Chapter 6: A Secret Code
5 min read1,175 words
At the age of seventeen, Andrew, the distant nephew of the First Knight Buck, came to the Polabel Lord's castle ten years ago. Buck personally took him in as a squire and taught him the exclusive "Bear Strength" combat aura, and four years ago, he was promoted to a knight squire.
In the past two months, Andrew, for some unknown reason, has made rapid progress in his combat aura, advancing from the seventh level to the ninth, and is about to enter the first stage of forming a combat ring!
This phenomenon not only surprised his uncle Buck but also alarmed the Lord of the city, Baron Brian. For a time, Andrew became the star of the entire Polabel, his status rising sharply. Everyone knew that it wouldn't be long before his combat aura could form a combat ring, and he would become a squire knight, entering the noble class.
At that time, everyone would have to call him Sir Knight!
The conflict between Roy and Andrew began when Roy entered the castle as a servant.
Roy entered the lord's house half a year ago. His main job was to take care of the horses, run errands, or help with odd jobs in the kitchen and on the farm. He earned two silver taels a month.
In the castle, there were seventeen young people aged between eight and eighteen. Privately, apart from the baron's daughter, Miss Annie, Andrew was the leader among the group of young people, giving orders and acting arrogantly.
According to the rules set by Andrew, the young people in the castle who had salaries had to contribute one-third of their salaries to him each month. Those without salaries had to do tasks for him.
However, Roy didn't follow this rule.
When Andrew thought Roy was easy to bully and sent Hake to collect the tribute for the first time, Roy not only firmly refused but also shouted loudly, almost alarming the baroness.
At that time, Hake was so scared that he ran away, and Andrew didn't show up for a few days. Roy, on the other hand, wandered around the castle every day as if nothing had happened, looking happy and carefree.
Today, Baron Brian was not around, and the baroness had gone to the church early in the morning. A group of noblewomen would not return until the afternoon.
Roy knew that Andrew wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to deal with him. Perhaps he had already prepared to bear the baroness's anger. After all, no matter how big a mistake he made, the baroness, with her noble upbringing, would never treat a servant as an equal to a soon-to-be knight.
"I didn't slack off," Roy argued.
Although he wanted to punch Andrew's annoying face right now, the warning from his grandfather William echoed in his ears.
"If you don't want to kill him, don't hit him."
Roy could only feel frustrated in his heart while stepping back two steps to avoid Andrew's fierce gaze.
Roy knew his grandfather was right.
Although he had grown up hunting in the wild and was not weak in combat, at least he could take down the current Andrew. However, hitting Andrew would bring his uncle Buck, a three-star armed knight, into the picture.
A three-star armed knight was not someone he could handle.
Moreover, even if Buck didn't intervene, as long as he didn't kill Andrew, with Andrew's rapid progress in combat aura, it wouldn't be long before he could defeat him.
This was the sorrow of a child who couldn't cultivate combat aura.
"Still trying to argue!" Andrew, with his sparse blond hair, stepped forward and pushed Roy, sending him to the ground.
He barked angrily, "A guy who can't even cultivate the most basic combat aura, pretending to train in the training ground after taking care of the horses, what else could it be but slacking off!"
"Spit, even if you look for another hundred years, you'll still be a useless servant," the stocky Hake said viciously.
The commotion drew the attention of passersby, but they quickly turned away, pretending not to see anything. Even the people in the lord's house remained silent.
"Slacking off every day is one thing, but today you're hiding here to listen to stories, hey!"
As he spoke, Andrew stepped forward to grab the just-crawled-up Roy.
"Stop!" Tom's figure blocked Andrew.
"What?" Andrew, blocked, sneered and pushed Tom, "Trying to be a hero?"
Tom, pushed back a step, gritted his teeth but still stood firm in front of Andrew. Beside him, the fat dog Oliver rushed forward, baring his teeth and barking fiercely at Andrew.
"Get lost!" Andrew sneered, and with a kick, sent Oliver tumbling.
Oliver's barking abruptly stopped, and he let out a miserable "ah-woof," rolled over, and cowered on the ground, tail between his legs, trembling all over, completely losing his earlier ferocity. He whimpered pitifully, looking up at Andrew's face with a pitiful expression.
"Filthy dog, if you dare to block my way again, I'll stomp you to death!" Andrew, seemingly scolding the dog, glared fiercely at Tom's eyes.
Tom showed no fear. The fat dog, however, was so scared that it quickly groveled at Andrew's feet, exposing its white belly, lolling its tongue, and wagging its tail in a cute manner.
For a moment, everyone was speechless.
Seeing their master humiliated, the dog, instead of fighting to the death to protect him, not only didn't retaliate after being kicked but lay on the ground, acting cute and begging for mercy. This was simply... Many people were so enraged that they wanted to grab a knife and rush forward to kill the stupid dog!
"The master is a waste, and even the dog is a waste!"
Andrew and Hake laughed loudly, approaching Tom from both sides, their fingers cracking loudly.
Tom clenched his fists.
Behind him, Roy kept his head down, not daring to lift it.
It seemed that being bullied, mocked, and betrayed by the dog that should have been his most loyal protector was all part of his life.
"Ah-woof, ah-woof."
Encouraged by Andrew's laughter, Oliver whimpered, wagging his tail even more vigorously. He curled his legs, rubbing his back on the ground, and even his eyes were curved in a smile.
It was a sunny morning.
People watched the scene with bated breath.
The sinister-looking Andrew and Hake, the isolated Tom, the timid young man with his head down, and the fat dog Oliver lying on the ground, groveling, formed a heart-wrenching picture in the morning sun.
What people didn't know was that at the corner of the young man's mouth, a subtle smile was forming.
What they didn't know was that when the most cunning fat dog in the continent, with its tongue lolling, lay at the feet of a certain creature, whimpering "ah-woof, ah-woof," it actually had another meaning.
It was a secret signal to the big head, which translated simply to:
"Bite his balls?"
