In the midst of cherry blossoms dancing in the wind, Misaki opened the old diary and read the words of promise written there.
Spider-Man, who couldn't see the clearly disbelieving look on I米尔's face, was perhaps not to blame. The world I米尔 was in was strange and bizarre, nothing like the movies he had seen in his previous life.
Apart from the characters, the timeline and plot were entirely different from the movies.
This might be some parallel space extended from the movie world.
Children who haven't read the comics can't really handle it.
"Lost Soul, are you still there?" Not seeing I米尔's form, Spider-Man asked again, making I米尔 wonder if he had become this way from spending too much time alone in the sewers.
This isn't scientific; Spider-Man should be swinging around New York with spider silk, right?
I米尔 softly "hmm"ed, indicating he was still listening to Spider-Man's rambling.
Spider-Man became happy and continued, "Lost Soul, do you know, you're really strong!"
At first, when he heard the voice in his ear, Spider-Man thought it was a hallucination from being squeezed too tightly by Doctor Octopus. But soon, he realized that Doctor Octopus had been attacked by someone.
After a while, Doctor Octopus was actually controlled and began attacking his teammates.
Such bizarre and powerful means indeed shocked Spider-Man and made him wary. If such a person chose to become a villain, New York's superheroes would have a formidable new enemy.
However, after deliberately leading "Lost Soul" around the sewers for so long and through their conversation, Spider-Man had a rough understanding of Lost Soul's character.
At the very least, he seemed quite rational and patient, not like someone who would disrupt the peace.
Well, let's consider Spider-Man's self-ask-and-answer style of conversation as a form of communication.
I米尔 didn't pay much attention to his rambling, not because he didn't want to, but because he knew very little about the superhero world and couldn't contribute much. Moreover, I米尔 had never thought about joining the superheroes to fight crime.
Even saving Spider-Man was just a lucky attempt. If it hadn't worked, I米尔 probably wouldn't have tried again.
But Spider-Man didn't know this. In his view, anyone who still had the heart to save him under the threat of the Sinister Six could at least be called a hero.
Perhaps sensing I米尔's lack of interest in what he was saying, Spider-Man shifted the topic to the Sinister Six. He asked I米尔 if he had gained any information from Doctor Octopus.
I米尔 nodded. He had indeed found the culprit in Doctor Octopus's memories, and this person had some issues with him.
Since Spider-Man was interested, it was a good time to involve him: "It's Kingpin. Kingpin sent people to break them out of prison."
"Hey, I knew it was him!" Spider-Man had already suspected the mastermind behind the Sinister Six.
None of these six were easy to deal with. Unless they were overpowered, they wouldn't form a gang to target him. Among Spider-Man's enemies, only Kingpin, the source of evil in the American underworld, was the most likely suspect!
Spider-Man had no doubt about I米尔's words. It seemed that once superheroes accepted a companion, they rarely doubted them. Unlike in I米尔's previous life, where even teammates often suspected each other.
I米尔's thoughts wandered again...
"It looks like Kingpin is planning something big. By the way, Lost Soul, do you know who Kingpin is?" I米尔 was still lost in thought...
Spider-Man clenched his fists, as if ready to punch Kingpin's face. He didn't hesitate to heap all the words he could think of to describe "evil" onto Kingpin:
"He's a scumbag, a degenerate. Most of the criminal activities in the American underworld can be traced back to Kingpin! It's said that he has a criminal mastermind base hidden in New York, like a nerve center controlling all the crimes in the world."
I米尔's eyes narrowed. If there really was such a nerve center in New York, where else could it be but in Hell's Kitchen?
Hell's Kitchen, where I米尔 and Kathleen lived...
Spider-Man shrugged and, as usual, leaped and climbed along the sewer wall. I米尔 thought Peter had not only inherited spider abilities but also some spider-like habits.
"However, I've never believed that place really exists. It might just be a myth, like the Golden Empire or Shangri-La, a daydream for villains."
"Shangri-La does exist." I米尔 had even joined a tour to Shangri-La in his previous life; the scenery was beautiful, but he never had the chance to see the legendary wonders.
"Oh, well..." Before Spider-Man could finish, his hand slipped, and he fell from the pipe, landing on the ground.
I米尔 was curious: "What happened?" During the battle, he had noticed Spider-Man's abilities malfunctioning, and it didn't seem intentional.
It was necessary to hide this from super-villains, but Spider-Man felt he could trust I米尔. Holding his sore forehead, Peter said, "I don't know. My abilities have been acting up lately. I think I should go see Dr. Connors. He's an excellent genetic scientist."
I米尔 was interested in this topic. He had also wanted to check his body. The mysterious resurrection made him feel uncertain about himself. If possible, he would like to go with Spider-Man.
However, regarding Dr. Connors... it seemed he would need to find a way to help Dr. Connors with his lizard transformation problem first...
That's quite a hassle...
Peter had been paying attention to I米尔 all along. Although he couldn't see I米尔's expression, his spider-sense could faintly detect I米尔's emotional changes.
Seeing that Lost Soul seemed a bit interested in the topic, Spider-Man asked hopefully, "Hey, how about we set a time to go see Dr. Connors together?" He was determined to bring I米尔 into his group. With Lost Soul joining the superheroes, New York's order would be even more secure!
