Chapter 62

On the fifth day, he will have to resume working at KFC. The Jidao Climbing Gym was also opened for business. Although there were not a lot of people going to the gym, Qin Weihang would still stay at the climbing gym. Occasionally, An Ning would come back first, watching TV in the manager’s room and chatting with Uncle Luo. When he hears the roaring of the motorcycle, he would turn his head and say to Uncle Luo, “He’s back!” Then he would run to the balcony and call out to Qin Weihang.

The headlights of the motorcycle went out, and Qin Weihang carried his motorcycle helmet into the dormitory building. With familiarity, he opened the door and walked into the manager’s room, asking him: “You’re watching TV again?”

He handed Qin Weihang a piece of orange. Qin Weihang would walk over and sit next to him. The two would then chat with Uncle Luo while watching TV, as if Uncle Luo was their neighbor, and they were here to visit.

After 9 p.m, they would go upstairs together; the sound of their talking filling the corridor. When they returned to their dorm room, they would chat while washing and chat while going to bed. During the winter break, Liang Shenghan and Xiao Pang would also haunt the WeChat group from time to time. One time, Xiao Pang was frantically bombarding the screen in the group. It happened to be around 10 a.m that day when An Ning and Qin Weihang were bombed by group messages. It was no surprise that Xiao Pang was so excited, though. Their family went to an island for winter break, however, they did not expect to meet Sui Qingchi at the airport. Xiao Pang sent a bunch of photos, and surprisingly, he was at a really close distance. Even An Ning envied him and asked him: How are you so close to him?

Xiao Pang said, “It’s not like that, only the first few pictures were taken by me, and the rest are pictures posted on Weibo by fansite administrators. But oh my god, he’s really handsome in real life. He can go head-to-head with Da-ge!”

An Ning couldn’t help but look at Qin Weihang. Qin Weihang was sitting on a chair while drinking milk and scrolling on his phone, but he was obviously not on WeChat. Maybe his gaze was too obvious, because Qin Weihang looked up at him and seemed to have understood something. He also bowed his head and opened WeChat.

An Ning wanted to stop him, but it was too late. Qin Weihang saw the conversation in the WeChat group. Xiao Pang was still shouting in the WeChat group: An Ning-ge, how about you take a picture of Da-ge and send it over for me to compare!

Although it was a joke, it was too inappropriate. An Ning thought, don’t you know he is also in the group? Although he doesn’t say anything, it doesn’t mean he wouldn’t see it…

Qin Weihang looked up at him. An Ning could only chuckle and say: “He was kidding…”

Although it was lively on the other end of the phone, once he put down the phone, he would break away from those lively emotions. Sui Qingchi seemed to be a superstar from another world, and the other side of the phone was that other world. He and Qin Weihang were in this quiet small world, occasionally looking at the scenery of that bustling world.

The indescribable contentment of such days can be repeated indefinitely. An Ning even started to reflect—why do people have worries? Perhaps the biggest problem in this world was that there were too many people. If there were only a few people who needed each other, relied on each other, and grew old together, then after these people pass away happily, God will create another group of people. Thus, each and every person within the population of six billion can achieve the greatest extent of happiness.

We only need to eat and sleep well, and with a few people to accompany us, we’ll be satisfied.

In the blink of an eye, it was halfway through winter break. One morning, An Ning found that Qin Weihang had gone out earlier than him. He only left him a note: There are activities in the climbing gym today, so I’ll be leaving first. Remember to wear your contact lenses. Don’t waste my gift.

There was one sentence left below it: P.S. Happy holidays.

Holiday? What holiday?

An Ning picked up his phone and suddenly remembered what it was when he saw the date on the screen—February 14th, today was Valentine’s Day!

It was a pity that this holiday had nothing to do with this single dog. After lunch early at noon, he put on his contact lenses and rushed to KFC, ready to serve the lovers.

Valentine’s Day was not a legal holiday break, so in the afternoon, there were not many customers in KFC. It wasn’t until the evening that there was a small peak. It was already possible to order meals with phones in most restaurants, but they have not set it up yet, thus they have to rely on labor. He was so busy at the register, and because of the lack of staff, he sometimes had to go to the kitchen to help.

Sure enough, it was Valentine’s Day. This was the first time he spent Valentine’s Day at KFC. The small restaurant was almost filled with young couples, and some couples looked even younger than him. He guessed that they might be middle school students. Very occasionally, a single person would come in to order a meal, sitting in a corner and eating silently. The scene inevitably looked a little lonely.

At 8 p.m, the peak of this wave finally passed. He and his colleagues breathed a little. Then he suddenly heard a familiar exhaust sound coming from outside the restaurant. This sound was too familiar to him; Qin Weihang’s Yamaha R1 roared like this. He took a dazed look outside and was stunned—a black motorcycle really stopped on the side of the road. The rider was taking off his helmet. He was a very handsome rider; wearing a black down vest and a white turtleneck sweater. He didn’t stop under the streetlight and his face couldn’t be seen clearly, but as soon as he raised his leg and stepped on the ground, An Ning saw the white zebra pattern on the black sports pants. An Ning suddenly thought, could it be…

Qin Weihang was carrying a backpack, and a black motorcycle helmet was in one hand. When he reached the entrance of KFC, he raised his hand and rubbed his hair, then pushed the door and walked in.

An Ning even forgot to say “Welcome to KFC” and was just looking straight at him.

