Chapter 83
Jihwan asked, “So when will you be moving to your new place?”
“It’s already empty, so the owner said I could move in any time. So I decided to move this weekend,” Eunseo replied.
“Did you already hire a moving company?”
“I don’t have much, so I think I just need to get a small van,” Eunseo explained.
“Tell me what time you’re moving. I’ll help you,” Jihwan offered.
“I’m fine. I can do it by myself.”
Jihwan glanced at Eunseo’s foot and smirked. “Are you serious? With that foot?” “
“The doctor said I can take the bandage off in three days, so I’ll be fine by the weekend,” Eunseo refused firmly.
Jihwan stopped at the red light. His perfectly shaped lips sighed, and he said quietly, “I’ve been wondering… Miss Kang, do you hate spending any time with me?”
“Of course not, Mr. Kwon.”
“Then why do you refuse every time I offer to help? After all, we kiss and suck pretty much every single day.”
Eunseo blushed when he spoke so bluntly. Of course she didn’t hate spending time with him. They saw each other almost every day, but it wasn’t enough. She wanted to be with him every second of the day.
But Eunseo was worried that if she became too used to him, it would just make things harder for her later. She knew she was not making sense. Their strange relationship was going to end someday no matter what, so she should try to enjoy what she had now.
So Eunseo nodded and replied, “Alright. Thank you for your offer, and I accept. But after I move, I’ll buy you dinner to thank you.”
Jihwan finally brightened a little. He began driving again and murmured, “Good. That’s more like it.”
After a few seconds, he asked, “By the way, what was your landlord like?”
“She was very elegant and cool.” In a way, Eunseo thought Jiye reminded her of Jihwan. She supposed that maybe all rich people had the same vibe.
“She didn’t look mean or anything like that?” asked Jihwan. But he quickly realized that it was a strange question to ask, so he quickly explained, “I’m just worried that you might end up with a terrible landlord. Maybe someone who makes a fuss about the smallest things.”
Eunseo answered, “No, she wasn’t like that at all. As a matter of fact, she said I should feel comfortable using all the furniture and the appliances.”
Eunseo was confused to see that Jihwan looked a little disgruntled. He muttered, “…Why is she taking the credit for that?”
It was Jihwan who bought everything inside Eunseo’s new place.
Eunseo couldn’t hear him, so she asked, “Pardon? Did you say something?”
“No, it’s nothing. By the way, things are going to be tight for you from now on since you have to pay rent. You’ll need a raise,” Jihwan replied.
Eunseo found it funny that he was talking about her salary like this. It was the headquarters that paid her, but he was her boss after all.
Eunseo answered, “It’s fine. I’ve been paying my stepmother 700 dollars a month, so it will actually be cheaper to move out.”
“What?! She forced you to stay in that tiny ice box, and she charged you 700 dollars? And you probably didn’t eat a single meal a day at home, did you? So it’s better that you move out. Why didn’t you move sooner?” Jihwan yelled in outrage.
Eunseo felt a little upset that Jihwan was making her sound stupid. She obviously wanted to move out sooner, but she couldn’t afford to. Eunseo replied, “I didn’t have the deposit. I only began working not too long ago, remember? I tried to go to a cheaper place, but it wasn’t safe there. So I waited until I saved enough.”
Jihwan became quiet. The music continued quietly, and after some time, Jihwan asked, “So did you tell those people that you’re moving out?”
Eunseo was thankful that Jihwan didn’t call her stepmother and stepsister her “family”. She certainly didn’t consider them her family at all.
“Not yet,” Eunseo answered.
“When are you going to tell them?”
“Well, I’ll have to tell them before I leave, so I’ll do it soon.” Eunseo knew they hated her. She felt certain that her stepmother and stepsister would be only happy to get rid of her.
But Jihwan didn’t seem to believe this. He offered, “Tell me when you’re going to tell him. I’ll be there.”
“Why should you be there when I tell them, Mr. Kwon?”
“Because I don’t think those people will let you go easily.”
“That doesn’t make sense. I’m sure they’ll be overjoyed when I leave.”
Jihwan sniggered and replied, “You’ll be surprised. Just tell me when you’re going to notify them.”
“Well, I’m moving on Saturday, which is the day after tomorrow. So I was thinking about telling them tomorrow evening.”
