Tang Huan’s right leg was wrapped with layers and layers of gauze.
When the old doctor applied the ointment on her wound, she grimaced and cried out in pain. It wasn’t an act this time; it was really painful. She acted out this horrible idea in a fit of pique because she was angry with Song Mo at the time. Now that the matter had passed, and Song Mo’s attitude towards her obviously softened, she had forgotten about the grievances and was only concerned with the pain in her leg.
The old doctor went out after he was done, and Tang Huan eavesdropped on the conversation outside.
She heard Song Mo asking if her leg injury could be completely healed. The doctor said no. There were bound to be scarring, but with a good scar removal ointment, the scar would be lighter. After a few moments of silence, she heard Song Mo say in a low voice, “Can you see which ointment I can afford with this money? Please get me the best one available.”
There was another silence. The old doctor probably went to get the ointment.
Tang Huan was a little stunned.
Before going down the mountain, Song Mo had carried her back to his house to bring his entire savings with him. Just now, did he give all of his money to the doctor, or only a portion of it?

Tang Huan started the fire at noon, and Song Mo carried her all the way down the mountain, passing through two villages before arriving in town. By the time they left the medicine hall, night had already fallen. There were very few people on the street, and the vendors were about to close their stalls.
Song Mo walked back home carrying her on his back.
“It’s so late already. Since it’s difficult to walk at night, why don’t we stay at the inn for one night?” Tang Huan asked him in a casual manner. They had quarreled all the way here. He would spank her buttocks whenever she scolded him. The seemingly angry actions actually suggested intimacy. Tang Huan was not a fool. She knew that although Song Mo hadn’t said it aloud, he had forgiven her and was willing to be with her, this bad woman. This also meant that she could act as she pleased in front of him from now on.
Without stopping in his tracks, Song Mo sneered coldly at her, “Stay at the inn? Do you think you’re the daughter of a wealthy family?”
Tang Huan curled her lips. This difficult man. They had already reconciled, but he continued to speak to her in this tone, as if only a gentle woman deserved to be treated gently, and she, a bad woman, was not worthy of tender loving care.
After Song Mo rejected the idea of staying at the inn, Tang Huan pointed to the steamed bun store at the intersection in front and shouted, “Then buy me a few buns. I’m starving!”
This time, Song Mo didn’t object and walked over to the store.
The vegetable buns were one penny each, while the meat buns cost two pennies.
The lady boss glanced at the two of them, and after a brief moment of surprise, she asked Song Mo how many vegetable and meat buns he wanted to purchase.
“You can eat the vegetable one if you want,” Tang Huan whispered in his ear, “but I want two, no, three meat buns.”
Song Mo ignored her and proceeded to buy three meat and three vegetable buns. After that, he continued to walk for a long time before coming to a halt, and, after some hesitation, handed her the paper bag in his left hand. “Three vegetable buns. I don’t care if you eat it or not.”
Tang Huan was so angry that she yanked on his ears, only to be pinched on the thigh in return. She could only hold the paper bag and eat the buns on his shoulder. The first bite contained no fillings. And her second bite was…all meat.
She secretly laughed to herself. This guy must have mixed up which side was the meat ones and which side was the vegetable ones.
Tang Huan ate it quietly without reminding him. As she was about to finish gobbling up the second bun, she smelled the aroma of the meat. In fact, the smell had been present the entire time, but she had been too hungry to notice. Tang Huan looked at the steamed buns and the side of Song Mo’s face under the dim night sky. His face was so close to hers that it was impossible that he couldn’t smell the meat buns.
He had given her the meat ones on purpose.
Tang Huan thought of something else.
Yes, he had even given her the meat buns in a roundabout way. If he was this considerate, if he could choose, wouldn’t he choose to stay at the inn instead of walking the long journey home in the dark? When he paid for the steamed buns just now, he only took out ten copper coins. That was most likely all the money he had, right?
He spent all of his savings to buy her the best scar ointment he could afford.
This man treated her really well.
Tang Huan was a little touched. After she finished eating her second bun, she sent the third meat bun to his mouth, saying, “I’m already full. You can have this. Here, let me feed you.”
Song Mo refused to eat.
“Haha, you gave me the wrong buns.” Tang Huan laughed at him. “The ones I ate were the meat buns. I initially wanted to eat them all in secret, but I thought you were too pitiful. Quickly eat it before it gets cold. Besides, you have to carry me up the mountain. If you don’t eat any meat, what should we do if you don’t have enough energy later?”
She smiled like a mouse thief who had stolen cat food and wanted to show off. Song Mo’s face was still gloomy, but his heart was filled with an inexplicable joy. As long as she stopped putting on the fake gentle act in front of him, he didn’t mind her little gloating.
She fed him all four buns.
The moment he carried her down the mountain, they both knew in their hearts that some things had changed.
