A punch came, and a drop of blood trickled from Matt Murdock's mouth. A muscular arm pushed him hard, "Shrimp, come and hit me, I'll let you hit me however you want!"
Matt, feeling both unwilling and anxious, was pushed back a few steps. The white boy and his accomplices did not stop bullying him.
The black kids cheered, "Go on, come and hit him!"
"You're just as useless as your father!"
The white boy pushed Matt again, "Come on, hit me." Matt, not bothering to wipe the blood from his mouth, defended his father, "My dad will become the champion, the champion of the boxing ring." The white boy shook his head, "No, no, your dad is a coward too." His black friends chimed in, "Yeah, a coward!"
"Come and hit me." This time, Matt was pushed to the ground and fled from the narrow, dark alley in a rather狼狈 manner. The hooligan boys laughed, "He's a piece of junk!" "A complete piece of junk!" "He doesn't dare to hit, he only knows how to run!"
"Pitiful..." Matt defined his childhood with this word, and Ymir listened silently.
In his previous life, the movie "Daredevil" which told Matt's story did not have high box office earnings, and Ymir did not remember the content of the movie very clearly.
However, he was neither Matt nor Ymir.
In his previous life, although there were no superpowers, in a relatively stable social environment, he did not experience the deep sense of powerlessness that Matt did. Perhaps, if Ymir's body was still alive, he would have a lot in common with Matt.
Matt was somewhat dazed, he came back to his senses and asked, "Ymir, where was I?"
Ymir looked at Matt and reminded him, "Mr. Matt, you were talking about your bullied childhood."
Sighing somewhat wistfully, Matt nodded, "Yes, that's right, being bullied by everyone..."
He was indeed familiar with Hell's Kitchen. In just a few steps, he led Ymir into a pool hall. In the U.S., pool halls and bars are often combined, and Ymir was not sure why Matt brought him here.
However, he did not interrupt Matt's narrative: "My dad was an underground boxing fighter. A sports journalist once wrote that his boxing skills were like those of a demon. His reputation spread far and wide, and everyone knew that 'Demon' Jack Murdock was a tough guy!"
But that was a long time ago. Since Matt was born, Jack had already left the industry he once worked in.
He became a drunk who only knew how to drink, reminiscing about his past glory in televised boxing matches. However, even when he was completely drunk, there was one thing Jack never forgot to say.
A smile appeared at the corner of Matt's mouth, and he said to Ymir, "That day, I helped him from the TV to the bed, and he noticed my injuries. He asked me, 'Are you hurt?' I pretended not to care, and he sat up, staring into my eyes and said, 'You know, I don't want you to fight.'"
"How ironic, right? My dad was once a 'demon' in the black market ring, but he didn't want his child to fight. Yes, in this Hell's Kitchen, don't fight with others."
Ymir asked curiously, "So, Mr. Matt, how did you respond?"
Matt shook his head, "It's not that I like to cause trouble, but living in Hell's Kitchen, it's just the way it is. Those kids told me that my dad never left the underground mafia, he has always been working for Fisk, one of his enforcers."
Ymir interjected, "Mr. Matt, who is Fisk?"
Matt's sunglasses reflected the dim light of the bar, pale and cold, "He's a bastard, one of the biggest bastards in Hell's Kitchen. By the way, the old Babu who caused trouble at your place today is also one of Fisk's disciples."
Ymir understood the meaning of "disciple." He knew that old Babu was being directed by someone, but he didn't expect that this person would still be called "one of the biggest bastards" by Matt.
Moreover, the fact that this "biggest bastard" and Daredevil Matt have coexisted in Hell's Kitchen for so many years without being eliminated shows how powerful this bastard is.
Ymir's intuition told him that his actions today had brought him a big trouble.
However, since Fisk had sent old Babu to cause trouble at Ymir's apartment building, unless Ymir swallowed his pride and paid the protection money, he would eventually have to face him head-on.
Although Ymir had not been reborn in this world for long, he genuinely liked his sister Kathleen, who had always taken care of him. Even if Ymir had no power, he could not tolerate anyone insulting Kathleen.
However, he still didn't know what Matt's father had said to him. Matt continued, "My father asked me to sit next to him."
Jack laughed, "If I were really working for Fisk, would I need to work overtime at the docks day and night? Do you have a brain? Focus on your studies, become a doctor or a lawyer, don't be like me..."
Although he was scolded by his father, Matt was relieved to hear that Jack was not working for Fisk. Jack added, "Matt, you can do it. As long as you have no fear in your heart, there's nothing you can't do. I want you to promise me."
While Matt was speaking, Ymir looked around. He felt that American bars were not much different from those in China. They were filled with unemployed loafers, each with hair dyed in various colors, looking as if they had accidentally spilled a cocktail on their heads.
Matt listened for a moment, then opened a snooker table in a corner, picked up a cue from the wall, and threw it to Ymir, "Come on, let's play a game."
"Uh... Mr. Matt, you're a superhero..."
Ymir took the cue, somewhat at a loss. He thought Matt was going to teach him some profound lesson or take him to a sacred place for confession, but he didn't expect to be brought to such a low-class bar to play pool.
Moreover, playing against a blind person, Ymir felt it was too much of a bully. Matt raised his head, his eyes directly on Ymir, and firmly denied, "No, no, no, being a superhero is a torment to me. Don't see me as a superhero, I'm just an ordinary person like you."
