Chapter 69.
Jihwan quickly headed for Eunseo’s phone. He was still unhappy that Eunseo saved his contact under the name “President Kwon”. They were doing all kinds of sexy things with each other, so how could she save him as “President Kwon”?
She should have put “Jihwan”, shouldn’t she? Thinking he’ll change it himself, Jihwan picked the cell phone up when suddenly, it vibrated. Jihwan was so shocked that he almost dropped it.
-Seo Hyunwoo
Jihwan saw the caller ID and frowned. Eunseo didn’t even have Jihwan’s number, yet she had Seo Hyunwoo’s number?
And why was Seo Hyunwoo calling Eunseo on Christmas?! How dare he?!
After wondering what he should do for a few seconds, Jihwan answered the phone.
“Hello, this is Miss Kang’s cell phone.”
Through the phone, Jihwan could feel Seo Hyunwoo flinch. It was no wonder Hyunwoo was shocked. He probably never expected a man to answer Eunseo’s phone.
Jihwan continued, “If you called, you should say something, shouldn’t you? What is it that you want?”
Jihwan used his office voice on purpose. He hoped that Seo Hyunwoo recognized it. After a short hesitation, Hyunwoo mumbled,
-I’ll call back later.
If Hyunwoo didn’t know who this was, he would have asked to talk to Kang Eunseo. But the fact that he gave up so easily had to mean that he recognized Jihwan’s voice.
Perfect.
Jihwan smirked and erased the call from Eunseo’s phone. He didn’t feel guilty about it at all because it was only going to make it harder for Eunseo if she knew that Hyunwoo called. She was never going to be with Hyunwoo, so it was best she kept her distance from him.
Besides, Seo Hyunwoo was a terrible guy. Eunseo already rejected him once, so why was he calling her?
Just then, he heard Eunseo returning with coffee. He quickly put down her cell phone on the table and pretended nothing happened.
It was the same coffee he drank every day, but because Eunseo made it for him, it tasted so much better today. Sipping it quietly, Jihwan contemplated what he should cook for Eunseo for dinner.
“I think I should go home now, Mr. Kwon,” Eunseo suddenly announced.
Getting angry, Jihwan’s voice turned cold. “You’re actually going to go back to that place?”
“What am I supposed to do? That’s my home for now,” Eunseo replied calmly.
Jihwan wished he could ask her to live here with him. But he knew Eunseo or any other woman would agree to that. Yet he still didn’t want to let her return to that horrible place.
Eunseo seemed to have noticed that Jihwan was unhappy about this situation. She added, “I’m going to be leaving that place soon and finding my own house. I will be meeting with the rental agent and signing the lease contract.”
“Really?”
“Yes. I found a one room apartment near the office,” Eunseo explained.
Jihwan finally felt relieved. “Good. You should have left that place a long time ago. Why were you staying there all this time? You are not a cinderella, you know.”
Eunseo smiled a little without saying anything.
Jihwan asked, “I heard your father passed away when you were in college. What happened to your birth mother?”
“She passed away when I was three. I was so young that I don’t even remember her. I just know her by her photo.”
“Then when did your father remarry?” asked Jihwan.
“When I was in elementary school. But when I was in grade six, my father’s company went bankrupt and they got divorced.”
Jihwan was surprised by this. He placed the cup down on the table and asked, “Wait. Then you really aren’t related to those people at all?”
“Guess not.” Eunseo shrugged. She explained, “After my father lost his company, he went far away to work. There was no one to take care of me, so I ended up living with my stepmother. I’m sure it was hard for her to raise a child who wasn’t her own.”
Eunseo was calm, but Jihwan only got angrier. “So are you saying you lived like this since you were in elementary school?”
Eunseo nodded, and Jihwan couldn’t believe it. So Eunseo was neglected and abused by complete strangers since when she was a child? He felt so devastated.
“Come over here,” Jihwan asked, wanting to give her a hug. But Eunseo shook her head.
Eunseo insisted, “I’m fine. You’re pitying me, aren’t you Mr. Kwon?”
“I am saddened by what I just heard. Can’t I feel that?”
Eunseo’s voice turned serious as she replied, “There are plenty of people in the world who are in a much worse situation than me. There are people who are starving, and there are kids who are being physically abused. My stepmother at least didn’t hit me. And I know my father loved me very much. He called me often.”
The more she talked, the sadder Jihwan became. But Eunseo seemed very calm about the whole situation.