The heavy glass door closed behind Qin Weihang. An Ning watched Qin Weihang walking towards this side, dumbfounded. Qin Weihang walked up to him, carrying a helmet with his left hand and putting his right hand casually on the marble front counter, asking: “Still busy?”

An Ning’s eyes widened: “How did you know that I was working part-time here?”

Qin Weihang said, “I asked Liang Shenghan.” Then he looked at him again. With a little pressure and inquisition in his eyes, he asked, “How does he know that you work part-time here?”

An Ning said, “Oh, the Internet café he and Xiao Pang often go to is nearby. We ran into each other once.”

Qin Weihang scratched his finger on the edge of the ordering counter, then pursed his lips and nodded.

An Ning discovered that there was an unconscious cheek bulge after he pursed his lips. Although it disappeared quickly, it was too illegal for this handsome guy to do such a thing!

Because the floor behind the KFC ordering counter was high, it was the first time that he can see Qin Weihang with an almost leveled view (perhaps it was even slightly higher), and it was also the first time that all of Qin Weihang’s expressions can be seen in full view (previously, he could only look up and see), and he wasn’t used to it. Qin Weihang’s eyes were not only bright and deep, but perhaps it was because it was paired with the sword-like eyebrows that pressed above them, they revealed a sense of oppression that went straight into people’s hearts.

He asked Qin Weihang: “Are you going to have something to eat?”

“I’m not hungry for the time being.” Qin Weihang raised his left hand, put his black helmet on the ordering table, and half wrapped it in his arm. He looked down at his diving watch, “You get off at nine, right? I’ll wait for you.”

At the right moment, someone came in through the door; it was two girls. An Ning hurriedly raised his head and greeted them: “Welcome to KFC!”

The two girls walked to the front counter to order food, and Qin Weihang stepped aside. One girl looked up and saw Qin Weihang, then blinked hard at her companion.

While the customers were waiting for their meals, Qin Weihang did not leave either. He had his arm lying on the front counter and grabbed an acrylic card that was placed on the ordering counter to look at it. There was a person who was too eye-catching standing here, which made An Ning feel pressured. Thus, he leaned his body in Qin Weihang’s direction and called out, “Qin Weihang.”

Qin Weihang raised his head when he heard the sound, then leaned towards An Ning’s direction and tilted his ears. He had a thoughtful look of ‘I don’t know why you want to whisper, but I can cooperate’.

An Ning said, “Why don’t you find a place to sit down and wait for me.” There was still an hour left.

Qin Weihang was listening to him but did not respond. Instead, he looked at the two girls who were waiting for their meals. An Ning didn’t know what he was thinking. Then he motioned towards An Ning, and An Ning hurriedly leaned forward. Qin Weihang asked in his ear: “Why didn’t I get a ‘Welcome to KFC’ when I came in?”

An Ning looked at him dumbly, and Qin Weihang also looked at him with a serious expression. Thus, he can only say: “… I forgot.”

Qin Weihang smiled; it was a very short and charming smile. He did not leave, but said: “Will your wage get deducted if I stand here to chat with you?”

An Ning nodded silently and said: “It’s not so good.”

Qin Weihang listened to him and took the helmet off the counter. He asked: “What’s the Wi-Fi account and password?”

An Ning gave him the restaurant’s Wi-Fi information, then Qin Weihang turned and left.

He walked to the nearest booth and sat down. The KFC seats were all narrow, so it was only at the booth that Qin Weihang could sit comfortably.

That day, Qin Weihang had been sitting there patiently waiting for him to get off work, uh…well it can’t be considered very patient. He came over and ordered a hamburger halfway through, and not long after that, he ordered a bag of French fries. An Ning smiled when he came to line up for the third time, and asked, “What do you want to order this time?”

Qin Weihang said, “You decide for me.”

An Ning suggested: “Then you can drink a cup of warm orange juice.” The food he ate before was all dry.

Qin Weihang said: “No, drinking too much will make me have to go to the restroom often.”

An Ning thought for a while, then said, “I’ll order some mashed potatoes then. Our mashed potatoes are quite delicious here!”

Qin Weihang looked at the bright eyes of the other party. After putting on contact lenses, his eyes looked very clean and beautiful. As soon as he walked in, he saw that he was wearing contact lenses. In fact, he didn’t expect much, so he was really happy.

He nodded, but it wasn’t to the mashed potatoes.

When An Ning wanted to place an order for him, he hesitated and asked, “But the portion is a bit small. How about ordering two?”

Qin Weihang said, “Up to you.” So two bowls of very compacted mashed potatoes were handed to Qin Weihang. An Ning smiled and said: “Eat them while it’s still hot.”

Qin Weihang took the mashed potatoes and left. At this moment, there were no customers in line at the ordering counter. Xiao Zhao, a female colleague, leaned over and asked with surprise: “Your friend?”

An Ning smiled and nodded: “Yes, my roommate, He came to wait for me to get off of work.”

Xiao Zhao couldn’t believe it: “It’s Valentine’s Day today. He doesn’t have a girlfriend even though he’s this handsome?!”

That ‘this’ was too exaggerated, though. An Ning pursed his lips and nodded: “Yes, it’s a pity.”

Was it a pity? Not at all.

He looked in the direction of that person. Qin Weihang, please be single for two more years so that the heartbreak can come a bit later. That is, if my first love is destined to become a memory.
