Yimir wished he could raise both his hands and feet to show his agreement, but he couldn't do that. Instead, he pretended to be casual and asked, "Oh, is she a junior from when you were studying at New York University, Sister?"
"Um, yes..." Kathleen looked in a good mood.
"But I remember your grades were excellent. I wonder why you chose New York University back then?" This was a memory Yimir had dug up from within himself. He hadn't paid attention to it before, and this time he just asked out of curiosity.
Kathleen seemed to be taken aback for a moment, then smiled, "It's already enough for our family to be proud of having one Ivy League student. Besides, the courses at Columbia University are quite demanding, and I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep up."
This was just a敷衍 (敷衍 means a perfunctory response or a敷衍 answer, but in this context, it means a casual or dismissive response), Yimir guessed the real reason was more likely that Kathleen had taken several part-time jobs to support the family during her university years. If she could focus all her attention on her studies, with her intelligence, how could she not keep up with the courses?
At this moment, a breaking news story flashed on the TV in the dining room. Kathleen, who had been chatting and laughing with Yimir, subconsciously put down her fork and turned up the volume with the remote control.
"Is Spider-Man a hero or a villain? For those internet trolls who spread rumors claiming that a hero called 'Spider-Man' is maintaining peace in New York, is it more important to focus on facts or imagination?"
"According to a video sent by Mr. James of the Daily Bugle, Spider-Man had a fierce conflict with a group of strangely dressed punks in Manhattan today, causing several damages..."
"People can't help but wonder, is Spider-Man really a hero? Or is he just a misguided young man who has been glorified as a 'hero' by a fan club on Twitter?"
"It seems everyone is talking about Spider-Man, but is he really a qualified superhero? He refuses to communicate with the media, and this wall-crawling oddball might think actions speak louder than words."
"But by refusing to talk to the media, he is actually ignoring a legitimate question: What effect do his actions have on New York's security? What difficulties does he cause for police investigations? How does he overuse his superpowers to stop minor crimes?"
"Some critics say he's just a clown in a spandex suit!"
"Thank you for the contribution from J. Jonah Jameson!"
Hearing the news' judgment on today's events, Yimir couldn't help but be a bit stunned. He had been fighting alongside this "spandex-clad clown" this afternoon. It seemed that the lives of superheroes weren't as glamorous as they appeared in movies; they had their own difficulties behind the scenes.
"Oh, sorry, I forgot you were still watching." Kathleen finally noticed her brother's strange expression and quickly turned off the TV, gently reminding him, "It's getting late. Let me help you get ready, and we'll head out."
"Okay." Yimir nodded subconsciously, then realized, "What? Get ready?"
He hurriedly asked, "We're only going to the opening ceremony of the new technology center tonight, right?"
Kathleen playfully winked at Yimir and said, "Yes, and there will be many beautiful women at the party. Someone told me you haven't had a girlfriend yet, right?"
No one knew her brother better than Kathleen. In the past, he had been completely focused on his studies, which was fine.
Now that he had finally opened up, it was time to take him out and see the world.
"Uh, I think I'm fine as I am, no need to get dressed up..." Yimir said somewhat guiltily, trying to sneak away...
But Kathleen, who had always doted on her brother, finally showed her strong side in front of Yimir.
Protests were in vain. Yimir was dragged into the room by Kathleen, where he was made to take off his Columbia University uniform and put on a more formal brown suit. Even his hair was combed and styled with a bit of hair gel.
After getting ready, Kathleen pulled Yimir in front of the mirror and straightened his collar, "See, my brother is still handsome. You'll definitely stun all the beautiful women at the party!"
Yimir turned in front of the mirror, feeling that this appearance was very familiar.
After thinking for a while, he finally realized it. The suit, the shoes, the black hair, and the black eyes—this was clearly the outfit he used to wear to pick up girls in his previous life! At first, Yimir hadn't paid much attention, but now he suddenly noticed a big problem.
"Right, Sister, do we have Chinese ancestry in our family? Why do I have black hair, black eyes, and yellow skin?"
Kathleen thought for a moment and firmly shook her head, "I don't think so, but I remember Dad saying that our ancestors were from ancient Rome, the Latins, and they looked somewhat like people with yellow skin."
"Ancient Rome? Latins?" These words were unfamiliar to Yimir. Looking at himself in the mirror, he felt as if he had returned to his previous life.
Dressed formally, it was like he was going to a company's year-end dinner.
For a moment, he had a sense of time and space being intertwined.
"Try your best tonight! If you meet a nice girl, don't hesitate; seize the opportunity!" For a moment, Yimir felt as if his sister had been possessed by Spider-Man, nagging all the way until their taxi stopped in front of the café.
Felicity had invited Kathleen to meet at a small café outside the new technology center, but she was currently in a phone booth, talking to Peter's family.
"Peter asked me to tell you he's very sorry. His boss decided to interview at the opening ceremony of the new technology center, so he has to go with him. He asked you and your companion to go in by yourselves and meet him at the party later." Aunt May's voice came from the other end of the phone.
"Okay, thank you." Felicity hung up the phone, feeling a bit disappointed. She had hoped to have a romantic evening with Peter. But now, there was nothing she could do about it.
She knew Peter's family situation, but she couldn't help feeling a bit angry, "He always has an excuse for every date. I should have known he's an unreliable guy!"
"Let me guess what's in your bag?" A drunk man, who had been staring at Felicity for a long time, finally approached and snatched her bag.
"Hey, you scoundrel!" Kathleen, seeing her junior's bag being snatched, was instantly furious and pushed open the car door to get out. But she remembered her brother was still sitting next to her and hesitated, unsure whether to reveal her tough side in front of Yimir.
