Ch64 - Final Chapter
9 min read2,244 words
Qin Lang hurriedly supported Xie Yan and raised his eyes to see the glowing circle split into two as it whirled. The boundary opened and Xie Yan wiped off the blood on his lips with his fingers and said to Qin Lang, “This entrance can only last for ten minutes at most. You have to pay close attention to the time, and be more careful when you’re inside.”
Qin Lang nodded his head and immediately turned into a black cat, dashing into the boundary.
The street returned to silence, the cold and eerie wind faded and a maple leaf fell from the tree and landed gently at Xie Yan’s feet.
Suddenly, he spun around and threw out a palm strike mercilessly, cutting the incoming maple leaves behind him in half.
Suddenly, a ray of light flashed at Xie Yan’s feet, immediately activating a formation that trapped him. At the same time, a figure swept past Xie Yan and disappeared into the boundary.
Oh no.
Xie Yan broke the restriction trapping him and tried to chase after the person but was instead repelled by a force when he entered the boundary. Xie Yan braced himself on the ground with one hand and landed steadily with a spin.
At this moment, the person who attacked Xie Yan was hurrying through the silent street. The world in front of him was grey and shrouded in mist and the dead silence was even more dreary.
However, just as the man was about to reach the end of the street, he suddenly halted.
There in the fog stood a straight figure with his hands behind his back. His forehead hair gently fluttered in the wind and his crimson eyes were particularly striking, particularly eerie in the dark mist.
Shen Xie looked at the person in front of him and spoke lightly, “For the sake of you helping them, I will just pretend that nothing happened today.”
“No, I just want an answer.” The man begged anxiously.
“No one here can give you answers.”
When the man was about to speak again, a gust of wind suddenly blew up, bringing along a strong burst of killing intent.
“Get out yourself or I’ll send you out,” Shen Xie declared coldly.
The powerful pressure was terrifying. As long as one dared to defy it, they would be dead in the next second.
The man clenched his fists, unwilling to return empty-handed, but…
But at the moment, he had no choice.
After a moment, the man let go of his clenched hand, stepped back, turned and left.
On Maple Leaf Street, Xie Yan concentrated on guarding the barrier. He saw the man who broke in earlier come out but ignored him. He was more worried about Qin Lang. The time was almost up.
“Meow…” With a cat’s cry, the figure of the little black cat jumped out of the boundary, and immediately, the entrance behind it shut in advance and returned to its original state.
The little black cat glanced back.
Xie Yan had felt a strong sense of oppression just now, there were still people inside.
Yet he didn’t think about what his Master was doing inside. He asked Qin Lang, “Did you get it?”
The little black cat nodded.
Hope finally reignited in Xie Yan’s heart and he hurried home with Qin Lang to give the bottle containing Ye An’s blood to Xu Luo.
Three days later, Ji Qinghuai took the medicine given by Xu Luo and went home with Xie Yan. Qin Lang and Ye An also stopped their work and went home to accompany Ji Qinghuai. Xu Luo told them that although the antidote was prepared, he had been poisoned for too long and he only had a fifty percent chance of success. The outcome could only be left to fate.
After dinner, Ji Qinghuai nested in Xie Yan’s arms and chatted about random things. The topic was always irrelevant. In fact, Ji Qinghuai didn’t know what he wanted to say, he could only think of something to say.
Gradually, Ji Qinghuai felt a little sleepy, so he cast his eyes on the glass to the side.
Inside was the antidote that determined his life and death.
“Yanyan, do you think we have an afterlife?” Ji Qinghuai asked calmly.
“No.” Xie Yan answered very decisively.
Ji Qinghuai looked up at him and asked, “Why?”
“Because…I don’t want to.” Xie Yan’s voice was a little hoarse.
“I don’t want to either.” Ji Qinghuai hugged Xie Yan. “You promised that you would love me well. I remember it, you can’t be so cheap and renege on your promise.”
“Alright.” Xie Yan raised his hand to stroke Ji Qinghuai’s face, “So you have to wake up so that I can’t default on my debt.”
“We’ll see this Young Master’s mood first.” Ji Qinghuai said so, but he hugged Xie Yan reluctantly, raised his head and kissed him.
In the past, their kisses were always lingering and passionate, with the throbbing and burning of youth, but now, Ji Qinghuai didn’t want to think about anything. He only wanted to kiss Xie Yan one more time. After all, this parting may become their last goodbye forever.
Both of them were greedy for more time but Ji Qinghuai’s consciousness had already begun to blur. If they let him sleep like this, he may not be able to wake up again. Ji Qinghuai’s heart was resolute and he picked up the cup on the table and drained the contents.
