Chapter 95

Today was the first day back at work after the New Year’s holiday, but Eunseo loved it. This wasn’t just because she finally had her bandage off from her foot. When she got up this morning, she didn’t have to listen to her stepmother and stepsister gossiping. She didn’t have to hurry up when she took her shower and smell the breakfast that was never going to be offered to her. Now in her new home, Eunseo was free to cook and eat as she wished. She could even lie down on the sofa in the living room and watch TV.

It was so wonderful to be free. She didn’t have to see the people she hated. It has only been a few days since she moved out, yet Eunseo felt like she was already gaining a little bit of weight.

And Eunseo now lived only 10 minutes away from her work. She didn’t have to take the full bus during rush hour anymore. As she headed toward work, Eunseo felt thankful to Jiye again.

Earlier, when Eunseo was talking to Jiye on the phone. When she mentioned rent, Jiye snorted and replied, “Are you serious? Do you really think I would accept rent from you? Just live there for free.”

But Eunseo planned on sending the rent on time every month. She knew Jiye was rich enough not to need this money, but this was the right thing to do. Also, Eunseo hoped that she could be Jiye’s friend and in order to do so, they needed to keep the business side fair and square.

Eunseo was enamored by Jiye, who was so confident and strong. Looking down at the shoes Jiye bought her, Eunseo was reminded again of how similar Jihwan and Jiye were.

“Good morning,” Eunseo announced when she entered the office.

The team leader waved at her and asked, “Miss Kang, are you busy tonight?”

“No, not really.” Eunseo assumed that the team leader was going to ask her to work late.

“Well, do you remember that someone from the headquarters wanted to have dinner with you? Is it okay if it’s tonight?” asked the team leader.

Eunseo did remember. Her team leader suggested that she might get a bonus too.

“Yes, I’m fine with that.”

“They asked me if you wanted to eat anything special, Miss Kang.”

“I like everything,” replied Eunseo. But she quickly added, “As long as it’s not pork feet.”

Pork feet tended to increase lactation. One time in the past, Eunseo ate it without knowing, and her breasts leaked the entire day. Since then, she has never eaten pork feet again.

“Alright, I’ll tell them,” the team leader answered. He was about to turn away when suddenly, he paused. He faced Eunseo again and continued, “By the way… Something sounded strange. When I got the call…”

“Pardon? What do you mean? Where did the call come from?” asked Eunseo.

“…Never mind. It’s nothing. I’m sure you’ll find out when you get there.”

Eunseo wondered why the team leader looked confused. Where did the call come from? But she quickly forgot about it. It was the first day after the long holiday, so there was a lot of work to do. She focused, and she worked so hard that the day went by quickly.

The day was finally over, and when Eunseo went down to the lobby, she saw that a car was sent from the headquarters for her. It was bigger and more luxurious than Jihwan’s car. It was the type of car only very important people rode.

Suddenly, Eunseo wondered if she was supposed to have dinner with someone high up in the company like a director of a whole department. She had no idea what she did was such a big deal.

Feeling nervous, Eunseo asked the driver, “Excuse me. Could you tell me who I’m meeting tonight? Is it the director?”

The driver answered politely, “You’ll find out when you get there, Miss.”

It took 30 minutes to arrive at a giant building. It was a traditional Korean building, and it didn’t even have a sign indicating it was a restaurant. As Eunseo walked across the garden, she thought that perhaps this was someone’s personal home. But when she saw waitresses in traditional Korean dresses carrying trays of food, Eunseo realized that this was indeed a restaurant.

Someone who looked like a secretary ushered Eunseo inside. “Please come this way.”

Eunseo was taken to a separate private building. Before opening the door, the secretary announced quietly, “Sir, Miss Kang has arrived.”

Feeling tense, Eunseo took her shoes off and entered the room. Inside, a giant table was filled with expensive food. Across from it was a man sitting and waiting for her. When she saw him, Eunseo couldn’t breathe. The man was someone she has seen only on TV before. He was in his 80s, yet he had excellent posture and he looked powerful.

It was the CEO of Korean Constructions Chairman Kwon Joonghyun.
