Chapter 68.

The music sounded different from the CD Eunseo heard earlier. It sounded real. When she rose, she saw the back of the man who was sitting in front of the piano.

Eunseo realized that Kwon Jihwan was playing the piano himself.

She stood up and walked up to him. Eunseo didn’t want to interrupt him, so she didn’t get too close. Instead, she stood nearby and watched quietly.

She couldn’t tell what song he was playing, but it sounded like jazz. His long elegant fingers were like dancing as he played. Eunseo was dazed as she stared. She didn’t know anything about music and piano, but she knew Jihwan was extremely skilled. There was no way he learned to play like this as a hobby.

Again, it wasn’t the usual Christmas carol Eunseo was used to, but it sounded very festive. Jihwan didn’t have to explain for Eunseo to realize that this was the gift he promised her earlier.

This Christmas was already so dream-like, but with Jihwan’s performance, this day became even more perfect. When he finished, Eunseo clapped quietly.

She sat down next to him without a word. Jihwan seemed to know what she wanted to ask because he murmured, “I was a jazz pianist.”

Eunseo couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Kwon Jihwan always seemed like such a perfect businessman, so if she didn’t see him play just now, she would have thought he was joking.

Eunseo asked, “Did you graduate with a music degree?”

“No, I majored in business, but I saw one concert and fell in love with jazz. I believed that it was my destiny to play jazz,” Jihwan explained. He began playing playfully with one hand, and Eunseo realized that it was the Jingle Bell.

Jihwan continued, “Since that day, I stopped attending school and became obsessed with playing the piano. I learned how to play when I was little, so it wasn’t too difficult for me to begin. I took jazz lessons in Korea, and after I graduated from university, I went for an audition in New York. There, I got into a music school. I got into a jazz club and played at concerts too.”

Jihwan stared at his own fingers and mumbled, “I wanted to release my own album too. I wanted to live a life as a jazz musician.”

“Then why did you stop?”

“My father, who inherited the company, died so suddenly. Someone needed to take over, and my older sister refused to run a construction company. She ran away with her boyfriend to another country, so I had no other choice. In the end, I had to return to Korea and begin working in this company.”

Jihwan crossed his arms and watched the piano. He added, “Thanks to you, I got to play the piano again and it was fun. It’s no fun playing alone. Since you’re here, I feel like playing again, Miss Kang.”

“I don’t know much about music, but if you don’t mind, I would love to hear more. It sounds really nice.” Eunseo meant what she said.

“Are you saying you’ll come to my place often from now on?” Jihwan grinned at her, making Eunseo blush. She stared at his red lips, remembering what he did to her with them.

Jihwan quickly realized that Eunseo must be thinking. His grin widened as he asked, “Huh? You were thinking about something naughty, weren’t you Miss Kang?”

“That’s not true!” Eunseo’s face turned bright red. She stood up and ran away in embarrassment.

Jihwan laughed loudly, and in a little while, he began playing again. Eunseo was hiding in his bedroom, and she closed her eyes and enjoyed his performance. He was playing the song “Let it snow”, and she wished that it would really snow for real.

Jihwan made Eunseo a late lunch. Thinking she might get sick of steak in the morning, he made a french style stew this time.

Jihwan was never interested in cooking or eating. The rice soup he made Eunseo last night was the first time he cooked in three years. It only involved boiling rice, but it meant a lot to him.

Because he didn’t have many ingredients at home, he ordered the groceries early in the morning.

Jihwan looked up the recipes online and tried following them. He used the wine he had at home, which was the best quality and most expensive wine. When he finished and tasted his stew, he was happy with it. It tasted pretty good.

Eunseo asked, “This tastes amazing. What did you put in it?”

Jihwan happily watched Eunseo eat. He felt so proud of himself, and he decided that he should learn how to cook better for Eunseo.

After she was done, Eunseo mumbled, “I made you do all the work while I just ate everything, Mr. Kwon. I feel embarrassed.”

“Then could you make me some coffee, Miss Kang? I’m going to rest for now,” Jihwan asked. It seemed that he remembered something.

“Of course. I can do that for you.”

While Eunseo made coffee, Jihwan quietly went to the living room.
