"Still a while longer?" Wang Ming, snapping out of his reverie, asked urgently.
The driver wiped his cold sweat, muttering, "Damn, I thought it was a ghost when that dog darted out!" He turned the key, trying to start the engine, but the more anxious he became, the less it would start!
Wang Ming reached out and grabbed the driver's shoulder, shouting, "Hurry up!"
The driver felt his shoulder about to be crushed, struggling to say, "It's starting, just a moment!"
"Where are we?" Wang Ming looked out the car window at the hotel, which seemed familiar. After all, it had been twenty years, and he couldn't be sure if it was the place he imagined.
The driver, without turning his head, said, "Just through this alley, and it's the back gate of Linji University!"
Deep memories surfaced in his mind. This was the residential area for school staff, with small hotels on both sides, a place for couples to stay. After passing through the alley and turning left, the school's back gate was about a few hundred meters away on the opposite side of the road.
"Thank you, driver!" Wang Ming opened the car door and sprinted forward, glancing at his wristwatch as he ran. It was 8:10. He had been out of the house for forty minutes. He could make it! He must make it!
Guan Ying, wait for me!
Wang Ming ran at a sprint, the cold wind rushing down his throat into his lungs. Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale, he breathed mechanically.
Faster, faster, a figure dashed out of the alley and continued to run. His breathing grew more rapid, his chest felt heavy, his heartbeat quickened, his brain lacked oxygen, and he began to feel dizzy. His vision gradually blurred.
He had reached his limit. Thinking of the life-and-death crisis Guan Ying was facing, Wang Ming suddenly roared, "Ah!"
With his shout, the speed that had slowed down increased again, and he charged through the crowd.
Pedestrians were terrified and moved to the side, pointing at Wang Ming's back. Some cursed, "Hurry to eat shit!"
Wang Ming heard nothing. His eyes were fixed on the school's back gate.
Rushing across the road, the sprinting figure was blocked by the continuous flow of people and noisy vendors.
The narrow school gate was filled with a steady stream of people coming and going.
"Move, everyone, move!" Wang Ming shouted, weaving through the narrow gaps. He didn't care about anything else, pushing anyone who blocked his way to the side.
Students and vendors were in chaos, cursing and complaining. Some, with bad tempers, wanted to hit him, and the entire back gate was in disarray.
"Wang Ming!" a voice called out.
Wang Ming had no time to look back, rushing through the gate and continuing to run. He was racing against time for Guan Ying's life.
Counselor Cen Wei stared in shock at Wang Ming's flying figure. Seeing him drenched in sweat, she knew he must have run a considerable distance. What could have made the usually calm Wang Ming so frantic?
Something must have happened! I have to follow and see.
Cen Wei had planned to have dinner with an old classmate, but her sense of responsibility made her forget the date. Full of questions, she chased after him.
The teaching building, known as the "eighteen floors of hell," was located in the center of the campus. It had just been completed this year, and due to its distance from the dormitories, few students went there for evening study sessions. Especially the eighteenth floor, which was a no-go area at night, standing silently in the dark.
But today was different. Running Wang Ming saw the lights on the eighteenth floor, a mix of excitement and worry swirling in his heart. Faster, faster, was the only thought in his mind. As Wang Ming rushed into the teaching building, Cen Wei also noticed the unusual activity.
"His target is the new teaching building? Wait, why are the lights on the eighteenth floor on?" Cen Wei, panting, stopped, leaning on her knees, her mind full of questions.
Wang Ming rushed to the elevator, bending over and panting, frantically pressing the button. Eighteen, eighteen, still eighteen.
The elevator didn't move, remaining still on the eighteenth floor.
Wang Ming's face turned pale. The elevator wasn't broken; it had been deliberately stopped on the eighteenth floor.
Two possibilities: one, Yang Yang was纠缠 with Guan Ying! The other, Guan Ying had already been harmed, and someone was cleaning up the scene!