With a “bang”, the glass fell from Ji Qinghuai’s hand and fell to the ground, shattering into pieces. Ji Qinghuai leaned into Xie Yan’s arms again and slowly closed his eyes.
He fell asleep in January.
The summer sun gradually got hotter. In the twinkling of an eye, Xie Yan and Ji Qinghuai had known each other for two years. The original petulant and lively little wild cat was now sleeping every day, immersed in a long dream.
A feather quietly approached the kitten, sweeping lightly across the tip of its nose.
The kitten didn’t respond.
After another sweep, the kitten still didn’t respond.
Ye An knew that this method was no good. He gave up and said softly to the kitten, “Brother, me and Qin Lang’s movie is about to be released. I have the tickets ready, so please wake up so we can go watch it together.”
The kitten didn’t seem to hear him, or perhaps didn’t want to pay him any attention and continued to sleep without moving.
Ye An could only sigh in dismay.
During this month, they had utilised various methods to tease Ji Qinghuai every day, hoping that he would wake up soon, but the result was the same every time. No matter what they did, Ji Qinghuai didn’t care and continued sleeping.
Qin Lang held Ye An’s hand. “Don’t worry, he will wake up.”
But these words were more to comfort himself. They all knew that his breath was becoming weaker day by day. If he didn’t wake up soon…
Xie Yan stood by the door of the room, not saying a word.
Since then, Xie Yan had never left the house. Every day, he would cook all kinds of food together with Qin Xiaorou to tempt the foodie Ji Qinghuai. He hoped that the little gluttonous kitten would wake up hungry.
But Heaven didn’t seem to want to favour him. After dozens of days and nights, the kitten seemed to be unable to hold on. Its breath was so weak that it was practically unnoticeable.
Xie Yan stretched out his hand to smoothen the kitten’s fur. “I remember that you don’t like other people touching your fur the most. When I shaved you bald before, you were so upset and deliberately made trouble. Huaihuai, if you don’t wake up, I’ll shave you bald again and make you…”
A clear droplet fell on the kitten’s face.
These days, Xie Yan hadn’t gotten a good sleep. His appearance was haggard and maybe because he had been too hard on himself, he was a little tired. He lay beside the kitten and fell asleep without knowing it.
In a daze, Xie Yan felt that there was someone beside him. He jerked awake, but the room was quiet and no one had entered.
Before he could calm his heart, he raised his eyes and realised the cat on the bed was gone!
Xie Yan’s heart stilled abruptly for a moment before he scrambled to get up and look around the room. Seeing the empty room, he ran out to look for it and searched both floors, but couldn’t find a trace of the silver gradient kitten.
Xie Yan was extremely anxious.
Qin Xiaorou wasn’t at home today. He was the only one at home, how could Ji Qinghuai suddenly disappear?
He ran into the courtyard, his heart petrified. In a moment of carelessness, it would be bad if someone with ill intentions took away the kitten.
Xie Yan couldn’t help but blame himself, blame himself for being too careless. How could he fall asleep at this time and how could he make such a mistake?!
Xie Yan punched the wall in regret. He lowered his head. His long hair covered his worn-out face and his body could not stop trembling. What indifferent and reserved? Everything was shattered by the indescribable despair and heartache.
No matter how much it was tempered over the years, the heart still retains its warmth, unable to transform into a real stone.
Xie Yan clenched his hand tightly by his side, his fingertips turning white.
“Ji Qinghuai, if you don’t come out again, I…I’ll divorce you!”
Just as Xie Yan finished speaking, a laugh echoed in his ear.
“Yo, are you speaking from your heart?”
The voice was as familiar as ever.
Xie Yan swiftly turned his head and saw Ji Qinghuai leaning under the eaves and smiling at him. He was holding a banana in his hand, half of which he had already eaten.
Ji Qinghuai took a bite of the banana while saying, “I just went to get a banana, but you actually want to divorce me. Okay, I’m going, leaving right now.”
Xie Yan lifted his foot and walked toward Ji Qinghuai. “Whoever dares to leave me, I’ll dismantle the Civil Affairs Bureau.”
“You’re so fierce.” Ji Qinghuai threw away the banana peel in his hand and hugged him with open arms. “If you’re this fierce, I’ll be scared. You have to assure me that what you said before counts.”
“It counts.”
“I will love you well in the future and I will definitely not bully you.”
The person in his arms had his familiar scent, and his voice was also as coquettish as ever, evoking countless memories. The heart that went through dozens of days of suffering and ups and downs finally settled down in the familiar breath of the person in his arms.
It wasn’t a dream, his Huaihuai finally woke up…
Xie Yan hugged Ji Qinghuai tightly. He would never let go of him in this life.
“I love you.”
This was the most beautiful view on this journey of a lifetime.
