Chapter 4

The power I call "Provisional Magic" consumes physical strength to control.
It's not like the magic in games, which can be used by consuming something like magic points.
So, the term "Provisional Magic" might be a misnomer.
But it's just a provisional name for now.
There's no particular problem, so I don't intend to change it for the time being...
I really want to know the official name, though.

It had been four weeks since I was reincarnated.
Every day, my "brothers" come to play, and my "mother," who used to visit every two days, now comes about twice every three days.
My "father" is still the same.
My "nursemaid" continues to take care of me every day.
The biggest change recently is that I discovered that when I gather "Provisional Magic" around my eyes and look at people, my vision improves significantly.
My vision had been gradually improving, and even without gathering "Provisional Magic" in my eyes, it had reached a level where I could distinguish people. However, with this control, I can now discern details as well.
I already knew that my eyes couldn't see at all.
Even with my eyes fully open, I can only see "Provisional Magic" in the pitch-black darkness, which appears white.
There's nothing else.
By improving my vision through "Provisional Magic," I can now discern details of things that possess it, but I can't see anything that doesn't have it.
It seems I was reincarnated with a significant handicap.
For a typical reincarnated person, they would have special powers or cheat-like abilities...
I've never heard of being reincarnated with a handicap.
How cruel is this god, really?
The silver lining is that I can recognize things with "Provisional Magic" in detail through its control.
I need to find a way to recognize things without "Provisional Magic," but I've heard that other senses develop when one has visual impairments.
Hearing, smell, or even a sixth sense?
I'm only four weeks old, so there's no need to rush.
Still, the handicap of not being able to see is a significant source of anxiety.
To avoid feeling this anxiety... to avoid feeling it, I've become absorbed in the control of "Provisional Magic."
You might think it's not much different from before, but in reality, it's different.
Even when my "brothers" and "mother" are around, I spend more than half of my consciousness on controlling "Provisional Magic."
Thanks to this, I feel my multitasking ability has improved dramatically.
In my previous life, I could only handle about two tasks simultaneously, but now I can control "Provisional Magic" while playing with my "brothers" and training to move my limbs as I please.
I don't think it's a particularly difficult process, but being able to perform three different actions simultaneously is definitely a sign of improved multitasking ability.
Of course, the ratio is about 7:1:2.

The crucial training for releasing "Provisional Magic" is, frankly, at a standstill.
First, the fatigue when releasing "Provisional Magic" outside my body is immense.
The only way to overcome this is to build up my physical strength by repeatedly practicing other controls.
Second, and this is the biggest problem, I can't separate the released "Provisional Magic" from my body.
This is the cause of the standstill.
Controlling "Provisional Magic" outside my body isn't the issue.
I've tried making a part of it as thin as possible, but no matter how thin it gets, it doesn't break.
I've also tried making it as dilute as possible, but it still doesn't break.
When I stretch it to the limit and the control becomes unstable, it always disappears from the farthest point.
When the disappearance reaches a point where the control is stable, it stops, and I can control it again.
After many trials, I concluded that using disappearance to separate it is impossible.
The only things I can think of for controlling "Provisional Magic" are stretching, changing its thickness, changing its concentration, and changing its flexibility.
Changing its flexibility means shaping "Provisional Magic" into any form I want.
Of course, this also allows me to change its hardness.
Flexibility changes are also useful for reinforcing specific areas by covering them.
By covering an area, I can create a shape with "Provisional Magic" just inside the surface of my body.
Increasing the concentration in the covered area strengthens it.
This allowed me to reinforce my eyes and improve my vision.
I tried the same with my ears, but there was no noticeable change.
If I could see, it might not have affected my normal vision, but there's no way to confirm that.
Since my eyes, which can see "Provisional Magic," have been reinforced, it's possible I might be able to hear "Provisional Magic," but I've never heard anything like that, so I don't know.
This is the state of my release training.
To be precise, it is at a standstill, but I'm continuing to work on identifying the cause.
First, if I can build up my physical strength and overcome the fatigue issue, the range of experiments will expand.
Like how I discovered reinforcement through flexibility changes, I might find a hint to solve the problem through other training.
So, I've decided to put the release training on hold for now.
Currently, I'm focusing on building up my physical strength.
And developing other training further.
Another addition is that I've started to understand some hearing.
I don't think I should speak even if I can, at least until I'm about one year old.
I remember my brother's daughter started talking around one and a half years old, and the whole family celebrated like a festival.
Of course, she could only say a few words at first, but when her vocabulary increased and she started forming short sentences, it was another festival.
When she could speak in full sentences, the celebration involved not just the family but also the neighbors.
So, I think I shouldn't speak even if I can, at least until I'm over one year old.
...I fully understand that it's like counting chickens before they hatch, given my current inability to hear properly.
