After work, Jihwan headed toward the showroom. He was exhausted, but he had no choice.

The showroom wasn’t very far from his work, but the rush hour in Gangnam was horrendous. He left exactly at 6 o’clock, but by the time he arrived, he was well past 7 o’clock.

“Welcome, Boss,” the security guard came all the way out to the parking lot to greet Jihwan. It seemed that Jihwan’s secretary already called ahead because the guard didn’t ask Jihwan why he was here at this hour.

The guard explained, “The construction begins at 9 o’clock in the morning, so we open the building at 8:30 A.M. Until then, you can’t open the door from inside, but if there is an emergency situation, please ring the emergency bell in the staff room. We will get to you immediately.”

Jihwan didn’t think it was necessary, but he still nodded.

“Alright.”

“I will return your cell phone tomo… I mean, sorry. Never mind,” the guard apologized. It must have been his habit to demand all the cell phones of those entering the showroom. In order to prevent any information from leaking out to the rival companies, everyone entering the showroom including the construction workers and the employees from DH was required to leave their cell phones outside. This was a rule that was set well before the robbery began.

But this was the president of DH. The guard seemed embarrassed and awkward.

Jihwan replied, “No, the rules are the rules. You’re doing the right thing asking for it.”

He handed the guard his cell phone without hesitation. There was no one who was going to call him, and he was tired. Most likely, he was going to fall asleep and not wake up till the morning, which meant he wasn’t going to need his cell phone.

Jihwan requested, “I’m going to have a quick look around, so please keep all the lights on. After about 30 minutes, you can just leave the minimum number of lights and turn everything off.”

“Alright,” the guard answered.

Jihwan grabbed the blanket, a take-out, and a bottle of water his secretary packed for him in his car. Everything in his hands, he entered the showroom.

Behind him, he heard the mechanical sound of a heavy door closing and locking.

Jihwan looked around the room. He used to visit every other day before, but for the past week, he had been so busy that he hadn’t come once.

It looked like there was a lot of progress since the last time he visited. All the lighting was completed and only the last bits of individual booths needed to be finished.

Even though the showroom wasn’t completed, it looked amazing. Jihwan had emphasized that their showroom needed to look desirable, so this was exactly what he wanted.

It didn’t matter even if the economy was going downhill. Everyone wanted luxury, especially those people with money. This was what Jihwan was targeting, and within three years, DH was considered one of the best luxury interior design companies in the country.

His products were most popular among the newlyweds who wanted to show off to the world. Some even gave up their honeymoon trips in order to afford the DH design for their new home.

Jihwan looked at his project with satisfaction. Bathrooms, living rooms, and bedrooms… All of them looked beautiful and dazzling. He walked around until he stopped in front of one particular booth.

It was a small booth for a one-room condo for a single individual. It was decorated in an elegant beige tone, and despite its small size, the space was being used very efficiently. The darker wooden floor and the bright lighting worked nicely together to give a cozy and comfortable atmosphere.

The furniture had to be from famous foreign brands, but it looked like the designer chose the simplest items. He could see that the designer wanted to keep the space luxurious but still comfortable. After looking at so many dazzling and extravagant booths, he felt more relaxed in this room.

Jihwan wondered who designed this booth. He placed his blanket on the bed carefully. His secretary promised to put a cot in the staff room by tomorrow, which meant Jihwan had to sleep in one of the booths.

As he lay down, most of the lights got turned off like magic. There was only a minimum number of lights mostly on the floor as a guide. He looked at his watch to see that it wasn’t even 8 o’clock. But because he didn’t get much sleep last night, Jihwan quickly fell asleep.

He didn’t know how long he slept. Suddenly hearing some noise, he woke up.

Clack, clack, clack.

Realizing it was someone’s footstep, he jolted.

Was it the robber?

Jihwan gulped loudly. Based on how many places this robber stole from, it couldn’t be just one person who did it. There had to be at least several working together, which meant that Jihwan couldn’t fight all of them. The best thing he could do was try to get to the emergency bell, which was in the staff room all the way across.
