20.

The next day.

Eunseo stood in front of her almost-empty closet and got ready for work. She didn’t have any money to spare, which meant she didn’t have much to wear. It was hard to believe that such a shabby closet belonged to a 28-year-old woman.

Eunseo knew how men saw her. There was no way she couldn’t know because she could see the sexual curiousity in their eyes. She attracted a lot of perverts in her days, which was why her friends nicknamed her the “pervert blackhole” when she was in university.

Eunseo was desperate to leave home, but she could never afford it. In the past, she had tried one of those cheap share rooms, but she got into a few dangerous situations as a single woman, so she had no choice but to return home.

Eunseo hated being noticed by others. That was why she only wore loose clothes in dark colors. The only nice piece of cloth she owned was a light pink one-piece dress her friend bought her. Eunseo helped her a lot with her wedding preparation, so her friend dragged her to a clothing store and brought her this.

Her friend had told Eunseo at the time, “Eunseo, you’re so pretty and you have a great body, so why do you always wear such baggy clothes? You should wear something like this.”

Feeling thankful, Eunseo wore the dress to her friend’s wedding, but never again since then. She touched the dress and considered wearing it today before flinching.

She scolded herself, ‘ What do you think you’re doing? Are you trying to look pretty to someone? Don’t bother!’

Eunseo chose the ugliest clothes she had on purpose and didn’t even wear any lipstick today. She left home, and on the bus that was so full that she could barely breathe, she practiced what she was going to tell her boss.

Eunseo planned on thanking and apologizing to Jihwan. She also decided to tell him the truth about her condition. She thought it was the least she could do for someone who helped her. She needed to explain why she, an unmarried woman who wasn’t pregnant, was suffering from a condition like mastitis.

Feeling determined, Eunseo went to work. The elevator stopped on the sixth floor where DH office was located. The moment the elevator door opened, she heard someone yell, “Good morning, Boss.”

Eunseo flinched and hid behind her corner. Then she immediately wondered why she was hiding.

“Good morning.” Eunseo heard Kwon Jihwan reply. Her heart began screaming, and her ears were ringing. Her face turned bright red as if she ran a marathon. She leaned against the wall and closed her eyes.

She ran away from him even before she saw him, so how was she going to thank him and explain her situation?

Desperation filled her heart as Eunseo realized the truth.

She had a crush on Kwon Jihwan.

There was only one week left till the DH showroom opening day. Eunseo was out working in Korean Construction’s Best Home showroom to clean out any DH-related items.

“So the tables, that stool over there, the bed frame here, all the mattresses, and the sofa… Some of them will have to be thrown out, and…”

Eunseo checked each item carefully and matched it to the list. Anything that couldn’t be reused, such as the floorings and wallpapers, was to be thrown away. The display furniture that was in decent condition was to be sold to second hand stores.

Eunseo pointed at one of the wooden tables in perfect condition and asked the showroom manager, “How much will that go for?”

“Real cheap. A table like that… We’ll be lucky to get 100 dollars.”

“That’s too bad. It’s actually a really expensive item.”

“It can’t be helped since it’s a used item. Oh, Eunseo, did you hear about that robber being caught?” asked the showroom manager.

Eunseo replied, “Yes, I did. I read the article this morning. I’m glad no one will have to take the overnight shift anymore. Our boss has been really worried because we’re just about to open our own showroom.”

“I see. I heard about DH having its employees staying overnight, and we all got worried that our own boss might make us do the same.”

Eunseo was checking all the different booths with the showroom manager when she suddenly stopped.

“…Mr. Kwon,” Eunseo murmured when she saw Kwon Jihwan walking toward her.

Eunseo quickly rushed forward and bowed deeply. “Hello, Sir.”

It has been four days since that night. Eunseo felt her ears turning red, but she made sure not to react. She was used to hiding her feelings, so she didn’t find it difficult to pretend.

Kwon Jihwan bowed lightly and replied, “How are you?”

“Sir, what brings you here…?”

When Eunseo asked, Jihwan answered, “I heard they’re taking down our booths here, so I came to have one last look. How about you, Miss Kang?”

“Same here. I needed to do one last check of our items.”

“I see. May I have a look at the list?” asked Jihwan.

“Of course.” Eunseo quickly handed him the list.

Jihwan murmured, “So everything is to be thrown out or sold. Is there anything we could use in our new showroom?”

“No, not really. I’m sure we could, but the team leader said that since this is a brand new showroom, we should just use everything new.”

Eunseo was worried Jihwan might get upset, thinking this was a waste of money. But he simply agreed, “Good idea.”

She was reminded of the fact that Kang Jihwan came from a rich family. She scolded herself again that she was being stupid to fall for someone like him.

Jihwan asked, “Do you have a lot left to do here?”

“No, I’m almost done.”

“Good, I won’t take long either. I’m going to have a quick look, and we’ll leave together.”

Jihwan took about 10 minutes to look around and talk to the showroom employees. When Eunseo was done, he announced, “Let’s go.”

Eunseo followed Jihwan into the elevator. When they were finally alone, Jihwan asked, “How are you feeling?”
