38.

Eunseo’s presence helped her stepmother’s reputation. She was known as the selfless stepmother who raised a girl who wasn’t even her real daughter.

Eunseo’s stepmother pretended to be a saint, which was why her fruit store was a success. There were many who came to her shop just to support a “good woman”.

It was actually Eunseo’s mother who told everyone about Eunseo’s condition while pretending to care.

After what happened that day, Eunseo realized that a girl like her shouldn’t date anyone. If she did, she would be ruining that man’s life. She decided that she should be ashamed of herself and her illness.

Dongjun called her a few times afterward, but she didn’t answer him. He even came to her house, but Eunseo refused to see him. Eunseo didn’t know if Dongjun knew what his mother did.

To be honest, Eunseo didn’t want to know.

At the age of 20, she decided she would never date again. And so far, she had been keeping her promise.

But today…

“You’re being an idiot! Why are you running away from love?” Jihwan had said to her.

Hot tears rolled down her cheeks.

What else could she do other than run? What did Kwon Jihwan expect her to do?

Was she supposed to explain her condition to a man out right before dating?

“The truth is, I suffer from a condition called galactorrhea. It’s incurable and I have to pump my breasts at least three times a day to function normally. Ah, and even though I have plenty of breast milk, I actually can’t have any children. But I still like you, so would you go out on a date with me?”

Was this what she was supposed to say? And what did Jihwan think any man would say if she did?

If it was him, would he be able to accept her?

Eunseo remembered the baby photo on Kwon Jihwan’s phone. It was clear he loved babies, so would he ever date a woman like her?

Eunseo wanted to sob, but instead, she laughed bitterly. Wiping away her tears, she walked faster. Right now, all she wanted was to get as far away from that man as possible.

The next morning, Eunseo felt much calmer. In fact, she felt apologetic toward Kwon Jihwan. After all, he took her to a fancy restaurant, and she ended up leaving him so angrily.

And it was even worse that he was her boss.

After thinking calmly, Eunseo could understand why Kwon Jihwan felt the way he did. He actually loved her breast milk, and he also didn’t know that she couldn’t have children.

As she got ready for work, Eunseo realized that she got angry yesterday for an entirely different reason. She was obviously upset that Jihwan called her an idiot and a coward, but what really made her upset was the fact that Jihwan was telling her to date Seo Hyunwoo.

It was Kwon Jihwan she liked, yet this man was encouraging her to go out with another man. This had to mean that Jihwan wasn’t interested in her at all.

Eunseo already knew this very well, but she still felt hurt. Just because you were shot by a bullet once didn’t mean it would hurt more if you were shot again.

Eunseo wondered how long they will be able to continue this strange relationship. Just one harsh word from him was enough to hurt her badly.

With a sigh, Eunseo finished getting ready. Because her only nice bag was broken, she had to carry her backpack from her college years.

She was walking out of her house when a delivery man got off his bike. He spotted Eunseo and asked,

“Are you Miss Kang Eunseo?”

“Yes, I’m her.”

“Mr. Kwon Jihwan sent you this.”

The delivery man handed her a box. She accepted it awkwardly and asked,

“Umm, what is this?”

“How should I know? Could you just sign here?”

After the delivery man left, Eunseo opened the box. Inside, she found a purse.

It was a dark brown leather bag. Its design was very simple with only a gold button to adorn it. Because Eunseo liked simple things, she loved it. It was also a perfect size for work.

Inside the box, she found a small card.

-I’m sorry about yesterday.

The neat writing made Eunseo laugh. It was a short apology, but it was more than enough to make her feel much better.

Falling in love with someone tended to make a person so much easier to please. Only yesterday, she was furious, but now… She felt happy.

Carrying her new bag, Eunseo headed toward work.

But the problem occurred when she arrived. Eunseo loved the new purse because it was so simple, but everyone at work seemed to recognize it.

“Oh my god, Eunseo! You bought a new purse?”

“It’s the classic box-shaped edition!”

“Wow, it’s so pretty! I’ve been wanting to buy this for the longest time!”

Everyone exclaimed over it, making Eunseo feel confused. There was a logo on the front, but Eunseo didn’t realize that it was a famous brand.
