Chapter 3

"Stay still!"

All consciousness returned, and Chen Hang groggily woke up to see a Western woman examining his pupils.

"Stay still!"

The woman, while observing Chen Hang with a flashlight, said, "Look at this light and follow it with your eyes."

The woman spoke in English, but it posed no obstacle to Chen Hang, clearly due to the language skills temporarily added by the system.

"OK." The woman extended three fingers and asked, "How many fingers am I holding up?"

Chen Hang glanced and replied, "Three."

"Very good!" The woman continued, "Tell me your name."

Chen Hang almost blurted out his name but suddenly remembered that he was in the movie world!

If he remembered correctly, at this point, he should be like the other survivors in the Hive, completely amnesic.

If he really said his name, there would likely be big trouble.

"I, I don't know..."

"He's fine." The woman turned her head and said, "He's amnesic, just like that person."

Chen Hang sat up and realized that almost all the characters from the Resident Evil plot were present.

Looking at these movie characters standing vividly before him, Chen Hang felt a sense of unreality, but the coldness from the carriage floor reminded him that this was real.

He really entered the movie!

Chen Hang couldn't help but exclaim in amazement!

A glance from the corner of his eye made Chen Hang feel that someone was staring at him intently. He couldn't help but look back and saw a blonde woman with blue eyes, wearing a red dress, looking sexy and beautiful.

Chen Hang, a fan of the Resident Evil series, was naturally very familiar with this woman's identity.

Alice!

The lead female character of all the Resident Evil series.

Remembering how Alice's beauty had amazed him when he first watched Resident Evil, he once considered her a goddess.

If Chen Hang still had his old mindset, he might have rushed forward to take a photo with her, but after the assassination incident, his mindset had changed significantly.

The train was still moving quickly, and the carriage was quiet. Chen Hang, however, was very nervous.

Because Alice was still looking at him.

Chen Hang didn't think he had the charm to make Alice fall in love with him at first sight.

He suspected that he might have exposed something.

After a while, the train finally stopped.

"Get off!"

The leader of the mercenaries, a bald black man named Matthew Addison, jumped off the train first, raised his gun, and cautiously observed the surroundings. The others followed one by one.

This place was like a warehouse, and the entrance to the Hive should be right in front.

A few mercenaries cautiously explored the path ahead, while Chen Hang and Alice followed behind.

At this moment, Chen Hang finally noticed something was wrong: a key character was missing.

The antagonist "Spencer" — the commercial spy who came to steal the virus from the Hive — was nowhere to be seen.

A vague sense of foreboding crept into his mind.

Chen Hang raised his hands, and as expected, there was a ring on his left ring finger.

Looking at his clothes, they weren't his cheap casual outfit but a black leather jacket and brown pants...

Damn it!

Chen Hang couldn't help but curse in his heart.

The damn system had turned him into the big villain.

He remembered that this guy's end was very tragic!

Not only was he bitten to death by a Licker, but after turning into a zombie, he was decapitated by Alice with an axe.

No wonder Alice had been staring at him; it was clear that Alice had recovered some of her memories about him.

No wonder the system had issued a task to "gain Alice's favor"; if things developed normally, opposing the heroine would mean a very painful death.

Chen Hang's face was dark and gloomy as he silently followed the group.

Everyone walked up the platform, and soon, a closed steel door blocked their way at the entrance to the laboratory. The door had a set of special symbols and a bacteria logo, indicating that the laboratory was dangerous and owned by a company.

"Open that door."

Chen Hang and a few others closely followed the mercenaries.

When they reached the door, Alice suddenly asked the black man Matthew Addison, "Listen, I want to know who you are and what's happening here?"

Matthew Addison turned to look at her and waved to the other mercenaries, who quickly took out some machinery and began to hack the door.

He continued to explain to the beautiful lead character, "We are employed by the same boss, and we all work for the Umbrella Corporation. The building above us is the emergency entrance to the Hive, and you are the security guards protecting the entrance."

Upon hearing this, Alice took off a wedding ring from her finger and asked, "What is this?"

Matthew Addison replied, "Your marriage is fake, just a cover, and it's also a symbol of your protection of the Hive."

"What is the Hive?"

Matthew Addison turned to another mercenary and said, "Show them."

The man nodded and started typing on a computer keyboard. Soon, some images appeared on his laptop.

"This is the entrance to the Hive... The Hive is deep beneath Raccoon City. This is the building where we found you. We took the underground train here, which brought us to the entrance of the Hive, where we are now standing."

The images on the screen kept changing, and finally, a building resembling a beehive appeared on the computer screen.

"This is the Hive, a secret research facility deep underground, owned and supervised by the Umbrella Corporation. There are 500 scientists and other staff inside, conducting confidential research according to the company's needs. These secrets are crucial to the company. This is where we are now, as shown by the thermal sensors."

