Ch29 - Optimistic

After Su Yuhe’s reminder, Ji Qinghuai’s mood became very complicated.
Looking back on the past few days together, it turns out that the two of them weren’t on the same page at all. Luckily, he hadn’t mentioned what happened before, or he would have blown himself up.
The issue of funding had been resolved and there was no need to be worried about any shortage. Originally, the director didn’t want to do this and thought that since the role had already been set, he could continue letting Wang Jiajia act as the heroine as long as she didn’t throw a tantrum and affect shooting again.
When he first heard Huang Minghai’s decision, Ji Qinghuai was upset. That Wang Jiajia relied on her family’s wealth to act in an arrogant and domineering manner all day long. She even dared to blatantly threaten him. Now that things have come to light, everyone can see how unhappy Ji Qinghuai is. If they met each other every day, things would become even more tricky.
Huang Minghai knew that Ji Qinghuai was dissatisfied but he had to prioritise the film, and he could only try to persuade him. Ji Qinghuai was reluctant but he also understood that the director’s team had their purpose for this. In the end, the two agreed that as long as Wang Jiajia didn’t stir up any trouble, she could keep her role. However, that didn’t mean he could live in peace with Wang Jiajia either.
As a result, Wang Jiajia didn’t appreciate their goodwill at all and bluntly declared that she would not act in the film. She immediately packed her things and left the hotel, leaving her assistant, Wen Jing, jobless.
The aggrieved Wen Jing cried for a long time, but Lu Fangjie accidentally found her and comforted her. Lu Fangjie felt that there was something wrong with Wang Jiajia. It was obviously her problem but why did she have to take it out on the little girl?
On second thought, Lu Fangjie felt that Wen Jing being fired was a good thing. With her timid and reserved character, it was already good enough that she hadn’t been bullied to death after following Wang Jiajia.
It’s just that when Wang Jiajia left, Huang Minghai had another problem on his hands. He went back to the hotel to find Ji Qinghuai and Lu Fangjie and asked them, “Is there any suitable actress you know for the movie? Since Wang Jiajia left, I can’t find a suitable candidate in a short time.”
Lu Fangjie wanted to speak but closed his mouth again.
Ji Qinghuai saw through Lu Fangjie’s thoughts at a glance and said, “Who says there isn’t a suitable one? There’s one right here.”
Huang Minghai wondered out aloud, “Who?”
Ji Qinghuai leaned back on the chair and looked sideways at Lu Fangjie, “Wen Jing.”
Lu Fangjie was stunned for a moment before he echoed after Ji Qinghuai. “Yes, I also think Wen Jing is quite appropriate for the role.”
“This…” Huang Minghai’s impression of Wen Jing was that she was someone who had been bullied by Wang Jiajia. Although she was asked to shoot a scene for Wang Jiajia before, being a stand-in and making a real appearance were two different things. Not to mention the heroine, Huang Minghai still wanted to find someone who could support the movie.
“She can.” Seeing that Huang Minghai seemed to think otherwise, Lu Fangjie hurriedly assured, “I asked her in detail last time, she did learn acting, but she couldn’t get a chance after graduation, so she started working as an assistant for actors.”
“So that’s the case.” Huang Minghai understood Lu Fangjie’s words, but he was still a little hesitant, “Can Wen Jing do it?”
“How about you let her try a few scenes tomorrow.” Ji Qinghuai suggested seeing his hesitation. “It’s not bad to find someone like her now. If you want an experienced actor, I can pull in another film empress for you, but can you sign her?”
Huang Minghai was so speechless that he could only stare at Ji Qinghuai. At the side, Lu Fangjie lowered his head and smirked.
Huang Minghai thought for a while. Since both Ji Qinghuai and Lu Fangjie recommended Wen Jing, then he might as well give her a chance.
“All right, let her try tomorrow.”
The matter was thus tentatively settled. After the discussion, Ji Qinghuai and Lu Fangjie went back to their rooms. Ji Qinghuai stood still at the door, raised his hand and knocked on the door. Soon after, the door opened from the inside.
It was Xie Yan.
Originally, Xie Yan should have booked a room for himself last night, but Ji Qinghuai was in a bad mood because of Wang Jiajia’s affairs and concentrated on his discussion with Su Yuhe about the investment. Xie Yan wanted to speak up but felt out of place, so he stayed with Ji Qinghuai again. However, he had no plans to change rooms tonight.
Ji Qinghuai had been a bit busy today and had no time to talk to him. At most, they had exchanged a few words. Now that no one was around, Ji Qinghuai couldn’t help but feel a little nervous when he thought of Su Yuhe’s words.
This time, Ji Qinghuai could feel that the relationship between the two was much closer than before. This was why Ji Qinghuai dared to be presumptuous from time to time. He thought it was because Xie Yan finally found out they had been together day and night but today, he finally straightened out his wrong idea.
Xie Yan was definitely suspicious of him. That was why he would ask Su Yuhe about his original form but Xie Yan couldn’t determine if he’s the cat. So what did Xie Yan think about him and their relationship these past few days?
Ji Qinghuai pretended to be playing with his mobile phone but couldn’t help but glance at Xie Yan. At this moment, Xie Yan was packing his suitcase and Ji Qinghuai watched him pack the folded clothes neatly, zip up the suitcase and push it against the wall. He lowered his head.
On second thought, maybe he was overthinking it. However, with Xie Yan’s personality, if he had thought of Ji Qinghuai as a protégé, he would have beaten him up a long time ago, so why would he share a room with him?
Xie Yan was a person whose joy and anger did not show colour. It was truly difficult to see something from his face. Ji Qinghuai felt that he should be more optimistic. Perhaps from Xie Yan’s point of view, he was a good person?
“Ji Qinghuai.” As he was pondering, Xie Yan called out his name.
He raised his head, “Huh?”
“I have to leave tomorrow.”
Xie Yan announced his departure too suddenly and Ji Qinghuai took half a beat before reacting, “You don’t want to stay for a few more days?”
“I’ve troubled you for long enough, I should take my leave.”
Ji Qinghuai was a little anxious, “It’s not a bother at all, you can stay for as long as you want.” He didn’t try to hide his reluctance to see Xie Yan go. He almost ended up saying “I don’t want you to go” directly.
If he didn’t find out the truth from Su Yuhe today, Ji Qinghuai would say this directly to Xie Yan, but now, he dared not.
With such a straightforward gesture, Xie Yan naturally understood and his heart was suddenly moved.
It was as if a feather had swept lightly across the heartstrings, light and weak, yet clearly perceptible. But he still declined, “I still have something to deal with.”
Ji Qinghuai thought about it too. Xie Yan still had his job to attend to, so he couldn’t stay here for a long time. Since people took the time to visit him, he had even less reason to forcibly make them stay.
He was reluctant, but he could only hide it in his heart. He had been in a good mood tonight but he was now wilting.
The two lay down on the bed and talked for a while, but Ji Qinghuai was scared of delaying Xie Yan’s rest so he shut up after a while. The room gradually calmed down, but Ji Qinghuai didn’t want to sleep. It was past midnight when he finally couldn’t endure his drowsiness and fell asleep.
In his sleep, Ji Qinghuai kicked off the quilt on his body, turned over and suddenly grabbed Xie Yan’s hand. Xie Yan opened his eyes and listened to Ji Qinghuai’s vague mumbling, “Can you not leave?”
Even in his sleep, Ji Qinghuai still didn’t forget that he was going to leave.
Xie Yan stretched out his hand to help cover Ji Qinghuai with the quilt, letting Ji Qinghuai hold his hand to sleep.
That’s…kinda cute *cries*
