Chapter 23

These days, Jian Ci had been really busy with work. The company that he was working for was developing a virtual reality game, and since his boss was pressing for time, he had to work overtime almost everyday.

In the past, when Zhou Bai returned home at eight or nine at night, he thought that it was already pretty late. Now, Jian Ci gets off work at eleven to midnight, and when he got home, Zhou Bai would have already fallen asleep. He could only take a shower and eat cautiously without making any noise.

Even though he already had his dinner, staying up till this late caused his tummy to rumble from hunger. After two sleepless nights due to hunger, he painfully learnt from his lesson and went to the supermarket to pile up on food reserves to keep in the fridge. When he returned home after midnight, he would whip something up to eat.

He usually would boil some noodles and dumplings as they required little effort and would not cause a ruckus that would disturb people. But on this day, he was subjected to “destruction”. After having just a few mouthfuls during lunch, he was called in by his boss who told him that the proposal was overthrown and needed to be done again. As for dinner, all Jian Ci had was a small piece of bread as he was entangled in an argument with the designer. Holding it in till now, his eyes were green from hunger.

With a famished stomach and a tummy full of resentment, Jian Ci wrapped on an apron and waved a spatula in his hand – I’ll have a feast today! With freshly made dishes! Freshly boiled soup! And freshly steamed rice! I’ll fully satisfy my poor little tummy!

11:33PM.

He ensured that the door to Zhou Bai’s room was sealed, and the person inside was soundly asleep. Pulling the sliding door of the kitchen shut, he filled the rice cooker with rice, took out some shrimps from the freezer to defrost, washed pieces of celtuce before chopping, boiled a pot of tomato and egg drop soup, and turned on the range hood before he started frying the dishes…

After all preparations were done, he almost released the plate in his hands when he turned around.