This thought made Wang Ming stagger. Was he too late? Could he have come too late!
"No, no!" Wang Ming clenched his teeth and ran toward the stairs. He wouldn't give up until the last second, even if he had to crawl to the eighteenth floor.
He ran up the first and second floors, but as the floors increased, his strength waned. His legs felt weak, his breathing rapid, and his lungs felt like they were about to burst. Eventually, he could only grab the handrail and climb step by step, sweat streaming down his face. From below, faint shouts seemed to be calling his name.
In the quiet hallway, laughter suddenly came from a door crack, along with the sound of a table falling!
Someone! There's someone upstairs!
Wang Ming suddenly realized something, and his nearly depleted strength returned. He took a few large steps, rushed to the eighteenth floor, and pushed open the stairwell door. At the end of the corridor, by the door of a large classroom, stood a figure he would never forget.
"Guan Ying, I'm here!" Wang Ming shouted her name and ran toward the end of the corridor.
Guan Ying, standing on the windowsill, had already decided to die to preserve her innocence. Suddenly hearing a familiar voice, her calm face finally showed emotion, and tears streamed down her cheeks.
'I knew you would come!' This was Guan Ying's heart's voice.
"Wang Ming, save me!"
"Wang Ming, save me!"
These cries echoed in the corridor, traveling through twenty years to reach Wang Ming's ears. Cen Wei, slowly climbing the stairs, also heard Wang Ming's roar. Her face turned pale. It was Guan Ying, the beautiful girl, who was in trouble!
What could happen to such a beautiful girl? Cen Wei's face darkened!
Wang Ming ran closer, finally seeing the figure at the large classroom door and the shocked expression on their face.
Yang Yang stared in shock at the suddenly appearing Wang Ming! His mind went blank!
Before he could figure out why Wang Ming was there, the running Wang Ming picked up a trash can and threw it hard. With a bang, blood gushed from Yang Yang's forehead, his vision went dark, and he collapsed, feeling both fear and defeat.
Wang Ming didn't care why Yang Yang was standing at the classroom door or who else was inside. He kicked the classroom door open.
Guan Ying stood on the windowsill, gripping the window tightly, looking at Wang Ming with excitement.
It was the figure from his deep memories. Guan Ying stood by the window, the evening breeze blowing her long hair. She wore a red dress, with a full chest, a slender waist, and a plump bottom, perfectly showcasing her golden ratio figure. She had flesh-colored stockings on her legs and half-high leather boots on her feet. She was so beautiful, like a fairy in a painting.
Under her long lashes, her large, watery eyes showed surprise. Her snow-white face was free of any makeup, except for a deep red lipstick on her lips. Her small mouth was slightly open, and her voice, like a lark's, rang in Wang Ming's ears: "I knew you would come!"
A stranger stood in front of Guan Ying, about seventeen or eighteen years old, with a pale face, small eyes, and thin lips. He had his arms outstretched, as if trying to pull Guan Ying off the windowsill.
The sudden appearance of Wang Ming didn't make the stranger nervous; instead, his eyes showed a special excitement, like a cat seeing a mouse.
Wang Ming's eyes saw only the tear-streaked face, and the tears he had held back all night finally flowed. Twenty years of longing, and today he finally saw her! This time, it wasn't in a dream but in reality. Heaven had not disappointed him, giving him the chance to save Guan Ying's life and avoid regret!
"Wang Ming!" Guan Ying called out again.
Wang Ming said softly, "Don't be afraid, everything is on me!"
Wang Ming picked up a stool from the ground and walked step by step toward the young man. The long run had accelerated his blood circulation, and the capillaries in his eyes had burst, making everything he saw red. His eerie eyes and fierce expression would terrify anyone.
But the young man wasn't afraid; instead, he licked his lips excitedly. "Kid, this is your girlfriend! Interesting, this is interesting. I love this scene! Hero saves the beauty! Ha! Unfortunately, you met me. Do you know who I am?"
