a three-year-old child would know at a glance.

But the answer that the teenager took for granted caused the entire hall to choke on their breath. A shocked look appeared on everyone’s face, they were all speechless causing the hall to turn terribly quiet.

The young major general straightened his upper body and he looked back again at the azure planet. His always cold eyes reflected the soft blueness, a bright color that he has never seen before.

“……Earth.” His deep, cold voice sounded like glacier shattering as he spoke but his inky-dark blue pupils, which were shimmering like stars, were emitting scorching heat like that of magma.

…

Tens of thousands of years ago, humans left the earth and started jumping from galaxy to galaxy. Due to some concerns, all of Earth’s information along with its guide maps was kept as top secret information inside a battleship with the most secure technological devices. However, after one successful transition to a new galaxy, the battleship was destroyed by some terrorists’ suicide attacks and all the information about Earth was lost along with the explosion of the battleship.

Henceforth, mankind has lost its way back to earth forever.