Matthew Addison continued explaining, and the screen indeed showed their location on the platform at the top of the Hive.

To act more convincingly, Chen Hang asked, "Why can't I remember anything?"

In the movie, this question seemed to be asked by Spencer.

Matthew Addison replied, "The Hive has its own defense mechanisms controlled by the central computer. When the Hive is attacked or an accident occurs, the central computer releases a neurotoxic gas that causes unconsciousness for about four hours. Upon waking, there are various side effects, including severe amnesia."

"How long will the amnesia last?"

"It depends on your physical condition, from one hour to one day, or even a week."

A young man, not a mercenary and with his hands tied, suddenly asked, "Do you mean the Hive has been attacked?"

Matthew Addison looked at him and said, "...It might be even more complicated."

Chen Hang recognized this young man; he was Matt, one of the main characters, a non-corporate person who came to find his sister. In the end, he would be captured by the Umbrella Corporation and turned into the monster "Nemesis," appearing in Resident Evil 2.

At this moment, a voice came from the platform above the door. A brave-looking female mercenary said, "Sir, the door is open, we can enter now."

The door to the Hive entrance opened, and inside was pitch black, almost nothing visible.

Matthew Addison shouted to a mercenary beside him, "Jed."

Jed, the mercenary, received the order, put on a night vision device, and cautiously walked in.

Everyone was a bit nervous, but only Chen Hang knew that the central computer had not been shut down yet, and the zombies and other monsters had not been released, so there was no danger.

Soon, Jed's voice came from the darkness, "It's safe!"

Then the lights were turned on, and the room gradually brightened. The windows on the walls revealed the scenery of the city's skyscrapers, with plenty of sunlight and a clear blue sky, accompanied by the bustling sounds of a prosperous city.

"The toxic components have dissipated."

The female medic, holding a detector, confirmed the safety, and everyone relaxed.

Matt came to the window, looking at the computer-simulated urban scenery, and joked, "It seems working underground isn't bad."

However, everyone was preoccupied with their own thoughts, and no one responded to him.

Chen Hang secretly glanced at Alice, feeling very troubled.

From birth to now, if he didn't count masturbation, he was indeed still a virgin. He had no experience in how to gain a woman's favor.

On the other side, Matthew Addison and his companion Jed had opened the elevator door, but it was pitch black inside. Jed threw a flare into the elevator, and as the light gradually faded, they saw that the elevator had fallen to the bottom, its cables broken.

Jed turned back and said, "Sir, it looks like we have to take the stairs."

Everyone followed the mercenaries down the stairs.

Chen Hang stayed close to Alice, determined to gain her favor before her memory fully returned.

Even if Chen Hang couldn't gain Alice's favor and they parted ways as in the movie, he wouldn't necessarily die, given his familiarity with the plot.

However, completing Task 1 would earn him 1500 evolution points, while failing would cost him 1000 points, a difference of 2500 points. He had to do his best to succeed.

As they approached the bottom of the building, a mercenary suddenly shouted, "Sir, Red Queen has locked onto us, she knows we're here."

Alice asked curiously, "Who is Red Queen?"

"The top artificial intelligence system," Matthew Addison explained as they walked. "She controls the entire Hive and is the central main computer."

The mercenaries had already descended the stairs, and some isolated research rooms appeared on both sides of the corridor.

These rooms were filled with yellowish water, and many researchers' bodies floated in it, looking very terrifying.

Seeing these bodies, Chen Hang's scalp tingled. Only he knew that these bodies had been infected with the T-virus and would come back to life and eat people once the central computer was shut down.

"This will delay our actions," one of the mercenaries said. "To reach Red Queen, we must pass through these laboratories, which are now flooded. I don't think we can enter them."

Matthew Addison replied, "Reyn, Jed, go check how bad the flooding is."

The brave-looking female mercenary, named Reyn, and another mercenary, Jed, both held their guns and walked deeper into the corridor.

Matthew Addison looked at the flooded research facility, "Kaplan, find another passage."

After Matthew Addison assigned the tasks, one of the main characters, Matt, couldn't help but ask, "What exactly happened here?"

Matthew Addison hesitated for a moment and then revealed the truth.

"About five hours ago, Red Queen sealed the entire Hive and began killing people using the internal defense system, releasing toxic gas, cutting off the elevators, and shutting down the research rooms, just like these. She killed everyone in this experimental area."

He paused and continued, "When the company realized something was wrong, our team was dispatched to shut her down. That's why we're here."

Everyone was shocked. Alice asked in a low voice, "Why did she do this?"

Matthew Addison shook his head, "We don't know. It could be due to external influence, like a computer virus... or it could be internal sabotage. This is all..."

Before Matthew Addison could finish, a panicked cry interrupted him.
