11.

Jihwan’s mother seemed relieved.

“You did very well. You must be so tired, so why don’t you go and sleep with Jiae for a while? I’ll take care of Seohyun if she wakes up, so don’t bother getting up if you hear her cry.”

“Thank you. Umm, by the way, do you have any ramen?” Jihwan’s brother-in-law asked.

“Oh, no! I forgot. You must be starving.”

“No, it’s just that I still feel a bit drunk, so if I eat something spicy…” Jihwan’s brother-in-law replied awkwardly.

Jihwan’s mother pulled up her sleeves and turned to Jihwan.

“How about you? You need to eat too, don’t you? How many would you like?”

What Jihwan needed was sleep more than food. Now that he knew Jiae was fine, his relief was making him even sleepier.

Jihwan turned toward his brother-in-law and asked, “You’re going to sleep here tonight right? And go to work tomorrow from here?”

“Yeah, I think I will. I should stay with Jiae.”

Jihwan replied, “Then I’m going home. I’m just too sleepy.”

Jihwan’s brother-in-law protested, “But you should eat. You had to drive me all the way here, so you must be hungry.”

Jihwan’s mother agreed, “Yes, you should eat something.”

Jihwan shook his head. He announced. “I need to get some sleep if I want to work tomorrow.”

When he got into his car, he checked his watch. It was already 3 A.M. Jihwan couldn’t help sighing, wondering how he was going to work tomorrow.

His eyes kept closing. They felt so heavy.

“Boss, are you ill? You look so tired,” Jihwan’s secretary asked as he placed a cup of coffee on the desk.

“I’m fine. I just didn’t get good sleep last night.” Jihwan rubbed his tired eyes and mumbled.

By the time he got home, it was 3:30 in the morning. He found it very hard to get back to sleep, and by the time he did, it was five o’clock. So in total, he barely got four hours of sleep last night, so it was no wonder he was tired.

He asked for an extra strong cup of coffee today. While he took a sip, his secretary placed a couple of papers on his desk. They were news articles about their upcoming showroom.

“Robbery of showrooms in Chungdamdon…?” Jihwan whispered in shock. Placing the cup down on the desk, he picked up the first page. It was an article about several of the interior design and furniture showrooms being robbed.

Jihwan’s secretary explained, “This happened in the last 10 days. A total of three places were robbed.”

Jihwan saw that all the top companies were robbed. Those places had to have tight security systems, so it was a shock to learn they were robbed.

His secretary continued, “We haven’t opened our showroom officially, but it is almost completed. I thought we need to be careful, which is why I brought you these articles.”

If they were robbed, it was going to be a huge problem. This was DH’s very first showroom, and they took great care to handpick every item. If they were stolen, they were never going to open on time. The financial damage was going to be significant as well.

“Call our security company and ask them to take special care,” Jihwan ordered.

“Of course, Boss.”

Even after he ordered, Jihwan couldn’t help feeling nervous. The other showrooms that were robbed must have been very secure as well, yet it still happened. Thinking he couldn’t trust the security company, Jihwan summoned the leaders of all of the teams.

“We are going to have to have people staying overnight to protect our showroom,” Jihwan announced as he handed them the news articles.

He continued, “This happens frequently in many construction sites. This is why it’s not uncommon for the employees to take turns staying overnight.”

Jihwan’s first job was in the construction department of Korean Constructions. He worked there for about a year, but when he realized that it didn’t suit him, he moved to the interior design department. There, his project DH became a huge hit, which is how he came to become the CEO.

So Jihwan was used to the night duty, but it was clear the team leaders were confused by the idea.

“Let’s just try to get through this until we open. The police are investigating, so I’m sure they’ll find the robbers soon. We only have two weeks left till the open, so we just need one person from each team to take turns.”

When Jihwan sounded firm, the team leaders had no choice but to agree.

“Of course, Boss.”

Even after everyone left, Jihwan felt uncomfortable. He always told his employees not to work late, but now, he was asking them to work overnight. The weather was getting chilly, so this was going to be difficult. In the end, Jihwan called for his secretary and changed his order.

“I’ll take tonight’s shift, so the other people can take turns starting tomorrow.”

Jihwan hoped that if he took the first night, his employees would feel more understanding.
