Ch30 - Partial

7 min read1,826 words

Since Xie Yan wanted to leave, he couldn’t force him to stay. No matter how reluctant he was, Ji Qinghuai could only bury it in his heart. After the two of them ate breakfast, Xie Yan pulled his suitcase and prepared to leave.

He walked to the door first but didn’t rush to open it. “Ji Qinghuai.”

Ji Qinghuai, who was about to follow, paused, “En?”

Xie Yan had his back turned to Ji Qinghuai and didn’t look back. After a few seconds, he spoke again, “Mr Ji is a highly respected person with a righteous heart and he is also a role model for our generation. The only son at his knees is you. You have been indulged and pampered since young but you should see the virtuous and think about others.”

The ‘Mr Ji’ was referring to his father, Ji Xianzhi.

“Be responsible with your status. Everything you do involves the Ji family, so you should always think twice before doing anything.” Xie Yan continued, “You come from a good background and are sheltered by your elders. Don’t make mistakes on impulse and ruin your future. ”

His main objective was to determine whether Ji Qinghuai was an enemy or a friend. Ji Qinghuai’s sudden appearance when he captured Zuo Lan that night had always bothered him.

On the other hand, Ji Qinghuai wasn’t even aware that he had been tied up with a criminal on the run and that his intentions had been completely misinterpreted.

“You… also think I’m not ambitious?” Ji Qinghuai cautiously asked but without waiting for the other to answer, he hurriedly answered his own question, “Then… I’ll work harder but…”

With a sheepish face, he said, “To catch up to my father… it’s a little difficult.”

Xie Yan also understood this. Although Ji Xianzhi and Ji Qinghuai were father and son, their personalities were quite different. If someone said that Ji Qinghuai was not motivated, Xie Yan wouldn’t necessarily think so. Ji Qinghuai was a bit stubborn, but the most fundamental reason was their different experiences.

The world that Ji Qinghuai saw now had been integrated after several years of war and chaos. Today’s calm and peace was the result of countless people betting on their lives and Ji Xianzhi was one of them.

The current world was not as stable as it seemed. It was just that he was unwilling to participate in the affairs of the four districts and many things were inevitably out of reach.

Ji Xianzhi experienced times of tribulation while Ji Qinghuai lived a comfortable and free life. Not to mention, Ji Qinghuai’s character was already direct. If they used Ji Xianzhi as a standard for Ji Qinghuai, how was it not a difficulty for him?

It was easy for Xie Yan to see that Ji Xianzhi loved his son very much. If not, he would have been forced to take charge of the four districts instead of being allowed to do what he wanted. In a way, this was also a kind of protection.

Xie Yan only said, “It’s good to have a clear conscience.”

Turning his head sideways, he smiled lightly at Ji Qinghuai, who was still standing dumbfounded, “Let’s go.”

Compared to their first meeting, Xie Yan’s hostility towards Ji Qinghuai had almost disappeared. The words he spoke just now was to remind Ji Qinghuai that if he really made a mistake, he would understand what he meant and could get out in time.

If it was just a misunderstanding, there was nothing out of the ordinary about the words he spoke. It would have been only a lesson for the heartless young master.

People weren't plants and they had feelings. When you are willing to take a step back for a person, this is called partiality.

Xie Yan remembered what his Master had once said. He thought it was better to be partial than to see Ji Qinghuai on the road of no return in the future. This was as far as he could go.

Xie Yan had a very important meeting in the afternoon, and now he had to rush to the airport. Originally, Ji Qinghuai wanted to send him off but was refused by Xie Yan.

As he watched the taxi drive away, Ji Qinghuai’s mind remained blank for a long time. Xie Yan’s words from just now were still ringing in his ears and he understood Xie Yan’s good intentions but why did he suddenly say this?

Ji Qinghuai still felt that he was being disdained by Xie Yan. Thinking about it, even his old father scorned him all day for not being serious, let alone Xie Yan.

Aiiii…

When Xie Yan left, Ji Qinghuai would also be busy with his affairs. Today, Wen Jing was going to audition for the female lead in the group and Huang Minghai wanted the two of them to watch together, so he had to rush there.

In the half-month since the filming commenced, their progress was delayed one after another. Now the heroine had also changed. Many of the previously filmed scenes had to be scrapped and re-filmed. However, this wasn’t the biggest problem at present. Now, the most important thing was to find a suitable female lead as soon as possible.

Ji Qinghuai was not sure if Wen Jing could succeed in her audition. In fact, he was not very familiar with Wen Jing and had never seen her performance. It’s just that Lu Fangjie wanted to help her win an opportunity and he was just assisting from the side. Whether she could satisfy the director or not depended on her strength.

