Dr. Lizard can see through Ymir's invisibility because he can sense the negative energy emanating from Ymir, just as Ymir can sense the presence of Mephisto. However, this does not mean that his reptilian eyes can see through Ymir's illusions. Ymir took off his hat, bowed slightly, and said, "I apologize for disturbing your hunt, Freddy sends his apologies!"
Spider-Man was slightly taken aback, "Freddy?"
He didn't know Ymir's full name, which should be Ymir Freddy Longinus, so calling himself that wasn't entirely incorrect.
"Freddy?" Ymir also didn't know if this world lacked the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" series of films, or if Dr. Lizard hadn't seen them. Therefore, he didn't seem particularly surprised after hearing Ymir's self-introduction.
"Weakling, you can't hurt me!" Dr. Lizard's anger had reached its peak after being thwarted by Ymir and Spider-Man multiple times. He charged at Ymir with his sharp claws, threatening, "I don't know why I hate you so much, but it doesn't matter. I'll tear you apart! Anyone who obstructs my mission to save humanity will be sent to hell, and you'll regret crossing me!"
Dr. Lizard's attacks passed through Ymir's body, and neither his claws nor his sharp tail could harm Ymir in the slightest. No matter how hard he tried or what methods he used, Ymir remained unaffected, standing lazily as if he were just a shadow.
"No... no, how is this possible... why aren't you hurt? Can you be immune to physical attacks?" As a dual expert in physics and biology, even after transforming into a hideous reptile, his mind still functioned well.
No matter how Dr. Lizard tried to understand Ymir's abilities, the fact remained that his countless attacks passed through Ymir's body. But Ymir seemed to be nothing more than a 3D projection, not even causing a ripple.
Dr. Lizard finally stopped his attacks, his pupils dilating and contracting as he assessed Ymir's state, "No, you're not a projection. My senses tell me you are truly here, but why can't I harm you?"
Hearing Dr. Lizard's question, Ymir shrugged. In truth, he couldn't understand his own state either.
Paranormal abilities are inherently inexplicable, unable to be derived or explained by any system of magic or science.
Ymir only knew what he could and could not do, but not how he achieved his abilities.
For example, the arrival of the inner world is not a multidimensional space in the scientific system, nor is it an alternate plane in the magical system. It is simply the inner side of the world, a paranormal space generated by the accumulation of negative energy.
Including his ability to become intangible, after Ymir was resurrected from death, he naturally understood that he had become a vengeful spirit. All the abilities of a vengeful spirit came to him instinctively, allowing him to master them instantly.
What could not be accomplished by magic or technology, Ymir could do effortlessly. He wielded a completely different system of power, one that could only be understood and realized in a state of intense resentment after an unexpected and violent death.
However, it didn't matter. In the Marvel universe, strange and bizarre abilities were commonplace, and Ymir didn't feel particularly different. He looked at the confused Dr. Lizard and smiled, but the smile on his burned face was terrifying.
"It's my turn now, Dr. Lizard." Ymir walked towards Dr. Lizard with the calmness of someone heading to a grand feast.
"Are you a devil from hell or a malevolent spirit? Mephisto protects my soul!" Under Ymir's pressure, Dr. Lizard actually took a few steps back, his voice trembling with fear.
This surprised Ymir. He had thought that Dr. Lizard, possessed by a malevolent spirit, would have no fear. Now it seemed that wasn't the case. It wasn't that Dr. Lizard lacked fear, but that Ymir's previous actions hadn't instilled fear in him.
"This makes it even more interesting..." Now, the positions between Ymir and Dr. Lizard had switched, with the weaker party looking more like a fierce, ugly lizard.
Dr. Lizard coiled his tail and continuously lashed it at Ymir, but no miracle occurred. Each of his attacks landed on the ground.
The cement steps of the sewer were cracked by Dr. Lizard's tail, and Ymir shook his head. His body suddenly dispersed into a wisp of smoke, swirling around Dr. Lizard and slowly entering his eyes.
Even without the power of fear, Ymir had attempted to invade Dr. Lizard's soul in Dr. Connors' neighborhood. However, it only amplified Dr. Lizard's aggression without achieving the desired effect.
Now, if Dr. Lizard felt even a hint of fear, Ymir's abilities could amplify it infinitely and convert it into the power to control Dr. Lizard's soul!
Indeed, when Ymir entered Dr. Lizard's mind, the reptilian body stiffened. He released his claws, and his mind opened up to Ymir like an innocent girl.
Spider-Man used spider silk to secure Billy in a safe pipe opening and then jumped to Dr. Lizard's side, curiously examining the living fossil.
"Peter, go to the lab table and inject the inhibitor into the Gnarly device, then aim it at me and activate it..." As Spider-Man investigated, the lizard man's mouth suddenly spoke in Ymir's voice.
Spider-Man was startled but quickly realized that Ymir, who had entered Dr. Lizard's body, was doing well. He asked, "How is it, Ymir? Do you have a chance to exorcise the malevolent spirit from Dr. Connors?"
"It's complicated, not as I initially thought," Ymir said honestly, as he had already taken control of Dr. Lizard's consciousness.
"It's... the devil, Mephisto... tempted me, betrayed the Lord..." With Ymir's help, Dr. Connors had regained his sanity, speaking in a broken voice.
Dr. Lizard's will was not a spirit summoned from hell by Mephisto but another side of Dr. Connors himself, born from his fall. Ymir could easily use the power of fear to eliminate it, but Dr. Connors would likely die as well.
