"Is anyone there?" He squeezed his legs together, held his breath, and called out again.
Still no response, a chill spread through Yiyun's heart. Looking around the small courtyard, he felt a sense of eerie dread. The company, hidden deep in the alley, the silent and empty courtyard, and the door that opened by itself.
Cold sweat immediately broke out on his back, and he moved his feet, wanting to step out of the door.
"Hmm? Is that a person?" A hand as cold as ice suddenly rested on his shoulder, the already sweat-soaked white shirt feeling the chill.
Combined with the cold voice in his ear.
"Ahh!" A scream of terror, he closed his eyes and turned to run out.
"What are you shouting for! Really, what are you doing here?" The cold hand grabbed Yiyun, and a voice roared.
Gathering his courage, he opened his eyes and turned around to see a girl with short hair, a cold and beautiful appearance.
"I... I... I'm here for the job interview." Just as he was recovering from the intense fear, he was immediately captivated by the girl's cold beauty.
"Jumping at every little thing, go forward. The room on the right side of the first floor, the one with the door covered in ivy, go there for the interview with Old Shan." The girl said coldly, pointing in the direction with a slender white finger.
"You... I..." Yiyun pointed at the hand still gripping his, stammering, his face turning red.
"You can't even speak properly." The girl's dark purple lips moved quickly, releasing Yiyun's hand.
The girl looked to be about seventeen or eighteen, wearing a short, deep black leather jacket, a tight, plain white T-shirt underneath, her full chest high and firm, a segment of tender, slender waist completely exposed, and a black leather skirt that was extremely short, revealing enticing black stockings on her slender legs.
"Aren't you here for the interview? Why are you just staring at me? Did my chest grow flowers?" The girl smiled coldly at the corner of her mouth.
"Really, I'm sorry, sorry." His eyes darted around, unable to help but glance at the girl's high chest, his Adam's apple moving, thinking to himself, "Big, and still firm! Ms. A would be instantly outclassed."
"Go quickly, sigh, did you bring your resume?" The girl's beautiful face with large, round eyes blinked continuously.
"I brought it." He quickly handed over the crumpled resume.
"What do you want it for? Go quickly, give it to Old Shan. Hey, why is your resume so crumpled? Really, but there are still some who bring self-recommendation letters written on bamboo slips for interviews." The girl muttered to herself, sneered, and quickly went up to the second floor of the small wooden building.
"Heaven has eyes! Heaven has eyes! Let me pass the interview!" Yiyun chased the girl's round, firm little buttocks with his eyes, watching her go up the wooden building, praying in his heart:
"Must pass the interview! Must pass the interview!" Lost in thought, he walked a few steps forward, turned right, and looked up to see a small door covered in ivy. On both sides of the door hung a couplet, the ivy covering everything except the couplet.
"Govern the world in the cave of the slanted moon and three stars, manage the universe in the mountain of the square inch of the spirit platform."
He read the couplet, understanding the meaning but not knowing what it was all about.
Raising his hand to knock on the door.
"Damn! Don't knock, don't you know pain? If you want to enter, just enter!" The strange voice from when he entered the door sounded again, and the door creaked open.
Following the strange voice, he hesitantly entered the room: "Automatic door?"
Facing him was an old-style desk made of purple sandalwood, behind which were rows of ancient wooden shelves, piled high with books. On a few of the shelves, there were even layers of bamboo slips and some stone tablets and bones.
An old bald man was hunched over the desk, writing with a brush. The old man had a silver beard, wore a small pair of round sunglasses, and dressed in old-fashioned clothes, looking like an ancient secretary.
"Ah, it seems the company's boss is a nostalgic old antique. Could this unconventional clerk be an antique salesman?" He pondered in his heart, and asked softly, "Are you Manager Shan? I'm here for the interview."
The bald old man raised one hand, making a gesture to stop him, while the other hand continued to circle and dot in a wide, yellowed book.
After about ten minutes, the old man stopped, slightly out of breath, and looked at Yiyun, saying apologetically, "I have many tasks, making you wait."
"No, no, Manager Shan, you're too polite, I'm here for the interview." He hurriedly handed over the crumpled resume.
"Call me Mr. Shan." The bald old man took the resume with both hands, and upon seeing its crumpled state, his old face showed obvious disappointment.
"Yiyun, right? Tell me, why do you want to work here?" Mr. Shan pressed Yiyun's resume with his hand, moving it slowly, and asked casually.
At this moment, Yiyun was determined to get the job, not for any other reason, but for the beauty he met when he entered the courtyard. After a brief thought, he put on a sincere expression, "Because I think I can get training here..."
Mr. Shan lowered his head, adjusted the small sunglasses on his nose, revealing two strange green eyes, and stared at Yiyun for a while. Suddenly, he approached Yiyun, looked him up and down, and said, "Slightly dark skin, messy hair, low bone structure." Then he grabbed Yiyun's hand and examined it carefully, "An ordinary person, sigh, an ordinary person." He waved his hand, "Young man, please, go back."
Yiyun felt a chill from Mr. Shan's gaze, muttering to himself, "This strange old man, why are his eyes green?" He felt as if an invisible force was pushing him to the door.
Hearing the green-eyed old man's words, it was clear he hadn't passed the interview. He cursed, "This strange old man, really direct! Not even a polite 'wait for our call.' This place is weird, I'm not even bothered to stay here and waste my talent!" He turned and walked out, dejected.