When Ji Qinghuai arrived at the set, Wen Jing and Lu Fangjie were in a discussion. Lu Fangjie was afraid that Wen Jing would be too nervous and make a mistake so he looked for her to practise together. It was easier to enter the character’s shoes with someone than to perform with the air.

Ji Qinghuai sat down by Huang Minghai’s side who glanced at the time and announced, “Let’s start.”

Lu Fangjie and Wen Jing stood up. By this time, Wen Jing was already starting to get nervous. When Lu Fangjie saw this, he encouraged her, “Jiayou, you can do it.”

Wen Jing took a deep breath, ” En. ”

The two walked to the open space and looked at each other. In just a second. Lu Fangjie got into character and with a hint of teasing in his eyes, he spoke, “Little beauty, isn’t it inappropriate to be proactive in broad daylight?”

Seeing Lu Fangjie quickly get into character, Wen Jing followed suit and glared at him, “Scoundrel, you’re so shameless! ”

With just this sentence, Wen Jing’s gentleness and cowardice immediately disappeared, replaced by the young woman’s innocence and flexibility.

Huang Minghai’s eyes lit up.

“I’m a scoundrel?” Lu Fangjie laughed, “What an unreasonable girl.”

Wen Jing snorted, “I’m not being unreasonable. If you dare to bully me, I’ll tell my father. Your old man will clean you up well!”

“Your father?” Lu Fangjie was intrigued, “May I ask who your father is?”

“My father is famous in the Jianghu…”

As the scene continued, Wen Jing maintained her good condition and Ji Qinghuai turned to the side to see Huang Minghai with a rather satisfied expression on his face.

Ji Qinghuai knew that Wen Jing’s performance had passed the test, but it was unclear whether she would be selected in the end.

Why was it so difficult for newcomers to mix in the entertainment industry for the first time? In the end, it was because the rookies had no fan base and no one was willing to give them resources, making it difficult for them to make a name for themselves. Lu Fangjie knew this and that was why he was helping Wen Jing fight for the opportunity.

From Huang Minghai’s perspective, he naturally had many concerns as the director.

Martial arts-themed movies were inherently cold. Finding well-known actors to star in the film would at least garner some heat at the beginning but the main focus was the quality of the work. If new actors were used, the film may flop when it was released.

Even if it is a good work, without exposure, many won’t be aware that such a movie existed, much less its quality.

But after watching Wen Jing’s performance, Huang Minghai felt that he could give Wen Jing a chance. In terms of popularity, Ji Qinghuai and Lu Fangjie were carrying it anyway. Whether the movie was popular or not depended on Heaven’s will.

Lu Fangjie and Wen Jing looked at the director and waited nervously for feedback. Ji Qinghuai turned his head to look at Huang Minghai and joked, “Do you want me to pull in a film empress? ”

Huang Minghai: “…”

He glared at Ji Qinghuai, then turned to Wen Jing and said, “You can look through the contract later. If you want, you can familiarize yourself with the script and start shooting as soon as possible. ”

Wen Jing covered her mouth in surprise and hurriedly said, “Thank you, Director.”

Lu Fangjie was also happy for her and gave Ji Qinghuai a grateful look.

Ji Qinghuai smiled back.

With the selection of the heroine, Huang Minghai was also relieved and resumed their afternoon shooting. Since Wen Jing needed some time to familiarise herself with the script, they could only shoot the others’ scenes first.

In the evening after work, Ji Qinghuai casually ate dinner nearby before returning to the hotel. He opened the door and turned on the lights, revealing an extraordinarily quiet room.

He sighed helplessly.

Xie Yan had stayed here for a few days. Whether in the crew or the hotel, Ji Qinghuai could see him all the time. Now that the person was gone, he felt a little uncomfortable.

Ji Qinghuai took a shower and lay on the bed while staring at the ceiling and began to wonder. He remembered what Xie Yan had said in the morning.

It is more important to see the virtuous.

He was a little confused.

For Xie Yan to say this, was it because he had done too many misdeeds over the years? But he didn’t actually do anything to be a jerk. He only fought a bit…

Ji Qinghuai pouted.

Xie Yan probably thought he was too crude. After all, his Mr Xie was refined and cold, and he never quarrelled with others. He would simply pretend the other didn’t exist. Ji Qinghuai thought so and let out a laugh.

That’s not such a good temper, is it? But when compared with others, it was much more pleasing.

Ji Qinghuai rolled over and looked at the empty spot beside him in a daze.

If you want to see Xie Yan again, you can only wait for the film to be finished.
