Chapter 96
“Haha, I’m sorry. Did I surprise you?” asked Chairman Kwon.
Eunseo jolted and bowed deeply. “How do you do, Chairman? My name is Kang Eunseo and I’m a designer in the design department of DH.”
She hated how her voice trembled, but she couldn’t help it. Eunseo had never been this nervous in her life. Chairman Kwon gestured for Eunseo and asked, “Why don’t you sit down, Miss Kang?”
Eunseo sat down and looked at the cup on the table. It was a thick ceramic cup and it was filled with something that was light brown. It looked like tea, and she prayed that it wasn’t too hot. She needed to drink something fast.
“Miss Kang, you’re about the same age as my granddaughter, and you’re basically one of my employees, so I hope you don’t mind me being informal,” said Chairman Kwon.
“Of course, Chairman.”
“I apologize again for summoning you without a warning like this. If you knew you were having dinner with me, I was afraid you might refuse.”
This was true. Even now, Eunseo wished he could run away.
Normally, when a person gets older, their eyes turn cloudy. But this was not the case with Chairman Kwon. His eyes were crystal clear and intelligent. It was hard to look into his eyes, so Eunseo stared at his tie.
Chairman continued, “Thanks to you, our design material sales went up significantly, Miss Kang. So I wanted to buy you dinner to thank you.”
Eunseo couldn’t imagine that the sales would have gone up that much. And even if it did, it didn’t make sense that the chairman of the company would show up like this. Eunseo wasn’t an idiot, so she knew there was more to this meeting.
There was only one answer she could come up with. This had to be about Kwon Jihwan.
Realizing that Chairman Kwon might know about her and Jihwan’s relationship made her almost faint. How did he know? And how much did he know?
Eunseo was becoming more and more anxious when Chairman Kwon placed a white envelope in front of her. When she saw it, her heart almost stopped.
“Miss Kang, this is the bonus to thank you for your hard work. You can buy yourself something delicious and maybe get yourself an outfit too.”
“But Chairman, this isn’t necessary. I was only doing my job.”
Chairman Kwon raised his eyebrows unhappily. “I’m not the one giving this to you. It’s the company. The headquarters is giving this as a reward, so will you refuse it?”
Eunseo took the envelope with her trembling hands. She has seen something like this before in a TV show. When a poor woman dated a rich man, his family often tried to get rid of her by paying her off.
So was this what was happening? Was Chairman Kwon giving her money in exchange for leaving Jihwan?
Chairman Kwon said quietly, “I know your president is still very young and inexperienced, so I’m sure all the employees are forced to work extra hard.”
“That’s not true, Chairman. President Kwon is an excellent boss and I have learned a lot from him.”
When Eunseo replied, Chairman Kwon seemed amused. He asked, “Oh, I see. So I guess he’s being nice to you at least, Miss Kang?”
So this really was about Kwon Jihwan. Eunseo inhaled deeply and replied, “Sir, I think there is a misunderstanding. There is nothing going on between me and your grandson.”
Chairman Kwon smiled kindly. “I know. My grandson isn’t perfect. He is a grown man, yet he can be very immature. So I hope you take good care of him, Miss Kang.”
Suddenly, Eunseo realized that something was very wrong. This wasn’t the conversation she expected.
Chairman Kwon chuckled again and continued, “And if he ever makes trouble, you can come to me. I’ll set him straight.”
Eunseo finally looked up into the elderly man’s eyes. They were as sharp as Jihwan’s, but they were smiling at her kindly.
“Chairman, there is really nothing going on between your grandson and me…”
“Ah, I know that. And I’m not asking you to get married right away or anything. Just test Jihwan out and see how you feel about him. If he isn’t good enough for you, you can dump him. I won’t blame you, Miss Kang.”
Eunseo couldn’t understand what was going on. Feeling thirsty, she took a gulp of the tea in front of her. Chairman filled her cup for her and said with a grin, “All I’m asking is that you should think about it. My grandson is a good catch, you know.”
Setting the teapot down, Chairman Kwon clicked his tongue and added, “By the way, Jihwan must have made you work too hard. You’re too thin.”
Chairman Kwon separated the fish from its bones and placed it on Eunseo’s plate. “Here, have some.”
Eunseo’s hands trembled as she began eating.
