Chapter 11

"Don't think too highly of me or yourself. Even though we have superpowers, we are still ordinary people with emotions. If you think about things this way, you'll live a bit more easily." Ymir silently repeated Matt's words.

He seemed to understand something, but at the same time, he didn't quite grasp what Matt was saying.

Just as Ymir was lost in thought, Matt had almost sunk all the red balls on the table.

Don't underestimate Matt's skills just because he is blind. By relying on the sound of the balls colliding with the table and the slight vibrations of the table, Matt could accurately determine the positions of all the balls.

Although Matt kept saying that he and Ymir were just ordinary people, he was, after all, a Nightshade with super touch. His hand skills were not at all relaxed, and if it weren't for a few minor mistakes, he might have really ended the game in one shot.

Ymir was already amazed. He wasn't completely unfamiliar with snooker.

But even if he had become a powerful ghost, unless he used his yin power, his snooker skills were still at the amateur level. How could he compare to Matt, who was almost at a professional level?

He looked at the cue Matt handed to him, threw it aside decisively, and walked to Matt's side, seriously saying, "Mr. Matt, how about we continue listening to your story..."

"Alright." Seeing that Ymir really didn't like the game, Matt also sat down. He reminisced, "This was my favorite activity."

Ymir suddenly remembered, "Mr. Matt, you weren't born blind, right?"

Matt shook his head, "Of course not."

When Matt was very young, he could still see. One day, he went to the dock where his father, Jack, worked to find him. The dock was very busy, and Matt wandered around for a long time before finding the foreman.

But what the foreman said shocked Matt. The foreman told him, "Are you looking for Jack Murdoch? No, he's not here. He left months ago. You can leave now."

Disappointed, Matt's heart already had some suspicions when he heard the foreman's words.

Perhaps, what those children who bullied him said wasn't entirely made up. Matt felt a bit panicked, and the report card in his hand slipped and fell into a puddle, slowly getting wet and soaked.

He found where his father was. In a secluded alley at the dock, someone was pleading in a trembling voice, "Don't hurt me..."

Jack's voice was no longer as kind as it was at home. He had turned back into the fierce "demon" on the underground fighting ring, "I have to, I have no choice. You know I have a heavy burden..."

Matt couldn't believe his eyes. He saw Jack viciously slam a chubby, seemingly harmless man against a steel pipe. He cried out, "Dad?"

Jack turned around, but Matt had already turned and run away. He didn't know where to go or what to do, just running forward without stopping.

The dock was filled with barrels of radioactive chemicals. Matt's small body darted between these barrels.

He ran tirelessly, feeling very disappointed with his father.

On his way, he almost collided with a forklift at the dock. The forklift driver swerved sharply, but it was too late. The forklift's body hit a barrel of chemicals, and the chemicals splashed into Matt's eyes.

The chemicals burned Matt's optic nerves, and he lost his sight. Matt ordered a whiskey, "When I woke up, I was already in a hospital bed. My eyes were bandaged, but I knew it was no use."

For some reason, Ymir suddenly remembered the feeling of being pierced by the Lance of Longinus in his previous life. It was also a sudden darkness, and all his senses stopped working. He couldn't feel space or time, as if everything in the world had left him.

Matt said calmly, "I knew I was blind. But strangely, my other four senses were enhanced. I could sense things happening far away, and I even gained a sixth sense beyond the five senses."

He continued, "My father said sorry to me. We silently promised each other: never give up, be fearless, and persist even when the chances are slim. We were two fighters making a comeback. I lost my sight but gained unexpected abilities. My remaining senses became superhumanly sharp, and my hearing was like a radar."

In the noisy streets of Hell's Kitchen, Matt used the air as his playground to train his abilities. He worked hard to train his body and senses.

His heightened sense of touch gave Matt strength and balance. He could wander through the entire city, just as he and his father had agreed. Matt became a fearless boy, and his father returned to the underground fighting ring, becoming the invincible "demon."

One day, Fisk finally found Jack. He appeared at the back door of the ring, "We haven't seen each other in a long time, Demon Jack."

Jack didn't want to return to Fisk's service as a gangster. He shook his head and said, "Fisk, I haven't worked for you for a long time."

But Fisk laughed and denied it, "No, you have. Do you really think you won your fights by skill? You're 42 years old. Mite, Mike, and Bandis are all my boxers, just like you..."

He walked up to Jack and pointed at him, "Now, it's your turn, your Waterloo."

Fisk threatened, "For your beloved son, I believe you won't do anything foolish, Jack."

Ordering a juice for Ymir, Matt clinked glasses with him and said regretfully, "Maybe if I hadn't gone to the ring to cheer for my father that day, things wouldn't have been so bad."

Ymir understood Matt's meaning. He remembered that in the movie, while Matt was training his body, he didn't neglect his studies. He excelled and was admitted to Columbia University to study law.

His father, however, had to fight for Fisk to make a living. On that night, Matt went to visit his father, and Jack, ignoring the gang's order to throw the fight, won the match. He won the fight but paid with his life, being killed by the gang after the match.