"Old Shan!" With a shout, a black figure with a faint fragrance darted into Mr. Shan's room.
Yiyun, who was about to leave, recognized the black figure as the girl he met when he entered. He moved closer to the door to eavesdrop, and a furious voice roared, "The sour scholar was bitten by a stinky snake and needs to recuperate in the mountain of books. I just heard from the stinky old man Xubai Ze that I have to take over his duties for a while?"
"Jianan, listen to me, Zhi Jun only needs a few months to recover, and when he returns..." The old man's voice had a hint of flattery.
"Blah, blah, blah! Don't give me all that! I'll quit if I have to! Xiao Zhong is trapped in the ghost city, and I've been a ghost officer, and I haven't been relieved yet!" The sweet voice was even more furious.
"Alright, alright, haven't we been posting recruitment ads on the internet recently? Jianan, please calm down."
"Blah, blah, blah! I give you three days. I won't take over the sour scholar's duties. If you push me, I'll go back to Kunlun Mountain!" The door "whoosh" opened, and the girl, with her eyes wide open, rushed out, colliding with Yiyun, who was eavesdropping outside the door.
"Ah!" A furry thing flashed past, and Yiyun felt as if he had been whipped by a whip, falling to the side.
The girl glanced at Yiyun, her eyes flashing red, and in her anger, she didn't care about Yiyun, who had fallen to the ground, and walked out of the courtyard.
"Ah! You're still here?" The bald old man leaned against the door, watching the girl leave, and let out a long sigh. Turning his head, he saw Yiyun on the ground, and the green light behind his sunglasses flashed.
Yiyun, holding his chest, got up, puzzled by what had just happened, and limped, preparing to leave.
"Come in for a moment." He heard a voice from behind.
Hesitantly, he turned around, and Mr. Shan was no longer at the door. Yiyun hesitated and entered the room again.
"Ah! Young man, are you afraid of monsters?" Mr. Shan, sitting behind the old desk, asked somewhat helplessly.
"Monsters?" Yiyun cursed in his heart, "This old man must be crazy, but it seems that few interviewers are normal." After a moment's thought, he couldn't think of a profound answer and laughed, "Compared to monsters, I'm more afraid of my landlord."
"Landlord? Is that a new type of monster?" The old man looked at Yiyun, shook his head, and handed him a yellowed scroll, "Young man, read this contract."
Yiyun took the scroll, surprised and somewhat amused, "This old man is really an antique." He carefully read the scroll and found the characters beautifully curved but completely unrecognizable.
"Read the contract carefully. If there are no problems, the Wubu of Jili Mansion wants to hire you as a monster affairs officer for three months." The bald old man adjusted his sunglasses.
"Ah! What! So I've passed the interview and entered a three-month probationary period? No initial interview, no second interview, no third interview, no PK interview?" Yiyun asked in surprise.
The bald old man gave Yiyun a strange look.
"No problem! No problem! The conditions in the contract are all suitable for me!" Yiyun, thinking about working with the girl, agreed excitedly, not even bothering to ask about the job, salary, or benefits.
"Then please sign your name on the contract." The bald old man handed him a brush, his eyes showing some approval, "I didn't expect this young man to understand the ancient script. People are not to be judged by their appearance. When Zhi Jun came for the interview, he spent three days looking through the classics to understand it."
Yiyun took the brush, picked up the scroll, smiled at the old man, and felt embarrassed about how to sign. Finally, he laid the scroll on the desk, raised the brush, and found a blank spot to sign.
The bald old man, seeing Yiyun's awkward grip on the brush, frowned. When he saw Yiyun about to sign, he grabbed his hand, "Hey! The scroll is upside down! Did you really understand the contract?"
Yiyun smiled awkwardly, "Of course I understood. In my previous company, contracts were signed upside down. Sorry."
"Hmm? Is that so?" The bald old man, puzzled by Yiyun's words, still reminded him, "The contract should be signed right-side up."
Yiyun turned the contract and, with the brush, wrote two wobbly characters.
"Yiyun" The bald old man read the signature on the scroll, his face showing disgust as he placed a cup of tea on the desk, and with a wave of his hand, a yellow talisman appeared in his thin hand, which he then set on fire.
"Magic trick?" Yiyun muttered in his heart.
"Drink this cup of tea. This is the 'Heart-Binding Tea' mentioned in the contract." The bald old man put the burning yellow talisman into the cup, and the flame immediately went out.
Yiyun, puzzled by this slightly strange scene, but thinking about the job he was about to get, and hearing that it was mentioned in the contract, which he had already signed, didn't want to ask and drank the tea in one gulp.
"Since you have signed the contract and drunk the 'Heart-Binding Tea,' go to the second floor and find Master Xubai Ze. He will inform you of your duties." The bald old man waved his hand, and the contract scroll quickly rolled up, and he returned to his desk, circling and dotting.
Seeing the scroll fly to the back shelf, Yiyun rubbed his eyes, slightly surprised.
"Go quickly to the second floor and find Master Xubai." The bald old man, without looking up, shouted.
"Yes." Yiyun quickly responded and hurried out of this strange place.
Standing in the courtyard again, Yiyun couldn't believe that he had obtained this job so easily and dazedly.