It was clear he was extremely confident in his family background.
"I don't care who you are! I only want to do one thing!" Wang Ming said, word by word, "I'm going to beat you to death today!"
With that, Wang Ming swung the stool and hit the young man, once, twice, three times. At this moment, Wang Ming was in a frenzy. He didn't care who the young man was or what background he had. He had only one thought: beat him to death! Beat him to death!
The resentment from two lifetimes made Wang Ming brutally beat the stranger.
"Beat you, you bastard, for daring to touch my woman and act tough! I'll show you, I'll show you! You think you can win with your family background? Even your grandfather wouldn't help you!" Wang Ming's stool hit the young man's head repeatedly.
"Don't!" Yang Yang, seeing this, looked horrified. Seeing the young man's face covered in blood, Yang Yang crawled in and pounced on Wang Ming, wrestling with him.
After a while, Cen Wei, out of breath, finally climbed to the eighteenth floor and was shocked to see the two men fighting.
"Cen Teacher!" Guan Ying called out in surprise.
Cen Wei then noticed Guan Ying standing on the windowsill. She ignored the fighting men and ran over to help Guan Ying down.
"What happened? Why is Wang Ming fighting with Yang Yang?" Cen Wei asked.
Guan Ying, wiping her tears and biting her lip, said, "It's Yang Yang! He's behind all this! I was tricked into the large classroom, and this person, he, he wanted to assault me. Yang Yang was standing guard! Fortunately, Wang Ming came. I had already decided to die rather than suffer such an insult!"
Cen Wei, relieved, patted her chest. "Thank goodness we made it in time! Don't do this again. Death solves nothing. As long as there's a glimmer of hope, don't give up. Do you understand?"
Guan Ying didn't speak. She stared at Wang Ming's figure, determined to die rather than be insulted.
The two men fighting finally had a winner. Yang Yang had only the courage of the moment. When Cen Wei entered the classroom and Guan Ying pointed him out, all his courage vanished, and he collapsed, muttering, "It's over, all over!"
Wang Ming, thinking of his hatred from his previous life, sat on Yang Yang and punched him repeatedly. "Damn, I'll make you hurt Guan Ying! Bastard, I'll make you hurt her!"
At first, Yang Yang tried to dodge and beg for mercy, but gradually his voice grew weaker, and he seemed to stop breathing. Wang Ming was unmoved. He had killed Yang Yang once before his rebirth and felt no guilt in doing it again.
Cen Wei, seeing the situation, urgently said, "Stop, you'll kill him!"
Wang Ming glared at Cen Wei with bloodshot, murderous eyes, scaring her back several steps.
"Wang Ming, that's enough!" Guan Ying, holding back tears, shouted. She understood Wang Ming's madness was for her, and she hated Yang Yang too, but if Yang Yang died here, Wang Ming's life would be ruined!
Hearing Guan Ying's shout, Wang Ming finally stopped. He let go, and Yang Yang fell limply to the ground. Wang Ming spat on Yang Yang's face.
He then stood up, arms open, and staggered toward Guan Ying.
Only after losing something do you truly appreciate it. Thinking of the days after losing Guan Ying in his previous life, his hands tightened. Thank you for being alive, thank you for giving me the chance to save you! Thank you for making my life no longer filled with regret!
Cen Wei, seeing Wang Ming's bloodshot tears, gasped.
Guan Ying, remembering Cen Wei was there, quickly broke free from Wang Ming's embrace, blushing. "Cen Teacher!"
Cen Wei, seeing Wang Ming's dejected expression, covered her mouth and laughed. "I didn't expect you to be such a romantic! But now isn't the time for that. How should we handle this?"
Guan Ying, coming to her senses, looked at the two men on the ground with disgust, while Wang Ming, eyes filled with anger, thought of the twenty years Guan Ying had died without a clear cause, and the daily regret he had lived with. His uncontrollable anger made him grab the stool and step toward the two men.
